lmao Whatever character John Cleese would play he would always hit a home run. Whether it be the parrot skit or the spam skit it never fails to make me laugh my head off. Though "Life Of Brian" I would say is one of my favorite Monty Python movies.

Why couldn't you do a sketch about Hitler nowadays?

You could, but many wouldn't get it. Kinda like "the producers" play "springtime for hitler". The reference would click, but the actual joke would just go way over their heads. Rewrite it with saddam hussein, or Osama bin laden, the modern audience would relate more to it, though it would be a bit harder to layer the jokes into the bit like they did here.

Whose Line Is It Anyway (US Drew Carey) took on the Hypocrisy of this with their “Cosby and Hitler” bit. It was for the game “Title Sequence” when the director said no. Then in the next game, Drew joked about the Hypocrisy while the other comedians made jokes. One of my favorites...along with "the deadliest joke" used in the war to beat the nazis...John Cleese portrayal of the S.S. captain that reads the joke was above the best...loved this show and love it even more today...very relevent especially the sketch where the zealot man identifies as Mary,truly ahead of its time.

The fact that I have to explain this to you makes me wonder if you had extreme trauma, or a cultural upbringing that doesn't support a model for this type of humor. @annebeck58 is only rightfully concerned that others' culture and perspective will mistake this for something other than it is--mockery. Anne seems concerned that this mockery of Hitler will be banned because someone took offense to it, whether they understood it(and they don't like Hitler being mocked), or they didn't understand it(and reel at the mention of human lampshades). The very idea is that Hitler is a repulsive clown and the tremendous juxtaposition of civility edges this satire into a poignant warning whilst lampooning a fear. The only concern is that Hitler was no clown. He was a serious threat. Nevertheless, poking fun at an enemy can deflate their attempts at intimidation. Good luck with your life and thank you for sharing your perspective.

Exactly. Their skits and jokes didn't always make me laugh but half the fun was the journey and never knowing where they were going to go. And when a skit did succeed it usually did so brilliantly.
