She was disguisted in Rhaenyra's presumed behaviour regardless with whom she behaved that way, but the fact that it was Daemon made it worse not necessarely because he was her uncle, but because of him being...Daemon. She was upset about Rhaenyra sleeping with Cole as well, but more so because Rhaenyra lied about her virtue.

The issue with Daemon and Rhaenyra was wholly Daemon, not their relationship. Viserys felt he was just using Rhaenyra to get to the throne. Everyone else felt more or less the same, but they were concerned for the throne itself, Viserys was more upset that Daemon was using Rhaenyra’s feelings for him against her and her father. If Daemon hadn’t been an aggressive wildcard Viserys might have given the match consideration.

Rhaenys tried to open her eyes. Alicent knew that she only married Viserys so that her house can come to power. She didn't love him and it was always some kind of duty to her. She knew the consequences of making Aegon king but and in some way she didn't wanted to do it. She did it to give her sacrifice of her own happiness some meaning and did it under the cover of "the kings dying wish". She interpreted his last words completely wrong because she had no idea of the prophecy and in the end it was the only reason why she married the king in the first place. It was like she's been waiting for that moment all these years. Very unfortunate how everything played out for her.

They break into Alicent’s chambers where Helaena usually brought her children before they went to bed. The 2 men make Helaena choose which of her sons will die, and after they refuse to accept her offer of her own life, she reluctantly names her younger son since he’s too young to understand what’s happening. The 2 men then behead her older son (who’s like 6 at this time) and leave with his head. SPOILER OVER. I really don’t think they’ll make it that gruesome in the show, because it’s basically impossible to put something like that to film without being distasteful and putting off the audience.

Even then, their thoughts went straight to the war cause they lost a dragonrider and the baby was given to Alicent to raise. The only part of the books where someone shows her mercy was ironically Aegon for a glimpse of a second because he felt guilty. Allegedly, her first tragedy in the show will be used as a political ploy in an effort to turn the public against Rhaenyra but fails. I guess we'll see.

I always felt like so much of Helaena’s torments and sadness came from knowing and speaking EXACTLY what was going to happen but being ignored and written off as strange/crazy. 😢

@@mammamonssterr Alicent is a victim despite having the power. And she feels that sacrifice has to be appreciated. She has the luxury of choices many of her female peers didn't have. Still she chooses to bear children of a man she doesn't like and gives sexual pleasure to someone dangerous like Larys. It just shows how easily she can be manipulated. Rhanaeyra has N number of faults but she at least has the grace to own it. It is her choice. She chose to love someone out of wedlock and found a man who loved her kids even though he wasn't the father officially. Allicent hates her for that. Even the manipulation of Viserys's last words is a sign of her desperation for relevance. He was drugged heavily and said something, and she claims that should be taken more seriously than an official statement made when he was fully conscious. How convenient. Even if he didn't say that, she would just do the same when her father scares her. And come on, jumping in front of a dragon to protect your kid is something a parent would do. But just because you wouldn't let them die, doesn't mean you love someone. Rhanaeyra empowered her kids, raised them as a family, without teaching them to hate. If she loved Aegon she should not have let him be the King. If she was a good ruler she would not have done that. I don't hate Alicent. But I think she is a weak person who doesn't have the skill or temperament to rule.

I think she does in fact love her children and tries to be a good mother in the best way she knows how, but… she also had the misfortune of having almost the literal WORLD’S WORST EXAMPLE to look up to with Otto as a father. Like let’s not forget that Otto is the guy who pushed his 15-17 year old daughter into the king’s bedroom wearing one of her mother’s dresses when the man’s wife had just barely had her funeral, so. There’s that. In my mind she was never shown true warmth and unconditional love as a child so she doesn’t know how to give that to a child.

@@simonemeekins8389 That's a valid point. Otto feels no guilt or shame in manipulating his daughter. He is so selfish. Viserys was capable of loving. It was selfish of him to operate his wife and disown his brother, but he regrets them and tries to make amends. The act of climbing to the throne with such a weak body to defend his daughter - that alone shows his love for her. His wish to have a normal family dinner is another example. Sadly, Allicent didn't have that sort of upbringing. Her father never instilled confidence or love her unconditionally.

Rather than alicent blame was on viserys. He didn't pay attention to his male heirs. He was absolutely terrible father and worst king.

The drama was about Rhaenyra having extramarital affairs and being seen in the brothel..which is unbecoming of a noble woman, let alone a future queen. Her way of life finally resulted in the 3 Strong Boys, which argubaly is the main reason the Greens used to justify the seizure of power.

I think the idea was that Rhaenyra wanted an alliance that brings reconciliation between the Blacks and the Greens so that she and Alicent can be reconciled, her claim can be unchallenged, and the realm can be safe. There was also a part that this could bring legitimacy to her sons. And Alicent absolutely snubbed her because everyone in their heart and mind knew Rhaenyra’s three eldest sons were in fact born out of wedlock. So to Alicent and probably to many Westerosi people, Helaena was undeniably a true Targaryen royal princess. She had the power of dreams and prophecies, was a dragonrider, and was beloved by the small folks as well. But all of Rhaenyra’s children at the time were really illegitimate and should have been nothing more than any of the Targaryen bastards by previous royalties. I felt like if Rhaenyra’s children were actually legitimate royal princes, Alicent might have actually considered it. At the time the Blacks were strong to an unimaginable degree compared to the Greens on firepower. They had three solid adult dragonriders: Rhaenyra, Rhaenys, and Laenor. They had two younger dragonriders who were growing up: Jacaerys and Lucerys. They had potential and likely allies in Daemon and Laena. Daemon hates Otto/House Hightower, is obsessed with Rhaenyra, and loves war. Laena is born a Velaryon; she is close to Rhaenyra; she is Daemon’s wife. This counts two additional adult dragonriders, with Vhagar being the largest dragon ever. Their daughter Baela was a young dragonrider who was growing up. This totals up to five adult dragons and three young dragons already. And all three battle-tested dragons were in Black’s camp. The Greens at the time only had Aegon and Helaena, and Helaena is probably not too keen on fighting. This was a very tilted power dynamic.

Yeah except Rhaenyra’s son isn’t a total psycho, and to be honest I kind of blame Alicent for how Aegon turned out. Clearly the kid never got any love or attention from either of his parents, and I’m more inclined to give ol Visy a pass due to him being both king and having super cancer. In addition Rhaenyra’s alliance would have ended the feud, whilst Alicent’s marriage between Aegon and Helena brings in no new allies, and is very clearly designed as a f**k you to Rhaenyra’s offer. I mean Christ it’s announced like a week after Rhaenyra makes the offer.

And since Viserys was clearly in favor of such a proposal, she needed an alternative quick to fix the solution. Well Viserys obviously didn’t want Aegon to be King, why would he be thinking about Helaena as Queen? Also the Tyrells knew Joffrey was a bastard but still married Margaery to him because of the status she would receive as Queen. Jacaerys was claimed by Laenor as his legitimate son, regardless that he wasn’t. This makes him very different to Jon Snow in that regard, who Ned had publicly stated was his bastard.

@@hi-ls6lt alright a few things: Joffrey was crowned king. He was already a king, becahse when he was crowned, no one knew he was a bastard. He was already King when the Tyrells proposed marriage so that Margaery would be queen. If he was only the heir but known to have been a bastard, Olenna would’ve never allowed it. Jace cannot be “claimed” legitimate when his mother, nor the king will admit he’s a bastard in the first place. So Laenor calling Jace his son in public, has as much impact as Robert referring to Joffrey as his son. Joffrey they could pass off as being legitimate and keep rumour at bay because Cersei also had blonde hair. Rhaenyra has white hair, Laenor has white hair, both Jace’s “grandparents” have white hair, he had brown hair… you can’t pass him off as legitimate because he doesn’t look anything like his parents. Everyone knows he’s a bastard and will forever remain a bastard because once again Rhaenyra cannot crown an already “legitimate son” legitimate because she would have to admit he was a bastard first. So again, Laenor claiming Jace as his son has no impact. Joffrey looked like his mother, Jon was publicly declared a bastard, but Jace looks nothing like Rhaenyra or Laenor, but is stated to be legitimate. Viserys did want Aegon to be king when he was first born. He dreamed about it and told Alicent in like episode 3? (The one with the big hunt, the white stag, and the big fire for aegons birthday) he cried about it, out of guilt. He felt that he is responsible for Rhaenyra’s moms death, and crowned her heir to make up for it, becahse he never thought he would have a son, but now he realises that the dream was about Aegon.

Rhaenyra suggested a betrothal between Jace & Haelena. Alicent didn’t want her children marrying any of Rhaenyra’s so in true Targaryen’s fashion she had them marry each other. That was my take anyway.
