Beautiful video. I'm from Africa and children here at 8 years of age can cook a meal for 10 people. Children here are so independent. It's good that Montessori can help children in those areas out there.

I went to traditional school, but the teachers who stood out in my life and left an impact were the teachers who thought outside of the traditional box. One experience of that is my art teacher. My art teacher and the class left the school walking to paint a mural on the library wall. One of the lessons it taught me was how important it is to contribute to your community.

i've been working late at night these past 2 weeks. so i think all together ive been listening to maybe 70-80% of your podcasts while doing work at night bcs i just found out abt this podcast >.< i learn a lot, and i love every content in every episode. i've known montessori method when my child is still an infant but didnt apply it right away, now my daughter is 2yo. i've been applying montessori method since she's 1year plus, it has been great and i leaarnnn so many things along the way especially to better myself as a parent. and it's very true, we have to read a lot, like A LOT. with podcast like this i actually benefit a lot from it, with so many perspective from different prominent guests really open my eyes that to make it montessori it doesnt necessarily one way, it can be delivered in many ways too depending on the uniqueness of our kids. thank you for brighting up my days. i'm looking forward for more contents like this. thanks Jesse. Love, from Malaysia.

It is sad. It’s sad when the powers that be (districts, superintendents, principals, board members, Depts of education) get stuck in a traditional education rut because it’s easier to keep going with a system founded on the “efficient” factory model of doing things. It will take courageous, bold voices to change the way education is implemented in our country and it starts with us. I work in a public school and have the only Montessori classroom in the school and entire district. The reason it is there is because the district did not want to give away public funds to an individual wanting to start a Montessori charter school within the district. So they asked the only AMI trained Montessori teacher (who was working as a traditional teacher) within the district to start one Montessori classroom. It took one person asking to start a Montessori school to get a Montessori class within a public setting. That classroom is still there, and I am the current teacher. I have tried to grow it, but hit dead ends with the principals. I am wanting to push to expand it and will do that next year

I don’t know.. I kinda want my 5 year old to learn his colors, numbers, letters. I really don’t care if he can go down town on the sub way. I kinda want my to have high SATs, take AP classes, maybe take trig in high school. Starting freshman year knowing how to fold laundry, but possibly being illiterate, or not being knowing your times table. Seem sad. But i guess that world theses days.

Well, to be able to realistically compare if Montessori works, it would have to be comparable. Parents who can afford it are of higher SES, having above-average education themselves, having better jobs, less social problems, safer neighborhood, and most probably higher IQ in their genes to start with, compared with average comparable population. Also, a kid in such environment will be surrounded by talented kids more and by problematics kids less (only because the parents are rich). This is not a results of a Montessori system. Second, It would be comparable only with schools where teachers are paid the same, and where there is same few kids per class. Unfortunately most of the comparative studies come from the US, where any education is disastrous, and the public one is pure Hiroshima. Want to see pros and cons - compare academic results of students on universities or when applying for jobs (coz that's where education matters) after Montessori, and after a classic school of similar monthly cost. Or maybe even better - ask some Hiring HR/Personalist/Headhunter what is his experience with applicants with Montessori education, on average. Third - I do not like abundance of competitiveness, but I was in a very hard school, and I wanted to be better than other kids, I wanted good grades, I was given tasks and workload surely bigger and more difficult I would have ever asked for myself as a kid, but the drill worked. Take a look at sports - no elite athlete was ever trained only on the basis of complete voluntariness. The harder the coach or teacher is, the better results are. Also, kids have to get used to do tasks they do not enjoy that much, because that's ow life is.

They have been listening to both languages(Greek & English) since they were born. I NEVER explained anything regarding grammar and when the time came, they were able to understand grammatical phenomena effortlessly!!!
