I do not own any of this material it's all courtesy of Monty Python at / montypython .
I only upload these videos because i'm tired of all the shitty quality ones on youtube.

It is really annoying when series try to use modern words, but Monty Python was the one that associated "spam" with a high amount of similar messages. I love Monty Python.

Once the vaunted writers have made the words we use Now there are writers given vaunted material to heap upon fed words and ideas that once the movies will go to the public those fads have disappeared from our minds and their use will most likely cause us to cringe in confusion and disgust at how someone could so wholly miss their point

I read that this was in response to how England had been pretty much living on Spam since World War Two due to the privation necessary to fight the war and how they pretty much had to export everything to generate tax revenue to pay the wartime debts afterwards, including the vaunted English beef.

The same thing happened to the American soldiers, who had to deal with SPAM being a frequent component of their rations. Eventually they got so sick of SPAM that they started trading it away to the natives of wherever they were stationed in exchange for just about anything else. The natives had a tendency to go nuts for the stuff, because meat in general was traditionally a sometimes food for them, and heavily processed food was something they’d never had before. This is why SPAM is the bottom of the Hawaiian Food Pyramid; the entire archipelago got addicted to spiced pork shoulder and ham pate.

I lived in Bromley back when this was first broadcast and felt a surge of “pride” when the suburbs name came up in the link before this sketch. But to my knowledge no Green Midget cafe existed then or now. I wonder if it’s based on anything or just nonsense?

@@huwevans2000 I have a feeling it was made up. Doubt they'd get away with calling a café 'Green Midget' these days. BUT it is where the tech term 'spam' originated, as in 'spam email'. Another claim to fame for Bromley.

The funniest part of the sketch is the first two items she mentions doesn’t have any spam in it. “We’ll there’s eggs and bacon. Eggs sausage and bacon”

I saw on another person’s comment that they read somewhere that the second menu item was supposed to have spam in it but Terry Jones forgot to say it. But I don’t think that’s true. I think it was intentional to leave it out because I do find it funnier that Chapman’s character is so annoyed with all the items with spam that his character didn’t realize the two spam-less menu items.

I loved Monty Python. I always found it curious that a popular British program chose a decidedly American march as its theme song, "The Liberty Bell" by John Philip Sousa. The bell itself and the march were in celebration of America's emancipation from British rule -- victory in the war for independence. Python's creators selected a theme song celebrating England's defeat. Seems odd to me, or perhaps just more of the irony so prominent in the program's comedy?

Actually i don't earn any money generated from these videos since when i upload it i have to accept that Monty Python can and will use adverts on my Monty Python videos so they will stay up, the sound is terrible because my microphone was plugged in and it does all the noisy sound. Shall i explain it to you? During World war 2, food in england was in short supply, they were bleedin' starvin'. The Americans graciously shipped them untold tons of a canned pork product called Spam. By war's end, there was a universal loathing of Spam, but you think that was the end of it? Noooo! Food shortages after victory meant they ate more Spam... understand!? Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam AND MORE SPAM... I DON'T LIKE SPAM! It's an English thing.
