MOON GUNDAM, written by Harutoshi Fukui, is taking all of Tomino's works and by threading in the gap years of Universal Century it's managing to weave a cohesive story that will culminate in the celebration of UC 100. How you're asking? Well, by connecting the dots with the wisdom of hindsight.
So my friends, I'm Absa, and in this video I'm going to explore the first volume of Moon Gundam and some of the major events of future volumes. I'll also talk about how the story introduces new mobile suits, new factions and even more newtypes; even though we know that it doesn't matter what happens, it needs to leave things almost, if not exactly untouched for Char's Counterattack to happen.

@@justincholos.balisang6884 People want side stories that don't fill plot holes because "plot hole = bad", but also tell something new, that doesn't impact the "main series". Basically, its an impossible dilemma.

Is this comment bandai paid? Cause the entire manga til now isn't cohesive at all with others work. See msvr. That's what we called kino and cohesive. Moon gundam is just how to replace old plot holes with a bigger one. Don't mistake me, it's fun and all but that is only from a perspective that we dismiss all politic in story.

I think the main thing that separates Moon and Thunderbolt (my favourite manga EVER) is that Ohtagaki clearly isn't allowed or doesn't want to use any characters from the mainline Gundam series, which is responsible for a lot of Thunderbolt's disconnection from UC canon. Fukui, meanwhile, embraces and develops characters like Amuro in the story, which results in the world feeling much more whole.

It makes sense though, and personally I feel it works out better. Space is a big place. Loads of things are happening off screen. Some of which is hinted at and directly intertwines with "the main story we get dragged along with. Some thing happen in their own corner and may not necessarily have a rippling affect over thing overall. I think it's wonderful.

@@MaddJakdcompletely agree with this. I love little things that link back to the "main story" as the original commenter said but a real fleshed out world has multiple things going on that have nothing to do with each other and it just makes the setting so much more interesting

i like how Thunderbolt became its own thing. The cult stuff is a really clever twist on the cliche of the protagionist finding a newtype who tempts him to develop his own powers and go on an adventure, with that newtype instead being a genocidal cult leader preying upon wounded and betrayed soldiers. That kind of story could never be done in the established canon

After going back and watching everything in chronological order from 0079 to CCA I think moon Gundam has the opportunity to not just be that bridge from zz to cca but actually fill out cca given that the movies runtime. I always wished there was more to cca and moon has the ability to be that more

Not that I don't care for the story. But getting to know that Moon Gundam is basically a Gurren Lagann is really funny. Psycho Gundam MKIV G-Doors head attaches itself onto the body of the Varguil ala Gurren Lagann style.

Maybe cuz she’s the heiress of the Zabi Dynasty that made Zeon and started the One Year War. It’s easy to see why she’s a recurring character in the Universal Century.

For me, Beltorchika's Children should have been the focus and not Char's Counterattack. It seemed like A New Narrative was going to take that direction or not take the depressing route. I don't think having a story squeeze inbetween yet go unmentioned at the same time in order to fit things together is masterful, it is what it is. Filling holes in where it at least won't touch what is established, which could just beg why such events were never mentioned. If a story just doesn't fit right because things weren't thought of, you just have to accept that, but maybe it works. Just...you run the chance of creating another plot hole while trying to fix a past issue that's been established but can't be changed. It seems fruitless if not pointless with the purpose only being perceived cohesion.

The detractors complaining about "too much space magic" aren't truly into Gundam. If they were, they would have seen the clear plot threads from the very beginning leading to what a Newtype really is. It was always meant to be way more than just "mild psychic-esq" sprinklings over the "hard core, grounded 'real' war" stuff Combined with high technology, the type of which literally can't be made on Earth (something we are running into in the real world now) things that appear like magic are a guarantee.

You should read Tomino’s interviews on Turn A Gundam or watch the movie Hathaway’s Flash. Tomino purposefully shrunk the narrative importance of New Types in everything he did after CCA.
