Brilliant underwater footage. What I found interesting was for the first second or two they didn't realise they were hooked and got me thinking about striking on a bite, maybe I should wait a little longer before hitting the bite. Thanks for a great video.

I caught a 2lb 11oz Perch on the river Weaver many years ago,to me the most beautiful fresh water fish. I have ever seen since it was my first catch in 1958 with my dad on winsrsford flashes,all 3oz of it, however your camera work I have never seen before and it is absolutely fantastic,please keep it up.

The paternoster on a short weight leader, is probably the ideal rig for circle hooks, because the fish hooks itself almost immediately as it pulls against the lead.

I'm continually amazed at the size of the Perch in your water systems. I wish we had fisheries like that here in Wisconsin and Northern Michigan. But then the people would destroy them in no time by over fishing.

Biggest perch I ever caught while growing up in Saskatchewan was around one pound. Perch are really great fish to pan fry and eat as their meat is white, firm and flaky. As well, perch takes well being salted and dried for preserving over long periods of time but typically this is only a traditional Asian method of preserving fish for long periods of time where there were no means of refrigeration like we have today.

I just finished watching a lake fishing video in Norway where they were consistently pulling out insanely sized perch unlike anything I have ever seen before. Can you imagine a 7 pound perch? I couldn’t until I saw that video! They caught a bunch of four pounders and even a few 5 and six pounders! It really was an unbelievable watch! Over here in NSW, Australia, introduced Redfin perch are a noxious pest & it’s illegal to return them alive into the waterways. Being such prolific breeders means that it is common to have cricket scores of fish captured in some of our lakes. Pound for pound they aren’t a great fighting fish but they sure do taste great! Caught a pair of monsters last Spring from my kayak about 2kg and 2.5kgs, but funny enough that was all I caught. Still, it was much easier to fillet that pair of fish than fillet a hundred plus 20cm fish.

At a guess I’d say it was a Yorkshire river. Great video and I loved the underwater footage. I used to use small Gudgeon for perch up to 3 1/2 lb. At that size they take on an almost prehistoric look. Very angular and muscular.

Can I just ask all you people out there commenting about how you don't agree with live baiting, why are you here, watching a video that clearly states in the title "live baiting" for perch? Live baiting is one of those archaic methods like gorge hooking which has mainly died out in England where pretty much the whole coarse angling community operate a catch and release policy and of the 7 or so different angling associations that I have been a member of over the last 30 years it is not allowed in any circumstances and will get your membership revoked ( there may be clubs that allow it but I have not come across them ) and as far as I know is universally banned on commercial waters due to the stress caused to the fish. I know that in different countries different ethics apply and if you are talking about a true survival situation then morals are a second consideration but I have found a wobbled dead bait just as effective. Tight lines out there guys.

Wow!! Too many couch anglers in here crying about the poor little live bait ahahahahahaha You do realize what this is right? It's fishing, not a vegan assembly!! People getting over sensitive on fish-care, don't do this and don't do that need a reminder! Next fish you catch, take home, fry it, eat it, remember what the real meaning is to all this. Honor what nature gave you by EATING IT. The whole meaning of catch and release was to.... keep it healthy, so that you can take some more home in the future! Over sensitivity about a fish's life it's just a 21st century schizophrenic phenomenon just like the vegans are.

A beautiful Perch! Nice underwater work. I love circle hooks, but they are hard to take out of the bones on Mahi, Mahi, Many countries also sell "Live Baits!" Even here in Canada.

In Sweden, "Monster Perch" weighs in at two kilogram, or in excess of four pounds. The most extreme of them, might be as heavy as four kilogram or seven pounds. It has bothered my mind, how they can actually catch their prey, with that miniscule tail-fin , thus low drive, unlike the salmonoid fish or the pike. Another thought is their almost micropscopic teeth, compared to the forementioned fish. You can in fact gently hold them in the mouth, using their very small teeth to not loose the grip, until you decide to release them or keep them for food, unhooking them either way.

Using alive fish is a total cruelty to animals. Alive fish should never be used as a bait. In many countries it is forbidden to use alive fish as a bait because it is cruelty to animals. For example in the Ireland it has been forbidden by law for decades.

All I can say is... glad I'm not a small fish, every moment of their life they have dinner written all over them. Brilliant underwater footage !!

Great video. Beautiful fish. I’ve used circle hooks for a long time. I find that if you try to set the hook when a fish bites you will most likely pull the hook right out of it’s mouth. On the other hand, if you let them take off with the bait and then just reel down on them the hook finds it’s way to the corner of the mouth and sets itself. I love not injuring the fish.

Biggest issue using the circle hook, the individual fishing has to allow time for the fish to actually hook itself. Thoroughly enjoyed watching you having a great time catching perch.

Perch know they are delicious is my take on this. We use bronze hooks for panfish and cut the line if they are gut hooked. The acid in their stomach takes care of the hook. YEHAA from East Ky

The Perch we have in North America while looking almost identical to European perch, are no where near as big! Ours are more elongated and not as chunky or as thick as yours. I was watching a clip about some perch being caught in Holland and those things were the size of Largemouth Bass, some being over 5 pounds!! Thats unheard of over hear for a yellow perch!! That last one you caught that you guessed at half a pound would be considered huge over here! Ive also noticed that a 12 in perch from Europe is much thicker and heavier than the same sized American perch!! Perch are my favorite eating fresh water fish, so if yours taste as good as ours, Im really jealous!! LOL!! Also you have a fish called Zander which is almost identcal to 2 fish native here one being the Walleye, and the other being the Sauger and they've been cross-bred producing whats called a Saugeye which have been planted extensively in many states and in some places have out competed both parent stocks and are the most abundant of the 3 in many lakes and rivers. Walleye get bigger than Sauger, and Saugers seem to be more easily caught and the Saugeye get bigger than Saugers and are more easily caught than Walleyes, being a bit more aggressive it seems. Your Zanders get even bigger than Walleye, and can interbreed with them as well as with Saugers so it is illegal to plant Zanders in the U.S. and Canada. Also the Zander, Walleye,Sauger and Perch are all very closely related fish. Keep up the good fishin, thanks for the videos!!!

I was doing a bit of wasp bashing this morning with 1 inch plastics, as I was landing a little perch a huge perch appeared from no where and swallowed up the little wasp on my line, but as the little size #12 jig head was just in the mouth of the little perch the monster perch just spat it out as I struck. Shows how effective live bait could be however for catching monster perch

So many fish in that river! Maybe two years ago but still! I baited 3 spots, around a huge fallen tree, a little back eddy and a wier pool on the Wensum last weekend and didnt have anything, didn't see any signs of fish AT ALL. I've fished for 22+yrs and am very capable, but I've never seen such a beautiful river be so devoid of fish! If you search river wensum otters on youtube you can see why.

Wish our perch where that big in the US..a two pounder is a total trophy fish..your catching them that size one after another.. tasty fish
