Clift was considered one of the better actors of his day. Today he is largely forgotten.

Thank you for this. Clift, in my opinion is the greatest male talent to ever appear in front of a movie camera.

I know it doesn't make me special in any way, but I've always been proud to say that Montgomery Clift was my great uncle. So I know I'm biased, but he really was a tremendous actor... a real _"movie star"_ in the truest sense of the term. Not only that but he was also a true _'gentleman'_ as well as being a gentle man if you know what I mean? Yes, he became an alcoholic following his accident, and was hooked on prescribed, morphine-based pain killers for a short period. However in the bigger picture of things (so to speak), he was treated appallingly by the likes of MGM, Warner Brothers, and the other big studios of the time. The same goes for Marlon Brando too. What the big movie companies couldn't tolerate in both of these fine and exceptional actors, was that they just came right out and said what they felt when being interviewed, rather than saying nothing, and allowing the big Hollywood PR machine to sugar-coat everything to the press. Monty and Marlon were two loose canons as far as as studio heads were concerned. They were just too open and too honest with their fans, the press and the public, and the studio heads refused to tolerate such _'crimes'._ As a result, the movie careers of both these men were intentionally side-lined. Pretty disgusting really. At least in my subjective opinion anyway. Thanks for reading and stay healthy folks.

How do you feel about that documentary Making Montgomery Clift
@ljdmanxfella5793
@ljdmanxfella5793 3 жыл бұрын
@@musicalgenius02 In all honesty, I feel kind of numb towards that documentary, None of Monty's family even recognise the person that the documentary portrays. It seems to be 5% fact, 15% _artistic license,_ and 80% fiction. As a result, it shouldn't really be called a _"documentary",_ as that suggests it's all factual. There has really only ever been one realistic, accurate and factual documentary about Monty to date, as far as his family are concerned, and that was by an Italian film maker called Claudio Masenza, entitled _"Hollywood - The Rebels"._ Because it was produced by someone who actually knew Monty very well, along with family members, and friends, and Hollywood artists/people who knew him as a man, and not as a Hollywood star or celebrity. They knew the nitty gritty! And in my opinion, that's what a true documentary should be.

@@ljdmanxfella5793 Your comment has confused me. The documentary was from the family perspective, and how the family tried to fix his name after several biographies had created false narratives. it seems weird to me that you said the family doesn't like that documentary, when it was showing the families perspective.

Wow! I really want to talk to you. I'm a film director and I was set to direct the remake of A PLACE IN THE SUN back in 1996 with Robert Downey Jr set to star. However the project was shelved when Downey got arrested. The film, however, is in development on IMDB as DEEP IN THE HEART

Monty got a raw deal! Such a talented & tormented man. Sadly, 50's society was so difficult for him. Monty we miss you!

This really surprised me - Monty Clift here is happily assuming the role of an erudite and clubbable Englishman. He is doing a most excellent job of it too - 'That's Montgomery Clift, Honey!' -

In those times, an interview was presented more as a conversation. Hy did a beautiful job here and was one of the premiere showbiz interviewers around.

Hy Gardner seems to be completely unaware that people watch interviews in order to listen to the guest, not the interviewer, and that the interviewer's job is to draw out the guest, not pontificate to him.

It's a shame that Monty didn't have the freedom to be who he was, re his sexuality . And if he had stayed over night, the car accident may not have happened. The people who ran the studios only cared about making money and not the stars. But I do still prefer the stars of yesteryear's, than the newbies today.😍

If Hy is going to use a word like timbre, he ought not pronounce it as timber.

I know you need to protect your property, but I did not watch this interview because of the intrusive "property of Marilyn Gardner" on screen. I hope you can find a better way.

I'm watching it, because I adore this guy, but you're so right. It should have been put in the corner of the screen. However "Marilyn" is related to Hy Gardner, she did him and Monty a disservice by plastering her name across the screen.

Sean Michael Maybe, Sean. But there is lots of other great stuff that I can go to with a click of the mouse. But he's lost me forever, or as long as that copyright claim is posted right in the center of the screen.

Thats a very false narrative, he was just about to shoot another movie with Taylor and was exited about it. Everybody should watch "making Montgomery Clift" it debunks the narrative the media went with
