Montgomery Ward Loss Prevention training video for new employees, complete with bad acting.

My first video camera (a Christmas gift) was from Montgomery Ward, but thank People-Jesus I was blissfully unaware of that fact until 15 years AFTER the camera had gone to be with Electro-Jesus. Had I known it had come from that awful, evil, demonic and shitty-named store, I would have destroyed it on the spot, but amazingly it lasted 10 years and produced many high quality VHS memories. Still, I hate Montgomery Ward even more than I hate Circuit City, and Lord knowsI hate me some Circuit City. I’m a filthy atheist, but not a day goes by that I don’t thank God that both those store are dead, out of business and burning in the fiery pits of Hell and Eternal Damnation forever and ever...along with all the thieves who stole their worthless garbage merchandise!

Worked for Monkey awards in the late 1980s, my boss in the shipping receiving dept. got busted in a huge electronics theft ring. He was rolling big screen TVs and stereos out the back doors. Made all of us receiving/warehouse guys get interviewed by LP and the cops. What a pain in the ass.

A buddy of mine worked at Brendles. He told me there was rampant employee theft at his store, mostly receivers, car stereos, and VCRs. The stockroom crew would put stuff in the dumpster and then get it after closing. Mngt found out and got the cops to catch them in the act. I loved Brendles.

Before Christmas 1979, we were in a Ward's store buying some outdoor lights. We paid for them and were walking toward the exit. In front of us by maybe 40 feet was a family, as they approached the door they were stopped by loss prevention, apparently one of their teenage kids had boosted something. They were hustled away from the door and we left the store, I would imagine that they likely prosecuted as they should have. Back in those days, I'd always try to spot who the loss prevention people were, it wasn't terribly hard, they frequently concealed their radios in bags wrapped around the radios, someone talking into a bag was fairly noticeable.

I don't get it. I don't think in real life shoplifters just go "All right" and walk with a small woman into the office. There is no way that big guy would actually stop and go with her. "Don't make this harder than it needs to be." What would she do? Grab him and handcuff him? I doubt she could. Most shoplifters fight back and it is dangerous. Why are these videos always so unrealistic? Honestly they are literally at the door. All they have to do is run out. No shoplifter would ever do what this video shows them doing.
@JoeEnos2 жыл бұрын
Yep, I’d expect the same - but I never saw this kind of thing in real life, so I don’t know. I would hope that the actual Loss Prevention training actually teaches how to handle those kinds of situations safely.

@@MaharlikaAWA I work Lodging Security as a Loss Prevention Agent. Smackdab in the Downtown Area. The Difference being is that Retail Loss Prevention has more liability on the Officer than the Store itself whereas in Lodging Security, the HOTEL's Liability is far Higher, so as a LPO, I have to make instinctal Decisions and Dictate in each situation based mainly on how much an incident would affect the property and the Guests. In Retail, its more about how to Draw Attention to the Shoplifter in the act, basically, if others catch someone committing Grand Larcency, they gonna Snitch because it garners them attention. This Dated ass 1993 Video is Condescending and Patronizing. IRL, especially in 1993, the Big Guy would be straight up told "Local Authorities will be notified and contacted sir if you don't comply", if he makes an ass of himself, it'll draw attention and cause bystanders to willingly turn him in. And No, she cannot Handcuff. Loss Prevention are NOT Allowed to Handcuff or Hold someone in Contempt, that's LAW ENFORCEMENT. When it gets to a point, we Generally have Law Enforcement Contacted.
