Hamilton was a winner from the age of 5 when he came second in the National remote control racing championships in Britain. That was against ADULTS !!! He started Karting at age 8 and pretty much dominated the sport. By the age of 12, his driving skill was high enough that Ladbrokes took a bet, at 40/1 odds, that Hamilton would win a Formula One Grand Prix race before the age of 23. 6 world championships and he hasn't even peaked yet. Christ knows how many titles the man will have before he retires. He is not an OK driver. He is not an also-ran like Montaya was. He has always been a winner and will go down in Motor racing history as the best driver of his generation and one of the best of all time. ..and I'm not even a Hamilton fan, just a Formula 1 fan who knows excellence when he sees it.

@BPJ . True,, Schumacher, Michael, was quite a realistic man. He deserved to be a bit arrogant as it was him putting in the hard work to build relationships and pounding in the laps in testing from which to develop the car etc, and it paid off. He simply didn't inherit a team or set of rules that benefited him without the input ordinarily necessary. He , also to his credit , claimed the car ultimately responsible for his achievements,,, that was also a sign of the GOAT's modesty.

@@peteharmony6024Definitely Michael just being modest. Ralf had his moments, but Michael was definitely faster on a consistent basis. Despite Montoya's interview, which while true is a little ironic considering he only spent time in top teams at F1, Michael made magic in machinery that wasn't the best.

@GT012345tube You are right. The Red Bull was still finding its feet in the late 2000s, excluding 2009. It was in 2009 that Newey capitalized on the aero changes to create an excellent race car. Arguably the best F1 car of 2009, since Brawn tailed off in performance near the end of the season. Then again, really missed seeing Montoya. I believe he could've stayed a little longer, but ultimately he made the decision to quit. He rejected F1 before it rejected him.

Raikkonen was faster than anybody in the early 2000's. Very different to Kimi of today. Montoya was absolutely aware of this and quit because he knew it was over with Kimi or Fernando in the team. Still a good driver, but its sad to see how JPM has to be so defensive of his McLaren days. He only won Monza and Silverstone because Kimi had a 10 place penalty. Ralf? Ralf was fast but ridiculously inconsistent. Michael and Kimi are rock solid mentally. So I do not totally agree this generalization.

That tyre regulation change due to the "spirit of the rules" was complete bullshit. The tires passed all the inspections and pre race homologations! Why couldn't they wait for the next season to make the rule clarification? I'll tell you why: the massive pressure ferrari put on FIA crying for ages. They were just sad the bridgestone monopoly they created was not the best anymore for them! It was total bullshit and I was really salty about that one as a kid, and still am to this day!

i always loved the guy. as a Schumacher "fan" (im 33 so it would be childish to say im still a big fan like a kid:D) i always loved those people who could push Michael to his limits, because in those times I had the chance to see Schumacher's real skills , when he had to drive at his maximum, and that was always incredible to see. So thank you Juan, you did a great job , you gave me a lot of great memories.

I started watching F1 in 2001 (I was 9 year sold). I chose Montoya to be my favourite immediately. I was a huge fan (like literally crying when his engines blew up). :D Now I'm a Hamilton fan, but ofc. it's not that important to me now. I had a few actual dreams that Montoya comes back and I have to decide who I want to support... :D Nvm.. both were / are awesome drivers with a lot of haters. :)

an honest and good opinion of current drivers but will never get a job with SKY as he dose not think Hamilton is the greatest driver in the universe and someone who invented the wheel.

Lord Flashanka I dont think he would fit in todays f1 with all the tyre saving etc. but speedwise and personality-wise it would be pretty awesome to have him. I think Max could become a lot like JPM but a lot more successful. Shame JPM didnt last a bit longer

Always have been and still are a big fan of him but I just don't agree with his statement about European drivers being mentally weak. He himself has had several times where he didn't have his emotions under control, even F1 as a whole came into his head to the level where he just gave up on F1 all together. We have also seen several South American drivers who cried their eyes out when their car broke down or something so I just don't see where his statement hold up. Fantastic racing driver though.

Funny he should mention Seb. I thought Seb was the best example of a downward mental spiral following defeat after defeat. Though Lewis had his share of disasters, seb is definitely the guy who takes losing the hardest. Poor guy took it so badly, just going nuts with anger and stress this season. I miss the chill Seb. Ricciardo actually let on from his time ad Seb's teammate that Seb is really emotionally-invested, more than most drivers are, in the sport of F1. We definitely saw his frustration from being a few years in a frontrunning team without wins. Personally, I look forward to the new entrants racing. Hopefully Mclaren, Williams and Force India will be within fighting distance of each other as I want to see Stroll, Vandoorne and Ocon scrapping like mad. It'll be entertaining to watch them grow as drivers as well over the season, like it's been fun watching Max last year.

Lorendrawn to me it seems like for vettel he's just extremely passionate and hates losing more than anyone, and I don't think that's the case for every driver on the grid
