This is so amazing to learn. As a writer working on a couple of YA furry stories aimed at escapism and acceptance, this just reinvigorates the passion I have for writing them.

Little My is best girl. Cynical and grumpy but kind and accepting. Snuffkin's half-sister who loves him but doesn't put up with his guff. I love her.

oh man, it's been awhile since i got to catch one of y'all's videos! and i'm SO glad this is the one i got to see; i love moomin so much and only discovered the series a handful of years ago. this was an amazing video on it honestly, really exemplified so much. i've seen such reductive takes about this series over the years unfortunately, and only learned tove herself was bisexual from this video! every time i saw her sexuality mentioned in the past, people would just call her a lesbian and refuse to elaborate; unfortunately common erasure tactic i guess. but anyway, i love this video so much. absolutely sending it to my friends!

I never saw Moomin and Snufkin as a couple (probably because Snufkin seems so much older than him) but those two girls that were hiding from the Groke are definitely confirmed to be a lesbian couple. It's sad how only Disney stuff that's super old sticks around for so long, and Moomins kind of becomes forgotten. (There was a time when Disney tried to buy rights to the Moomins, but Tove wouldn't let him because she was a tough lesbian). I myself am straight but I support LGBTQ. And for LGBTQ people, don't you guys agree that til this day, Moomins has better representation than Disney? I mean, in 2023 they sneak a short hair character in the background and are like "Oooh we have a new non-binary character!" when literally the character has no importance to the movie and if you blink, you miss them! Meanwhile, Moomins had more LGBT representation in the 1940s, when it was definitely illegal and you could even be sentenced to death for it, unfortunately! Idk how Tove got away with all that (probably because in Finland they were more accepting and had more to worry about) but she was so ahead of her time!

Disney doesn't even try unless an actually queer creator comes on and takes the reins. Tove, meanwhile, gave us a subtle daydream that was uncensored by Finnish officials, ideally from acceptance, likely from indifference.

I don't mind people shipping snufkin and moomin as the characters are based on tove herself and her fiance and their "longing" dynamic but also I don't mind people viewing them as more brotherly. While their ages aren’t confirmed, it's widely accepted, at least in finland that both snufkin and moomin are around the same age, snufkin being the older one. The original voice actor for moomin in finnish and swedish has a much lower and mature voice.

I don't really pay attention to the queer part of the Moomins. I see all of them as besties going on adventures and having fun. Yes, there's definately a queer aspect, although I see more a bisexual aspect than that of poly, but I don't neccisarrily pay attention to that part.

Here in Norway no one thinks of them as hippos at all. I've always thought about them as their name mummitroll or "mummytroll", not a hippo.

Oh, right. But how old are they? I know it's canon that Moomintroll lived on his own for a while, but so did Ash Ketchum and I'm not sure how to interpret that-
