This is a perfect example of a distortion and magnification of an every day social situation. There are trillions of social scenarios that take place all the time that are variances of this comedy sketch. Misunderstandings and miscommunications. The Cheese Shop, The Parrot Sketch..........and so on. "The pallindrome of Bolton is Notlob"
