It’s safe to say Alicia Sornosa goes a bit futher than your typical motorcycle enthusiast. As someone who’s criss-crossed the world a few times on two wheels, one might think it’s all about the adventure with her, but Alicia isn’t just a rider seeking open road freedom and bug-plastered visors. A journalist by trade, she’s also well versed in moto history and keeps a collection of vintage machinery as an alternative to the modern options. In today’s film we follow Alicia up into the hills as she takes us through the story of the Montesa brand, and the story of this particular Impala Sport 250.

Back in the day, early to mid '60s, I was enamored of Spanish bikes, there was always the tension between Montessa and Bultaco, both stylish and iconic. The Bultacos were perhaps more affordable, anyway I ended up with them, lawn mowing money seemed to go further then. First a 175cc Mercurio, then the pinnacle Metralla. Fun fact, Cycle World used a photo of the Metralla front brake in their masthead for many years, the scooped dual leading shoe side plate had a lot of panache.

The single cylinder (and some two or three cyls), two stroke (And some four), Italian bikes of the 60's and 70's sound so good. They may not have a lot of HP and TQ, but they have so much character they are an absolute joy to ride. Beautiful motorbike and wonderful story (of the bike and owner!) Once again, Petrolicious at it's best!

The motorcycle world here, mostly in Catalonia was huge back in the day, its sad to see how we've been loosing all our brands and pedigree of such great products. I began loving this vehicles as a kid, not that long ago as I'm just 25 but when I was 16 or 17 I bougt a Derbi Antocha Olimpica, also made here but was just a 49cc, loved it, and I drove it to the closing of the factory, a sad day. Luckily we've got lots of clubs an people who love this motorcycles, value and preserve them.

Haha you're right. But in some Montesas with the gear shift on the right side is imposible to use a socket wrench and you need that simple fixed wrench. I hate it, but I have to do the same tedious process on my Montesa Cota 247 when I need to open the crankcase for checking the flywheel. Regards

@josem.guillen8286

Cierto.
