Your mistakes are nothing gaijin, what you presented to us is really useful to understand better what internal ammo is. Looking at how much haphazard skill can affect the game, this internal ammo guide is really useful. I mean, reaaaaally useful. Thanks a lot gaijin.

I really love what they did with the buffing shots in Gen. In past games they were kind of a hassle to manage with not much benefit. Thanks to the new and stronger variations and not having to combine them they are much more useful. Plus, if you use LBG with Full House you can always keep the buff shots loaded, quickly switch and fire them, then switch right back to your primary ammo to keep up the damage.

aww man i was waiting for this! now i can hammer out which HBG to go for mid game that will be useful close to end game. looking at the info provided it looks like there will be an event HBG that will crouch fire lvl 1 cannon shot, beyond that for anything cannon specific the feyline cannon would be the other HBG choice, oddly not a lot of high cannon shot guns otherwise. but if they fire crag of all levels too, an artilery set could be fun with either of those.

Good info, save for one thing: rapidfire element-pierce lv2 is far, far better than rapidfire element lv2, even on things you wouldn't expect with poor pierce hitzones, like silver rathalos. Nebula Storm is just plain better than the Royal Torrent, for example. Elegant Parasol can take down a Savage Jho in less than 6 minutes, solo, which no other thunder rapidfire gun will do. It's easy to line yourself up for good pierce shots using Striker and 2 evades, which I recommend over Adept with only Full House III. You will instantly see the difference with all the flinches you get in the first 2 clips. Elegant Parasol also can break Uka's and Aka's back and Sub out in under 40 seconds, far faster than the arm cannon's dazzling shots (and that's only a 15 thunder hitzone!). Pierce-element is brutal.

-At that, none of the internal shots can be rapid/crouching fired.- Edit: Turns out I'm wrong. MHXDex mentions that the Arm Cannon can rapid fire Dazzling S. That said, I'm fairly sure that not all weapons can rapid fire internal shots, only some.

Actually, almost every gun in the game can rapid/crouch fire at least one of it's internal shots. Check the starting LBG and HBG for example, both can rapid/crouch fire Stone shots.

I've been doing calculations to figure out if his claims are plausible and so far there are holes in my information that I can't ignore as I know neither if striker buffs the LBG or the motion values of rapid rain. I'm not saying he's lying but I need to run the numbers to be sure one way or another.

deathseraph3 Im not good at calculations, however I do know that the only thing striker LBG changes is that it removes the back and side hops in exchange for 3 Arts. No damages changes or anything like that.

I can't find any information about the difference between evasion +1 and evasion +2. Most of what I find is outdated info for mh4u and if mhgen is the same that would make evasion +2 fairly useless considering evasion 1 was 10 i-frames and evasion 2 was 12 i-frames. For reference evasion 3 in mh4u was 18 i-frames but is not available in mhgen. So what are the i-frames for mhgen versions of evasion skills?

GH, you are always much appreciated! First game I've tried to main HBG, so stuff like this has been a godsend! Also, was I reading too much into things, or does the guild girl at the village (or was it the hub) make a shout out to you when she's explaining how key-quests work? If so, AWESOME! Glad the localization team noticed all the work you've done for the community!

I remember hearing about the (maybe) shoutout to GH somewhere before, but when I was playing the game I forgot to pay attention to the dialog and must have skipped it. Do you remember what the character says, because I'm rather curious but cant seem to find the line anywhere.

It was either the Bherna quest-giver, or the hub-quest giver, pretty early on in speaking to them. They say something along the lines of "If you want more information about key quests, I'm sure there's a foreign hunter around here somewhere that can tell you all about it." Which, y'know, hunters from other regions often show up in these areas, buuuut, there's no such hunter, nor does anyone else in game, to my knowledge, give you more info on key quests.

Indeed! It's a neat thought, especially given how companies are comming around to realizing that online communities do very much help drive their franchises. Just look at some of the things FromSoft did with youtubers like VaatiVidja before their DS3 release...

Regarding the Blast shots and why they are so under used. I thought they were really good too when I first saw them, and they are, however there is one major problem. Only 6 bowgun lines get them (Brachy, Glavenus, Teostra (HBG only), Tigrex (HBG only) Grimclaw ( lvl 1 blast only), and Hellblade (lvl 1 blast only)) and the bowguns themselves are only decent. Combine this with the fact you only get 8 lvl 1 blast shots (can only load 2 at a time) and 5 lvl 2 blast shots (can only load 1 at a time) and its easy to see why they are not seen very often. Heavy shots also suffer from the same problem of having very few bowguns that use them, not many shots, and poor loading capacity.

I have a True shot up, Ammo Saver, Attack up(L) set for the arm Canon. Feels so good! You can even snipe, since it has no critical distance.

I have an Astolos LBG with thunder pierce and rapid Thunder shot that i use with my Moofa S set the has thunder attack +2 and i jeweled it with TrueShot Up. I call it the Anti-Plesi set.

Thank you for making this video, it really helps to understand the system as ingame it isn't explained all that much. Just a quick question: are internal ammos affected by other boosting skills? Like, you mentioned that Force and Long are variations of Normal Shots, so does NormalUp increase their power too? Would be cool to know if that's a thing =)

Sweet video. Alas my first experience with gunning in MHX was an unpleasant one. I was using the Rathalos LBG in the Gamuto pre-quest to deliver Popo tongues. I thought I'd have some fun and kill Gamuto too, but I ended up carting after 45 minutes, having used up all my ammo and supplies. I had a similar experience with Mizutsune in it's pre-quest. I was wailing on it a long while with hammer and it just wouldn't die.

That's because your not supposed to fight the pre-quest encounters. They are intentionally designed to have a ridiculous amount of health for those quests and those quests only so that you don't beat them, because they are meant to be just a teaser. You can totally still beat them, but its pretty much a waste of time to do so since you get nothing for beating them and fight them for real not too long after. Take a bowgun into literally any other quest and focus on shooting basically any monster in the face with normal lvl 2s. I'm maining LBG in Gen so I can assure you that you will get much better results.

The Gamuto in that quest has 3 times the usual amount of health to make sure you don't kill it. Same for the other fated four in their first appearance quests.

theguywithnoaccount Oh I know Bowgun is good. I'm not new to the series lol. It was just that one quest vs a Gamuto I was never supposed to beat was my first bowgun experience in this game. I'm sad that my favourite HBG (the Mohran HBG) doesn't return in this game. I bet it would have had pierce water and cannon internal shots if it did. Oh and any tips for good low rank gunner armours? I'm using Lagiacrus armour atm. I don't see Diablos or Barroth armour in this game :s

Sure thing, its a mixed set, but its easy to make and the skills are great. Get the Rathalos Gunner helm, Rathalos chest, Centaur or Gourmew arms, Rathalos waist, and Bnahabra legs. Use any 2 slot talisman and fill all the slots with attack jewels (and one ammo saver jewel if using the Centaur arms) and you get a set with Attack Up S, Weakness Exploit, and Ammo Conserve. If you have a 3 slot talisman or a weapon with 1 slot then you can swap out the Gunner helm for the Blademaster helm for more defence. This set can pretty much carry you all the way to high rank, its really effective.

theguywithnoaccount Sweet. I'll get right on it then. I've got plenty of Rathalos parts lying around after farming him for his blademaster armour and weapons. It's funny how in previous games, mixed sets weren't too great till the higher ranks, while in MHGen, mixed sets are the way to go in low rank.

Holy crap, that kind of made my head hurt. I only just started to understand bowguns in MH4U, may stay clear from them in Generations to be honest. I love my Bows, but it became a pain to use in 4U when I couldn't immediately load a new shot right away. Eugh, oh well, I always have my blade-master weapons at least.

Bowgun is actually quite easy to understand. Most of the time it's just shoot and reload ^^ The critical distance thing is the same as bow and of all the different internal shots there are only a small number which are really useful. Most of them are very situational, especially on multiplayer

I know making an entire lbg/hbg tutorial would be a waste since most of the concepts are the same, but could you go over the hunting arts for each and the differences between the 3 styles? I know there are other videos out there but most of them just use terms like "way more powerful" and "highly effective" without giving any actual stats, and your videos are generally much more helpful and laid out 100% better (see what I did there?).

I have just made a set with piercing up and ice+2 for the Zamtrios LBG. It has rapid fire on ice piercing2. But was it better to have ice+2 and elemental+ then piercing then? I really searched for a video like this so I'm really thankful.

Anyone know how to make an armor set very similar to the one mentioned in this video? Currently using HR Kirin and have 4 armor sets for all the diff elements. All have elemental +1 except for thunder, which I have +2 for. It will be very hard to try and get trueshot jeweled in as well though..

Here's something I wonder if someone could help with. When rapid firing any shot, does the full motion value apply to every individual shot that is rapid fired or is it reduced? If it's full motion for every rapid fired dazzling shot for the Arm Cannon X, then that's just redonkulous on it's own let alone with True Shot Up, Bonus Shot, Load Up and Ammo Saver.

-Escadora Sagesse R -Crusher Garb -Escadora Arma R -Vaik Coat S -EX Hermitaur Leggings (or any legs with Torso up, this one has the most def.) Then just gem in the skills. You need a charm with either: - Specific-Element+13 O - Element+12 OO - Element+11 OO - Element+10 OOO There's some leeway if you use a weapon with slots.

my armor set isn't quite as good, but accomplishes a similar goal and is accessible much earlier. Felyne Hairband Crusher Garb Kirin Gloves R Vaik Coat S Chrome Metal Feet If you want to try finding optimal mixed sets for yourself, I recomend searching for Athene's Armor Set Search (athena's ASS for short). It's a neat program that lets you build armor sets based on skills without having to look through all the individual armor pieces and doing the math yourself.

Two question. If I remember well, in MH4u , the motion for Elemental was 7 + Element45 or atk*0.07 physical damage+atk*0.45 elemental damage. Someone know: 1) If it is still like this In MHgen ? 2) It is the same for those internal elemental shoot or if they deal unaffect by atk elemental damage ?

WAIT! I have questions. So yes the Element Stacks with internal ammo but will the specific elements stack i.e. Water Up 1 and 2 etc.? If I have Mountainous Howl(Mizutsune HBG) and I have Pierce Up and Haphazard how will that effect the water Pierce? Will It affect the whole bullet or just the motion values? Would, in that previous instance, Water Attack Plus 2 be better then Pierce Up?

Unless a monster has increased affinity for an element, wouldn't pierce still be more effective since its pretty easy to get 3 hits at least? Especially since you pretty much always do 100% damage unless the monster is the same element.

Do the buff bullets stack with other buffs besdies Hunting Horns? Are the buff stacking conditions the same as before? I thought it was really weird that if we eat for attack or defense we don't get the respective buff icon. I guess they are, but still seeing almost no prowler whenever I hunt online. Though I still don't have the purr-fect prowler yet. It's always missin 1-2 skills :/

I read somewhere that Rapid Fire Rain shots for LBG are just the same damage as Normal Lv1, is this true?

Yup, 6 motion value, sadly. The damage output is pretty bad compared to how long it takes to use the entire Art. Maybe if you run a high Crit, Crit boost, normal shot set you could get some good damage out of it but I have yet to test this myself.

OK, so I'm new to Bowguns in MH Gen and something is super confusing to me: How the heck do I cut off tails with Slicing Shot? From what I can gather, they're internal ammo only. But I would think that monster tails still have HP beyond just 10 shots or so with Slicing level 1, right? So I've tried using piercing to get tail hits off easier and wear the part down but it doesn't really work. So does hitting the tail with non-slicing shots help cut it? Or do I just need to get the strongest weapon I can find with Slicing shots and just make sure I hit it with everything I can without missing immediately in the fight? Any help would be extremely appreciated.

Any damage with bowguns other than slicing aren't going to help cut the tail. For bowguns, Slicing S shots are the only ones that do any slicing damage. With TrueShot Up, (1.2x modifier) I can usually cut a Glavenus's tail with *all* 15 shots (Slicing S lvl 1/using the Astalos Hvy Bowgun) *occasionally*, given they are all hit within critical range, although I'm not sure if the critical range modifier effects the amount of slicing damage since it's fixed slicing damage. I think Glavenus's tails are probably one of the hardiest tails in the game, if that tells you anything. If you really want to cut off tails, I would go with something that has 15+ lvl 1/2 Slicing shots and get TrueShot Up & Ammo Saver. I usually only use slicing if I'm out of better bullets to use, or to get my Gunpowder Infusion gauge up (since it actually fills it quite a bit), but occasionally, with monsters like Glavenus, I try to cut their tail since they depend on it so much.

Can i ask that whether if all the buff shots , recovery ammo demon & armor ammo etc. If you accidentally shoot at a monster , would the buffs apply to them ?? Pls reply cos it really means alot to know this !!

Shh Hunter Yes they do. Any monster you shoot with a buff shot, get's that buff.

11:05 if I'm using things like Canon or Triblast on rapid, is the explosion damage reduced to 70%, or just the motion value?

There are no LBGs that can rapid fire Cannon or Triblast shots. There are plenty of LBGs that rapid fire crag shots though. If I recall correctly the damage of the crag explosion is not reduced, similar to how rapid fire status shots don't have their status damage reduced.
