If anything, if its not an AI or algorithm upscaling, it might just be the original camera shot. If this makes sense, that even with older equipment, they could still capture more detail and resolution than anyone could see with the consumer electronics back then. (I think...)

The quality is better, as it's from the Bluray version of Moonwalker in 1080p. Would be nice if they did a 4K release too, although since it was recorded on film it might not capture enough detail for 4K.

Sadly it was edited using "complex" linear editing. Original tapes were probably lost and we are only left with master tape that looks like the way it looks

Crazy how the production of this is in pretty much every conceivable way better than big artists today. Imagine how much time and energy this took to make compared to music videos/music of today. Not only that, Michael was one of the very first ones to do it, so not only is it bigger and better, he was creating this all from his head without taking from decades of inspiration. To say "they don't make 'em like they used to" is a massive understatement.
