So he saves his tens for perfect, unflawed, immaculate games. That's a good thing. Some reviewers hand out tens like candy. What do they do when something better comes along? Yeah. MH4U is an amazing game and definitely one of my favorite games of all time, but I can recognize its flaws.

I left a comment on his beginner's guide for this game thanking him for convincing me to buy the game in March. I just want to say I've played literally more than 250 hours and have barely touched G3. There is still so, so much to do. This is literally my favorite game of all time. I cannot thank you enough Jared for convincing me to get this game. P.S. For anyone thinking about getting the game who owns a powersave I suggest you try everything in your being to not use it on this particular game. I know someone who does use it and I along side of the 2 other people I convinced to get the game pity him extremely. This whole game is about progressing because of what YOU earned. To cheat anything in at all, no matter how small or minor, is to cheat yourself of the entire experience. Don't do it. Any game but this.

I'm actually moving to 4U after playing Freedom Unite for about 3 years..... Like most of the other games I've been playing since 2011, I've got a little over a thousand hours in it. Sadly, I couldn't advance either Single or Guild more than halfway through High Rank, and with my PSP not charging the batterey, I can't really take it to work to play on breaks and such :p. Thankfully, I've got the new Special Edition 3DS XL on pre-order. My first 3DS is going to be this one. Absolutely hands-down this is my 3DS of choice. It looks so good, and the silver design looks a HELL of a lot like the Fur of a Blaongaga

I got a free download of MH3U for 3DS through a promotion Nintendo were doing once... I didn't play it for about a year (wasn't much interested, I had never played a MH game before)... then I got an Ambassador New 3DS about a year ago and decided to try out the new C-Stick. I ended up sinking about 200 hours into MH3U. Loved it. I'm about 500 hours now on MH4U, if you count all my files. Moral of the story? This game is excellent. Beyond excellent. Wow. So much fun!! (admittedly it does have a very steep learning curve. It took me about 15 hours to get the basics and I'm still learning stuff even now) You need to buy this game. I don't hate IGN because they sometimes give super biased, completely wrong reviews to titles deserving of better I hate IGN because they steal footage from youtubers, have absolutely no solid understanding of the culture they're trying to contribute to, actually fake TGS footage (related to the stealing bit) and have the nerve to LOWER their review score for a remake of a game by citing a problem THAT WAS ALREADY PRESENT IN THE ORIGINAL GAME AND WAS NEVER A PROBLEM TO BEGIN WITH!!! IGN is, how to say, dumb. Not bad, they're not malicious bastards out to ruin gaming, but sometimes, they can be dense. and I hate that about them. IGN needs to get a firm grasp on their own integrity before they do anymore reviews, they've lost sight of what makes what they are great and it really pains me to see them tripping up on something so stupid.

ever since i started the MH series, ive always been on my own, never had the chance to play online tbh, and even then, i still sunk hundreds of hours into the gameplay, plus, i make it a point to solo every monster before i even consider doing it with other people. and the way its been going, ive managed to solo most monsters so far. so dont worry about no friends, im doing just fine :D Truth be told however, ive only played MHFU and MHP3 but those two contain most of the monsters anyway

only problem now is that a majority of people online are either Elitist masters or obnoxious rookies, if you start out with online, people lower rank than you will join your room, post a quest. tell you "PLZ I need!" and if you say anything that is along the lines of "No" they'll start their quest. and the worst part of the game is that when they do that. YOU CAN'T KICK THEM OUT. meaning until they finish wasting your time, you're down a person for the quests you are trying to do. and their EVERYWHERE!!! not to mention the usual lack of etiquette they have. you know, triple carting, hiding in base till the jobs done. finishing with subquest early. knocking people down. etc. but then theres those "Elitists" I was talking about... their the people who think they're the best, they use copy paste armor, copy paste strategies, always fighting the same monsters. there is no variety. and if you don't follow flawlessly, your kkicked out after being called worthless. If you're hunter rank 236, they'll call you a noob... which makes no sense since it takes 100 hours to get that far... point is. they have nothing but an ego and a youtube video as a guide. which makes them unbearable.
@actionpants3138
@actionpants3138 8 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean but I don't think it's nearly as bad as you say, I mean nooby jerks are common but those are mainly in low and high rank, after all this is a complicated game with a massive learning curve so obviously they will be there. As for the elitists (who are almost strictly g rank) I've only encountered about 20 in my 1500 hours of playing, but maybe I'm just lucky. And I don't really mind them because most of them are hame teams, hame teams lock down the target till it dies but, if any of the four players aren't hame users the target will inevitably be able to get up and will most likely 1 hit everyone on the team, this may be repetitive but if you need to kill 200 monsters for one fuking rare drop! This becomes a godsend so I can understand why they'd kick you out, lastly are trolls, and they are harder to find then elitists, and to tell the truth I kinda enjoy them. They add a little bit of humor to the hunt and make your team the very stereotypical hunting party
@lilyaronia168
@lilyaronia168 8 жыл бұрын
and you are absolutely right! but the point stands that escalating up the ranks to get to the part where its more fun is absolutely awful, I made a new character after i hit hr 300. everything I said was so common that I eventually went back and tried to play that again, but then I encountered people hunting for apex gems and they were the WORST. a bowgunner and a chargeblader, a generic mixed set of armor, and both of them were so snobby, they gloat about how great they are, called others "worthless" because they didn't use the same sets as them, or if they fainted once they would immediately abandon and kick them out... THE WORST! but if its only happening to me then oh well. but some people are very inconsiderate. and the point of what I was trying to convey was "If you are going to play online, take precautions, make your own rooms, be careful of the signs of a troll or a person who is ill equipped, begging, immediate posting, do not be afraid to take action against them using host priveleges, also. be patient, there are good people out there and they will show up eventually."

There are always a bunch of people comparing this to Dark Souls. Can you compare it? Let's find out! A lot of the combat feels the same way. You're going to have to be careful and deliberate with your attacks, and once you start attacking, you're committed to those attacks. This isn't a Zelda combat system where your swipes are fast and you can disengage at any point, so you're going to have to be more careful than that. It's also very preparation based. This means which items to use, which armor to drag into battle and such. When using items, there's also a delay system built in where your character is locked in place for a little while, meaning that you have to be careful when you heal. Everything has a delay and feels weighty, just like in Dark Souls. Your main form of not taking damage is also, like in Dark souls, either blocking or evading attacks with a sweet combat roll. There is however no magic system, and no leveling system, both of which are important in the souls games. Aside from that, there are many similarities you can draw between the combat of Monster Hunter and Dark Souls. Each weapon functions wildly differently, so you have to choose a style that fits you. Other than that, there's not much more to compare. The level design is completely different, and Monster Hunter focuses on boss fights rather than Dark Souls' focus on smaller enemies and the situation at hand right here, right now. There aren't a lot of secrets either in MonHun which Dark Souls has a ton of. All in all, their overall design is wildly different, but their combat has a lot in common. Not perfect parallels, but I'd say it's fair to compare parts of the games.

The story is great, the monsters are great, everything is great. I’ve been playing monster Hunter ever since 3 Ultimate (I’ve been wanting to play that game ever since I was a little kid cuz I watched my sister play 3 tri on the Wii), and I’m now waiting for Monster Hunter Rise. And though MHW is great, it lacks the goofiness of previous games. Plus, the monster variety in World is kinda stale since more complicated models had trouble with inclined surfaces... But Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is by far the best game in the franchise for me, the story and characters OH MY GOD the monsters. It was the first mh game where I made it to G rank and doing so made you feel SO FRICKIN REWARDED, I can’t even begin to explain how awesome getting into G rank feels in that game... But if I had to put it into words it feels as if you were transcending into a living legend

Jack Rappen Not to say I think the game’s bad but I feel like it’s partially riding off World’s contrarian bandwagon right now. The styles feel rushed together, spammy, and I hate that they all remove at least something from the base weapon movesets, even Guild style which promises exactly that. The deviants are a mixed bag, some are fun and interesting, others are boring or just complete horseshit. Honestly, in my eyes, the only thing the gen games have over 4U and World is volume of content.

MH4U is great. Got some dust off my 3DS XL recently to check it out (and to compare the feeling with MHW I'm playing now) and online multiplayer is still on, and people are playing! That was a nice addition since MH3U had only local play. Unfortunately 4-player MP really drops the framerate unless you're playing on a New 3DS.

I remember playing Tri but never fully getting into, then I played the demo for MH3U on 3DS, didn't really enjoy it, but 4U and Generations is what made me fall madly in love with the MH franchise, four years later the rumors of a Switch exclusive Monster Hunter (Double Cross/Generations Ultimate's 3DS version never got localised) is making me excited yet again like I was for Generations on 3DS, long live the hunters of old and welcome the hunters of new

One thing that was not mentioned, was how they treat EXPEDITIONS. It is done VERY poorly. Fans of MH3/MH3U will remember the Moga hunts - where you can go out and kill monsters at leisure. However, in 4U, the monsters on expeditions can actually escape. Similar to how you "repel" monsters, but it can be done with EVERY. SINGLE. MONSTER. YOU. FIGHT. In short - each expedition is a speed run. You gotta be fast, otherwise you don't get your reward.
@egfregfy4tgf3gtf
@egfregfy4tgf3gtf 9 жыл бұрын
VGE which is why monsters are able to come in and out of the expedition, i've so far only let one monster get away, because i avoided it on purpose. Fuck najarala. i hate that bastard. one expedition when i still needed parts from Kecha, i had quite an expedition, i killed Kecha, then a Velocidrome, then a Kecha, then a Kut-ku, then carted because i was too slow to heal, and over estimated myself on kut-ku, then faced a khezu, and finished with another Kecha, basarios spawned, but i had very little health/healing items, so i left the expedition. all that being said, while yes, you do at times have to be fast, the kitchen food gives you the ability to weaken the monsters you encounter (which they're already weakened when there's more than one), and since you have to face the monster in a quest before being able to see them on an expedition (even drome/basarios were a quest prior to being in the expedition), as long as you're prepped properly, you'll always win before they can run off.

VGE I only really hate expeditions because a lot of the monsters in G-rank are Guild Quest exclusive, so in order to fight them you HAVE to farm in expeditions. Or be lucky enough to know someone who already bothered with that and get his quest instead. But that's no fun. Ffs, I shouldn't have to farm in order to get a quest in order to farm that quest (G-rank Gore Magala much?).

I think the fact that there is no voice chat makes it better. Like in all games if you combine veteran players with newbies the veterans will take away from the feel of finding out how to damage monsters and they will just shout at the new players for doing things wrong that they didn't even know about.

I hated MH 3. the movements were like walking through mud and the grinding of monsters wasn't fun to me. picking up hundreds of butterflies wasn't fun, nor was mining, skinning was a pain, why do you have to keep hitting A to re-skin a monster you just skinned? why didn't it give me everything the first time? repetitive and unresponsive controls just pissed me off in 3 and it doesn't look like much as changed in 4, so I'm going to pass, but I'm glad Jared enjoys it, I just don't understand why.

I love the new practice quests against a great jaggi you can go on in the beginning. They're entirely optional but let you practice with the two new weapons(Charge blade and Insect Glaive) against a monster that's both familiar and easy to anyone playing. I also adore the Insect Glaive, especially once you get the final kinsects after hundreds of hours, because it's very unique and you feel VERY satisfied after finally making the ultimate kinsect for your playstyle(effect extender for life :D). I played Monster Hunter 3 on the Wii and 3u on the 3DS(I played these two to completion, I also played a few other games here and there, but I never really got into the series because of how long it took to get into the rythem if the games) and this feels amazing compared to the two. You already gave it a great review that I completely agree with, so I won't go on about how much I love MH4U, but I will say I have ONE complaint you didn't mention. The monsters feel a little "cartooney" at times. From a farting monkey to a chicken monster with a flashbang beak and a rubber tail that I honestly can't look at without feeling sorry for, I just don't like a bunch of the new monsters they introduced. They all introduce new mechanics that I enjoyed, such as not being able to use items to blinding explosions for the two I just mentioned, but I just didn't feel like I used to when facing a Lagiacrus or a Tigrex(Tigrex is still in the game, but it's one of the "cooler" monsters in the series in my opinion and it's a great basis for good monster designs). Monsters like Congalala, Zamtrios, Yain Kut-Ku, and Gypceros just looked awkward and weird compared to everything else, and I make myself promise to do everything in my power to not die when fighting them lest I admit a hunter that would go on to kill a snake the size of a mountain got beat by a farting gorilla or a balloon shark. It's a minor thing compared to all the improvements they've made, but it just bothers me that, when they have so many amazing ideas, they also have to throw in some disgusting monsters with, more often than not, the most irritating abilities to fight. Monster Hunter has always had a few of these monsters scattered throughout its games, but the fact that there are so many and that most show up at the beginning just seems to go beyond annoying and into bad game design territory because they run the risk of new players seeing the least enjoyable, awkward monsters at the very start and thinking that they game is more "childish" than it really is. I'm all for new mechanics, different designs, and unique attack patterns, but when we have so many of them before we're allowed access to the "good" monsters that intimidate us, it's just annoying. Other than this, though, I love the game and everything about it.

I'm going to be getting this game in the next few days guys, so I'll be starting from scratch (Only played the 3rd one on the Wii). So if anyone fancies starting from the beginning on a new multiplayer playthrough just reply here :D (None of my friends have this or a 2DS/3DS :( )

I would compare Monster Hunter with the great Dark Souls Series, only without the annoying back stabbing from prepared pvp players that invade you while you are all prepared to pve against some nasty big demon with your greatsword and heavy armor, that is too slow against other players... Both games are hard, but very rewarding! You have to learn the enemy attack pattern, you forge your own equipment to your liking and playstyle through fighting and exploring and you have a nice advanture and feel very rewarded especially after a successful hard boss fight! A must have for every Dark Souls veteran who desire new epic fights.

AH silver MH4U and MHXX are better in many ways. MH4U is overall A LOT harder (not as much as MHFU, which had bullshit levels of difficulty), MH4U had Weapon Honing, MHXX has Armor Transmogging, SO MANY MONSTERS, all the crossover armor and stuff from Zelda, Mario, Devil May Cry, Metroid, Sonic, Megaman, Street Fighter... The list goes on and on... but it's mostly the fact that World is easier than 3U, 4U, FU, or XX. (I don't know about Frontier, tbh). Then again, if you are not much of a masochist, that may be a good thing too. World is pretty damn good, but not the best in EVERY WAY. (It doesn't even have G Rank ffs)

Mh4u was my first mh game ever and everyone looked at me like a big noob at the beginning, well they were right. But after 300 hours of playtime I'm not a big noob anymore. ps. it's the freaking best game ever!

Don't forget about the circle pad pro option for the original 3DS which not only makes the system a hell of a lot more comfortable to hold for extended periods of time, but also gives a much better option for camera controls. Good review though, this is the first MH game I've really been able to get into (200 hours so far). I owned the original but it was such a new concept that I didn't really understand and I had just bought a ps2 with a bunch of games so I gave up on it after several hours, and I played 3u for maybe 20 hours before getting tired of it (I really hated the water). 4U is easily 1 of my fav games ever made.

Most underrated game series in the states EVER! I love this series and i've been with it since the first on PS2. I'll never forget people yelling at me for knocking them into the air! "UPS!!!!" I find when i fight bosses in other games it feels less rewarding and somewhat disappointing because i can't carve it!!! I chase down monsters in Evolve... yet no carves to be had! WHY!? WHY!!!??!?!?!

I am new to the Monster Hunter series, but two of the games have caught my eye. Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate and Monster Hunter Generations. Out of the 2, which one should I get?
@bazzadin5213
@bazzadin5213 8 жыл бұрын
I'd say Generations, more people are playing it at lower ranks than in 4u, and it's easily the most accessible mh to date.
@sevada7105
@sevada7105 8 жыл бұрын
Like the other Bazzadin said, if you want multiplayer in the lower ranks, then go for Mhgen. But I would say Mh4u is the most approachable in the series, with great tutorials and polished mechanics. Mhgen is more of a love letter to the vets of the series with 4 styles that change up the weapon controls, and the hunter arts, which are awesome rule of cool anime moves. But regardless of that, Mhgen is still ok to go with, especially because of how new it is. But, no matter which one you pick, expect to spend a lot of time on the kiranico website (the games wiki) to find out all the minute stuff in the game. Hope that was helpful! PS: Please watch all of Projared's and Polygon's beginers guides to the Monster Hunter games. The PJ one is a very good in dept tutorial on Mhtri and Mh4u and Polygon's one is good to tell you about Mhgen.

Sevada Rostamloo I'd have to agree with the approachability of 4u. I think the only reason i'm enjoying the villages so much in gen is because of the 3u and 4u characters i spent hundreds of hours getting to know. I'd disagree with the tutorials though, no mh game has ever had good tutorials, though the ones in 4u are the best ones to date. TANKTREAD The main things 4u has over gen are -superior offline -G rank -better characters (imo) -Guild quests -Harder difficulty provides more of a challenge (at least, early on) -More armour due to G-rank. -colossal monsters -cool-looking cutscenes first time you fight a monster offline -subspecies The main things gen has over 4u are -very active online -deviant monsters -felynes are playable -weapons were rebalanced -over 50 different ways to use weapons -hunter arts -every flagship to date -loads of different maps (every map in 4u+others from previous gen+J.Frontier) -easier learning curve for new players -way more interesting characters
