Monster Hunter Stories Remastered
Playthrough | Part 1: A New Rider Emerges
Okay so are you pretty much surprised by this right? Well this came out for the Nintendo 3DS several years ago. I was fortunately able to review the game but in a surprising twist, Capcom decided to give this game the remastered treatment. So without further ado, let's get on with it. This is Monster Hunter Stories Remastered.
This is basically a remastered version of Monster Hunter Stories, released for the Nintendo 3DS. It arrived in Japan on October 8, 2016 and the rest of the world on September 8-9, 2017. It would also get an Android & iOS port in Japan three months later and worldwide in September of 2018. And now it is officially released on Switch, PS4 and PC. This is a spin-off of the Monster Hunter series, where instead of defeating monsters, you raise them to be your allies similar to Pokémon. But unlike Pokémon, you raise small monsters known as Monsties and become a Monster Rider.
In terms of the plot, the story centers on a group of teenagers. The main protagonist Tule find a nest with a monster egg. It hatches into a Rathalos named Ratha who bonds with Tule. But upon returning back to Hakum Village, they get attacked by a vicious Nargacuga controlled by something known as the Black Blight. Ratha tries to defend the village but is killed & during the scuffle, Cheval's mother dies.
One year later, the village has recovered but things haven't been the same. Tule undergoes a trial to become a Rider. He gets his hands on his first monster, a Velociprey but he also gets a new ally, Navirou. Think of him as our navigator of sorts. There's so much here that it's nuts.
Since it's a spin-off of Monster Hunter, there are elements of the series in it such as buying weapons, armor and items. You can even upgrade your gear but you need materials. You can take part in quests but you can only do those that relate to your rank. You start at 1-star and to get further, you got to do the story. Yep. It's a lot so what can you do.
We get much done here and complete the Rider Trials to become a Monster Rider. See you in Part 2 where we continue on.
