To give a sharper focus on their humor, Terry Jones's red "Speedo" style underpants just caps the moment. The humor was so constructed that it doesn't get stale. No dated punch lines, just really funny writing. I'm glad to see Terry Gilliam in the mix at this point as well.

I grew up with these guys, they formed & enhanced my sense of humour, my outlook on this very silly, absurd life we live, I related to them instantly as there offbeat sketches made total sense to me, it will be a very sad day when there are no more of them left. Graham & Terry gone to a sillier & more coherent world I hope....bless 'em all!❤

I am a dyed in the wool Python fan. The Spanish Inquisition is one of the funniest things they ever did. Everything they did was amazing. They pushed the boundaries of Comedy to a whole new level. Modern 'Comedians' cannot even come close to.

It’s still crazy to me that Terry Gilliam was a member of Month Python. Worked with the single greatest comedy group of all time before becoming one of the best directors of his generation. It’s like if Paul McCartney started making movies and they were actually good.

I love when it pans out after Cardinal Biggles fetches the rack, and Graham Chapman’s just sat there smoking a pipe with a vaguely irritated expression on his face.

DIABOLICAL LAUGHTER- this is one of the Inquisition's special moves, where they laugh roughly in unison while lighting the words "diabolical laughter" on the screen just to be certain the audience understands what they're doing.

I play this every time I need an injection of Diabolical Laughter.

This sketch would be nothing without Michael Palin. 0:51-1:15 are pure comedic genius - arguably the funniest 24 seconds of solo comedy in all of TV. There may be plenty of one liners from Carson's guests, or funny 30 minute episodes from the original Newhart show or Seinfeld, but find me 24 seconds of uninterrupted solo comedy that tops this and I'll bow to you. It is Palin's frantic, stuttering, thinking-faster-than-he-can-talk personality that makes this one of the funniest sketches of all time. The way he keeps re-starting his list of Spanish Inquisition characteristics, each time adding a new attribute, is hilarious. It is also IMO something only Michael Palin could deliver. Palin, Chapman and Idle have always been my favorites from the show. If I had to pick one over the others, I'd probably go with Palin. I'm sure other fans have their favorites and that's OK. But Palin is, well, Palin. There will never be another. I love him!!!! I always thought it an on stage accident when the rack fell down, turning 90 degrees clockwise as they first attached it to Carol. It certainly would have fit her best had it remained in position as installed at 3:26 ;-)
