Monsanto Bayer orderd to pay 2 billion dollars in Glyphosate cancer trial | DW News

German pharmaceutical giant Bayer has lost another lawsuit related to the weed-killer Roundup, produced by recently acquired Monsanto. Bayer will have to pay two billion dollars in fines and millions in punitive damages to the plaintiffs, an elderly couple from California. Bayer disputes that Roundup was the cause of the couples' cancer and that both had a long history of illness. The company plans to appeal the verdict. It's the third consecutive verdict against Bayer since its 63 billion dollar acquisition of Monsanto. Bayer is currently facing another 13,400 claims.

Organic farmers uses tons of chemicals, many of them the same or arguably actually worse then non-organic they just get them from marginal different 'natural' sources. It's almost like you can only really produce viable levels of output for the current population with the use of modern agriculture techniques including aggro-chemical usage... Chemophobes are such total morons really.

Organic farming don't use harmful chemicals, it's eco friendly and safe for consumption. Natural pesticides are okay.

I do not know the answer to your question, but all of us can buy toxic chemicals at stores. My concern is that this Bayer Monsanto may be hiding information. At least Bolivia had the courage to tell the DEA of my country to go away.

Ryan Smith glyphosate was just proven to be non carcinogenic recently and it is less toxic than a lot of things we use everyday. People are just scared of things they don’t know and they believe the lies the media tells them

Huge mistake on part of Bayer to buy this hot potato Monsanto! But, there IS some responsibility on part of users here.....I had a neighbor who was over-spraying weeds in immediate contact with his edible plants.....how dumb is that, but its a common practice. But in our lawsuit-happy society, its always someone else's fault. Bayer should have realized this!

How couldn't they see that coming ^^. Buying Monsanto with all the controvorsy around Glyphosat was risky at best to start with. Now Bayer ain't saints either, so this maybe Karma for other things, still those who originally owned this company are off the hook and that seems wrong.

A) it will be cheaper to offer medical care to the affected. B) are there more cases in the us than in other countries ? C) the product was used properly ? D) the glifosate was mixed with other chemicals? E) did the users knew the product was toxic? F)how now one see this coming in Monsanto ?

I was diagnosed with NHL and Unrelated Kidney cancer in 1996. Diagnosed with NHL again in 1999 and again with a more aggressive form of NHL in 2016. I have used Round Up for years.

It's a match made in Heck. Bayer: "We made Zyklon-B to exterminate 'undesirables' in WWII." Monsanto: "We made Agent Orange and DDT!" Bayer: "We knowingly spread HIV tainted blood sera around the world." Monsanto: "We let our GMO's pollen waft around and infect family farms, then seize their farms claiming patent infringement." I was diagnosed with Lymphoma 3 weeks ago.. I have been using round up all of my life . I am sure it is the cause of my cancer as I was working for a millionaire rancher up in Tennessee a few years ago, mainly as a grounds keeper/landscape.. I literally used round up every single day for 3 years on that ranch . The wind would catch the mist from the sprayer and more times than not I would have round up in my face front a sudden gust of wind.. 😢 I can't afford treatment which means I am going to die 😢

One factor swaying juries has been the internal documents showing Monsanto executives covered up their knowledge of risks including with ghostwritten research. Maybe Bayer can sue Monsanto executives for misleading them about all these pending lawsuits.
