Imagine catching dozens of monster trout up to 21 pounds! We graphed big schools of baitfish and saw large arches on the graphs. Most of the trout were in 60 to 80 feet of water on steep banks. I heard the Lahontan Cutthroat trout were big but I had no idea! I figured they were like salmon so took along some Blade Runner Tackle spoons to jig and the new flutter spoon. I also took along gitzits that I’ve used in the ocean for salmon and fresh water landlocked salmon and they all worked as we caught two over 20 pounds and many in the 10 to 15 pound class.
Don’t miss this video as we caught some huge fish and got two 20 pound pins from the bar. You have to prove you caught the fish so don’t forget to take a picture of the fish hanging on a scale. First time I’ve ever fished Pyramid Lake and I sure wasn’t disappointed!
Stay tuned for Episode 2 where I show you how to locate baitfish on your fish finder and describe what areas to target for the bigger trout. I’ll demonstrate the techniques and lures we use to hook 20+ pounders as we always go after the biggest fish in the lake!

Good video. Thanks for sharing. Side Note: Lake record is 41 pounds (caught in the 1920's before the drawn down of water and massive fish kill). A few fisherman have caught fish in the low 30 lb range in recent years. Fish in the high 20 lb range have been caught at least every year over the last 5 years. Some of those fish were weighed in at Pyramid Store (formerly Crosby's).

Head left in yak.. try spider point.. the whole area holds fish and popular with yak fisherman. You can also drive to shot dog.. take the road down and launch.. with cooler temps and pre winter fronts.. fish should be moving up shallow.. you can also fish near pelican rocks but have to be off bank 200 yards to give bank fisherman space.. that whole area will be on fire come Nov-Dec and onto spring

Those were some nice fish Alan! Were you guys using downriggers? Where do I buy one of those Alan Fong Outdoors T-shirts?
@djgmix916
@djgmix916 Жыл бұрын
No downriggers we were not trolling.. we were vertical jigging flutter spoons and traditional jigging spoons by Blade Runner Tackle and white gitzits as well as hook up baits. Some boats were trolling however with riggers to get down to deeper fish but they were also all over water column chasing up bait.

@@ggwoutdoors2a I also rarely use riggers at Pyramid and still do Fairly well. Fish will be moving up in shallower water column so fall-winter and early spring you can get them without riggers but it’s all relative to where bait is and where fish are holding at depending on area of lake. Late spring to early summer before lake closes riggers are effective. But I like to target the larger roamer fish who are feeding outside of schools.. then schooling fish stay together but also average 6-10 pounders.. the bigger ones are usually roaming alone in various depths. And we have caught them 12-18 lbs with a few in the 20+ lbs range.

I am a local resident and member of different pyramid lake fishing forums on social media and have not heard that. I also fished the lake two times last week and did not hear or see any dive or cleanup crews out there, they have strict regulations about using artificial bait like power bait or any other live bait. Most fishermen respect the rules wouldn’t be using that and if they got caught there would be Stiff fines. Additionally you can only use barbless hooks and unscented baits. I mean anything is possible for people to catch fish but breaking the rules could be bad karma especially on an Indian reservation.

The lake opens Oct 1- June when it closes. Anytime is a good time but you have to check the wind and weather. On boat I wouldn’t go out with wind gust over 10-12 mph. It get rough but yet the shallow bite turns on at the beaches and bank fishin is off the hook. Right now the fish are going to start transitioning to their winter patterns where they’re going to get spread out so trolling and finding schools would be the best method to find them and then you can get on top of them and jig and spoon like we were doing in the video. January through March is also awesome as they get ready for their spring to summer migration to spawn. The fish will move near the shallow beaches and hang off the ledges to feed before they start making their way to spawn around may n June. The fishing is just good throughout the whole season you just have to figure out the weather patterns and wind and go out and find them!
