As they say 3 is the Magic Number and I think the third episode of Moon Knight is probably my favourite MCU entry so far. I absolutely loved the trip through Egypt and it ends on a cliffhanger that has a lot to unpack from it. Throughout this video we're gonna be breaking it all down as there's a massive amount of easter eggs, hidden details, nods to other movies and things you missed.

With that out the way, thanks for clicking this, now let's get into Moon Knight Episode 3 Punk.
Now we begin with Layla picking up a passport from an old friend. Desperate to catch up with Marc she's had to take the long way round and fly there whereas we saw last week that there was somewhat of a jump from London. I did think that Marc also flew out there and there was certainly a gap in time that we weren't privvy to due to him being splashed out on the bed looking like he's had a long night of watching Morbius.
Steven was in the mirror and we sort of saw from his perspective how we went from one place to the in a second flat like he got an apartment aboard.
Second flat, apartment abroad your mums a broad goddamn I'm nice.
However in this episode we learn that there are passages that the gods have access to that can allow you to get around faster than we upload breakdowns. Though Khonshu says the Ennead tend to do this, having this ability would explain why Layla is a bit behind him and having to get a passport quickly.
The person carrying them out clearly knows who Marc is and as we saw last episode he had a passport in a lockup, potentially also being made by this woman. The guy has got lots of secret identities and Steven would need a form of ID to get a job so potentially Marc ended up going to her to get one created for him. In this episode we get a very big hint towards Jake Lockley being part of the show and incase you don't know, this is a third personality that we haven't been introduced to in the series yet.

Hope not be a good story if it weren’t by khonshus hands. But by trauma, and I’d be stoked if this body in fact belongs to Steven, and Marc is his second personality.

It seems the only one who can forcefully take over the body is "Jake". If you think about it, Marc and Steven are constantly arguing with each other about gaining control, seemingly being trapped helplessly if one or the other doesn't allow it. But whenever he blacks out, he comes to in the aftermath of extreme violence. I think that was Jake in the first ep that was taking the soldiers out and the one who set the date.

I like the idea that Jake is the persona that’s been keeping himself secret. With Marc and Steven at odds and learning to trust one another, it’s probably easier for Jake to slip under the radar. Fits with his comic book origin of being secretive.

@@hiddendagger7291 most people including murderers have their sense of justified reasons and believes as well as morals and humanity. Some may kill a child, other wouldn't. Same with, one would kill a woman while the other wouldn't. Same goes with pregnant women, so you kinda get the moral stuff.

@@hiddendagger7291 Yea it's a question of morality. Maybe to Marc, he's still a kid and could still turn his life around as compared to someone who's an adult who can make decisions for themselves. Let's also not forget that we don't fully know Marc's backstory in the MCU quite yet. He may not be as ruthless as he is in the comics.

I completely agree that Jake is appearing subtle throughout this series. We’ll see more hints of him in the next episode before he’s exposed in episode 5 or 6. I think Jake might be involved with Layla’s father’s murder. He’s always the one Marc goes to when he does more evil things.

Yea see they are hinting him. No where in the episodes has he shown up at all and people think he did. Steven: "why did you kill them"(or however he put it Marc: it wasn't me. That's the biggest hint there. That or that is Konshu taking over. And they say Marcs voice and looks appear to be different but that's how he talks. He's trying to cover his voice up so no one recognizes him. Atleast that is my explanation for the third episode. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk

Khonshu can only fully take over marcs body during the meeting of the enneads since that's only when the gods are permitted to temporarily take over their avatars body to discuss things. Khonshu can't take over marcs body by force which is why he has been trying to convince Marc to cooperate with him which is why he has been threatening to pick Layla as his next avatar just so Marc can stay loyal to him. Jake has been hinted several times. Every reflection of Steven in the first and second episode shows 3 different reflection indicating his 3 different personalities. Arthur harrow even hinted at the possibility that Marc has more personalities.

@@calebstephan2083 yea but it was Marc in Cairo all along it wasn't jake drinking. He mightve used Jake now becuase I rewatched it with headphones instead of out loud this time and his voice does sound alittle different. But I do see where your going I honestly been to busy to read up on it fully.

Jakes always been the most violent and cruel. They’ve been dropping hints of his presence all along. The two separate reflections in the museum glass, Marc’s face split into 3 in the credits, and it’s was definitely Jake who murdered all those Harrow goons with the scarab in the Alps.

my fav part is when Layla tries to figure out the constellations and needs Steven's help. Marc's transfer to Steven directly with his changing facial expressions and accents is a brilliant technique for me. quite amused by the whole, and as time goes on the conflict expands and becomes intense. best Disney plus series in terms of character development.

I get the feeling like "steven" is the person Marc wishes he could be or maybe even the person he believe his wife deserves. And Jake is the person he'd become if he ever stopped trying to be "steven". There's a balance between good and evil in those two different personalities and Marc is the perfectly imperfect balanced person.

My theory is that when Khonshu chose Marc, he took all the weaknesses he didn't want his Avatar to suffer from. Doubt, anxiety, lack of direction. Things an active Avatar should never suffer from. This becomes Steven so it doesn't affect Marc.

Probably because Steven helped solve the puzzle and also that since Steven wouldn't give the body back to Marc willingly and they needed to know the location of the tomb, his best bet was to have Steven turn back the night before being imprisoned.

@@slycooper8474 The episodes don’t go for an hour each, they usually go 25-30 mins with 7-10 minutes of long ass credits which is included in the overall runtime. Does cost a LOT though. A good thing about them doing mini series’ is that they have a higher budget per episode than they would if there was more episodes.

It depends on how good you can lengthen a story manga-anime can do that 20 ep count because the story is extrapolated over many chapters while tv and movies used definite scripts Remembering back the best show that did 20 plus in la was nbcs grimm granted the actors did great with the characters and they at least had 6-7 eps to the plot of that overall season (arc) which was good before just making the arc go over the entire season like in the last 3 seasons. That's rare though and narrative driven shows don't tend to do one arc they ham-fist two or worse three and don't exactly mesh them its what I heard cw do and if isn't a strong cohesive story that season suffers so I rather maybe an 6, 8 or 12 ep series whether La or animated tell one good story and next season we get whatever else they/we wanted too see later it what keeps the series strong and us coming back to watch more as long as the story content stays good

The first scene we see Marc, he’s actually wearing that black hat as as he passes through the clothes hanging up the hat falls off implying that we went from jake to Marc. It’s interesting that we don’t really get a delay like we do when personalities change between Marc and Steven

I just have to say, Ethan Hawke has been INCREDIBLE as the antagonist in this series. I think he’s my favorite one of the MCU thus far, right next to Zemo and Killmonger, mostly because of the dynamic. He’s not inherently evil in the slightest, his beliefs are just so deep rooted in his own mind that he truly believes what he’s doing it for the good of humanity, and the dedication to his beliefs show in the glass in his shoes(which you can hear any time he’s moving, which is GREAT attention to detail). The ending to this episode showed that Harrow is just as much of a victim to manipulation by his respective god(Ammut) as much as Marc, and now Steven, is to Kohnshu. This episode very much displayed that both sides are willing to take it too far to see their side succeed, with Harrow taking innocent lives, and Jack(who I also believe has been the one causing the blackouts) resorting to killing the followers to get to Harrow. This series has been such a breath of fresh air. It’s great to see the hero act in less heroic ways, and the villain feeling just as, if not more sympathetic at times throughout the series. Jack doesn’t seem to feel remorse for what he does, whereas Harrow genuinely looks full of guilt for the lives he takes, and I think it will come full circle when Harrow helps Amimut rise and they turn on him.

And absurd. What happened? It completely baffles me! Did Konshu and Marc return Earth and Solar System through time and space - to the past? Or was it a temporary insight into a cosmos timeline like a rewind of a movie? Or a godly heavenly hologram? Or did they rewind the events in whole universe for 2000 years? And there were no planetary consequences or attracting the presence of celestials or else? And it was so badly explained - oh wait, it wasn't! So it was cool, but extremely dissapointing!

The transition from Konshu's cloak to the sheets covering the mirror, showing Steven trapped in it, Marc laying down drinking his sorrows, him walking to the window with the little hints of Middle Eastern furniture, and then finally revealing the glory of the pyramids to that singing. What an absolutely fantastic transition. Someone needs a raise for that scene.

This is lowkey the first time I care for the supporting characters. Like Layla isn’t annoying of forgettable. She is equally well-written along with the main protagonist and villain. So basically the character development and writing in Moon Knight beats all current mcu shows

Its definite that he has a third identity as during the fight with the thugs, we were seeing Marc's perspective and when he came back to control of the body, he told Steven that is wasnt him. Steven does not like violence as well and so theres another identity. Cant wait to see more of Moon Knight!

Curious, and it may be a reach… Mirrors reflect an image in much the same way as the moon reflects the sun’s light. As the eyes are described as “mirrors to the soul”, Marc, Steven and Jake’s exchange occurs directly when looking into a reflective surface. This give some credence to each alter having a soul or at least being a distinct piece of a whole. In contrast, Harrow’s connection with glass offers no reflection, gives a facade of transparency that influences others that “see” what they want to see and, facilitates Ammit’s devouring of other’s soul energy. Another interesting episode and another great breakdown. I think Marc and Steven better get control of Jake. He is the only one who doesn't seem concerned about Layla, the fate of the world or anything else for that matter. His IDGAF attitude is probably the one Konshu was referring to in episode 2 when he said, "you enjoy the work I have for you."

I think they were subtly hinting and showing us glimpses of Jake throughout this episode. As you spotted with the slight difference between the accents, i believe when Marc and Layla are in the car and she asks about what Marc is hiding he snaps instantly (the snaping was unlike Marc, so that could be Jake being a dickhead to Layla???) I might be reaching here, but to me that interaction felt so unlike and unusual for Marc and then there is a window shot where we see Marc's/Jake's reflection that further makes me think that it was Jake who snaped at her. I could be wrong, don't quote me on it.

Another interesting easter egg/ theory you might have missed was: During the meeting of the gods, the avatar of Bast the panther god also attended. From black panther, we know that bast was the god that granted wakandans protection and granted the black panther powers. I initially thought that bast's avatar would be T'challa, because of she gave him powers of the black panther, and T'challa was known as Bast's high priest in the comics. But thats impossible right now, since Chadwick Boseman died. So now that im rethinking it, its highly likely that the avatar would be the new high priestess, since the previous one was killed by killmonger. She even has the wakandan accent. Anyways, im sure we'll see more of her and Bast in the upcoming "wakanda forever" movie.

18:30 i don’t think marc was referring to the song that was playing in this part. in arab weddings or celebrations women make sounds called (زغروطه) Zaghrouta to cheer, ululating is the name in english. the women on the boat were doing it so i think he might have been referring to that reminding him of their wedding, just a thought :)

I think you are right about the third personality becoming slowly revealed. W watched the episode in Italian (as I am living in Italy) and even in the dubbed version you can appreciate another accent and tone of voice. Normally I watch the episodes (not only Moon Knight but also the other series and the movies in original language) so I will going to notice it even more. I think we’ve seen Jake Lockley already in this episode - in the car scene he’s got a more New York dialect and also he says how Layla doesn’t know him and how he didn’t know what Harrow said to her because he wasn’t in control. That’s Jake but we just haven’t been introduced properly yet.

@@SAPANNow Its still impressive that he can edit and upload it in like 45 minutes. Even though he sees it earlier, he doesn't have access to the clips he uses until the episode is released. There is a big watermark with his name on it in the version that he watches early, so that he can't upload it early online without Disney/Marvel knowing he broke his NDA. All the other creators who have the same early access as him still take hours to upload so the work and dedication he puts into getting these out so early is remarkable. Definitely my favourite and most respected breakdown channel

We also know now the gods are unsurprisingly full of shit and can't seem to detect when Ammit and Anubis gave Harrow their powers to use and judge people without their direct involvement as he said "a fraction of her power". This is all flowing to me, cause who and what does Ammitt look like? Or do we have to wait another season for her reveal?

You’ll also notice that they moved location when the jump happens from Marc getting knocked out from the goons to when he is killing them first they are in a shop area then they jump to the edge of a cliff with no people around anymore meaning Marc or Jake literally drive those fuckers up there to kill them OR after knocking him out they ran off and Jake or Marc took over probably Jake and chased them to the cliff where he killed them I believe there are two totalled cars there I’m the background to not sure though

Jake has to be British in the show. I know it's different in the comics. This is the case BECAUSE the tour guide was asked out by a guy with the same accent as Steven. That's why she was never confused when Steven was talking to her. Marc has an American accent so we know it wasn't Marc that asked her out. Also notice that both times the tour guide talked to Steven she never mentioned a name. So clearly the show is trying to hide this other personality but gives us hints that it's there because its the only thing that makes sense.

Couldn't khonnshu or marc have told harrow to lift his sleeve to prove his innocence.If he did then wouldn't the gods recognise ammit's tatoo and if he didn't I feel like that would be suspicious enough to warrant an investigation on him which would have also exposed him.I feel like most of this episode was unnecessary.

Here's a couple easter egg I haven't heard anyone else mention. When Harrow is walking in the Ennead chamber to talk to stone Konshu, you can hear the glass in his shoes. And during the credits, there's a sand Dune that is clearly the head of Konshu. Better get on it before that Ryan fellow beats you to it. God Ammit indeed.

I don’t like the implied thought processes of the gods in this episode. They could easily bring other evidence to back up moon knight in the trial. They gotta let the big bad guy enact his plan though. But then I thought about how stupid most gods in mythology are, and so I guess it’s accurate to portray the gods as so flawed.

The use of the names Kennedy and Fitzgerald in my opinion was a nod to the fact that Lee Harvey Oswald may have been a mind controlled multi-personality based assassin. Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested with another drivers license under the name Alek Hidel and the rifle was sent to the same persons P.O. Box. During the assassination people reported meeting multiple types of LHO personalities all over the Dallas area.

It kinda was bugging me how Marc transitioned into Steven so calmly when he needed the star map put together. Up to this point it’s been shown that any switching of Marc into Steven or vice verse is always followed by something dramatic (eyes rolling back, head thrown back, the audio cutting in and out) but this one was so calm and fluid it got me thinking. At first I thought “oh they’re finally aware of each other and they’re not fighting it so ya it would be a calmer transition” but….now that I think about it what if all the swaps we have seen up till this point was Jake taking over? He’s more of the “invader” and we really haven’t seen as much of Marc in these 3 episodes as we think we have. And someone said earlier in the comments that Konshu can’t tell Marc and Jake apart because they’re more similar to each other than Marc and Steven are….just a thought. That would be a huge shocker in episode 4 for a casual viewer who was just watching it at face value. I think the next episode will go back to the times we missed and reveal it was Jake because the thing about this series is once you think you have everything figured out and not tangled up and confused, it just spins the narrative all around again and you have to unravel it once more (which is what I love about this series). Especially if they’re going to reveal that Steven had been a personality since Marc was a child then Marc would be much more comfortable switching back and forth with him. It WOULD be calmer and more fluid like we saw in the desert. Marc seems to be the one picking up the pieces so Steven can live a normal life. He seems protective of him so why would Marc have moments of “oh f**k this guy” like he doesn’t like him? It’s been Jake all along because to Jake, Steven is just a pathetic little man who gets in the way.
