Today we’re reviewing Mooncat’s final collection of the year; My Inner Apocalypse 🤘🏼 this moody lineup consists of 8 shimmery shades, 2 of which are magnetic ⚡️definitely channeling all the emo and angsty vibes with these which I am a huge fan of believe it or not lol i can’t wait to hear what you think of this “EP for existential days,” they’re perfect to capture the moodiness of such a gloomy season ☁️ I really like these & think they are one of the most on brand releases from mooncat yet!

I'd love to see you reorganize the various 2023 Mooncat collections into seasonal collections. I was thinking that Stumped, plus the olive linear would be a perfect fall collection. Pandemonium is a great holiday red etc. Might be a fun way to recap. 😀

that would be so fun!! I kinda already have them organized like that though lol 🙈 but not really, right now I have 2 drawers for mooncat, one is spring/summer and the other is fall/winter, organized by whole collections. But like you mentioned Stumped is def a fall shade so it’s been pissing me off sitting in my spring drawer, so I might have to do a little reorganizing 🤣 BUT I was already thinking of a recap mini series of brands’ 2023 releases… 👀

Moth to a flame is my favorite shade theyve released in a long time. In off light it looks brownish and in sunlight its so embery, and i remember seeing it and going it gives me silent hill vibes for whatever reason.

yeah i really ended up loving that one! such a cool and unique color. OMG i can totally see silent hill vibes!! esp once the siren goes off lol, funny enough I had the thought that ILNP Flicker gave me Silent Hill vibes too and thats the much lighter version of this one! 🩶🔥

I’ve been refreshing my feed waiting for your review! Thanks for your honest opinion and all of the comparisons! I am obsessed with this collection and this is the first MC collection that I have purchased in full (besides the NBC collab)! I’m such a sucker for the moody, broody shades, especially with a contrasting shimmer. I’m super excited for Nightcrawler and Misery is my Favorite Color… 💙

I love the theme but I agree the collection is "basic" for MC (which is funny/unexpected when compared to other brands, but just means they set their bar really high!). Full Scream Ahead is definitely the highlight and the only I will for sure pick up. I'm also considering Monster Under Your Head and Nightcrawler.

ok i’m glad i’m not the only one who felt they were ‘basic’ lol! and yeah exactly its almost insulting to call them that 🤣 yeah I think I was expecting them all to have that wow factor like Full Scream Ahead or Storm Warning, even tho the magnetic shimmer felt a little subtle in that i think the mix of everything made it feel very mooncat to me. Monster & Nightcrawler are super cool though! I think maybe i would just enjoy them more in the fall haha

I really enjoy your swatches and comparisons because you show how the polish will look like in real life, or "common conditions". Brand website photos show images very enhanced and a lot of times they show how a color will look like in a very specific time, light and even moment. That's why I very much appreciate footage or shots of "random home life moment in random light" if that makes sense :) Then we see that most of the dark colors look the same, dark, and light shades are, well, light. The variation is so subtle that I personally appreciate it as it saves me some money for the future UMPH purchases :) So after I watched all the videos (so far, and yours was the best, no exaggeration here) and photos, the only shade that really stands out is Full Scream Ahead. If I didn't have any dark polishes, this collection would be definitely something to choose from, as their quality is great.

Thank you so much for this feedback! I’m trying to incorporate those “real life” clips more in my swatch videos because I know they’re so so helpful for people to see. I especially love how Caitlin from Caitlin Swatches does them, but I just don’t have time for full hand swatches so I hope the skittles are a good compromise! And that’s a huge compliment to say my video was the best, thank you for that!! 🥰 it really means a lot! Yess Full Scream Ahead is definitely a standout with the holo and shimmer finish, just sooo eye catching & stunning 🤩

My set will be here tomorrow! What I love about Mooncat polishes is that the ones I don't think I am going to love, end up being favorites. They have a way of growing on you over time. I did not buy Dark Horse when it came out and was not interested. Well it ended up being a favorite after seeing members of the claw club wearing it so you never know!

I’m a new subscriber and I really enjoy this video! I’ve just gotten into nail polish but I want to be choosy in what I buy to limit repeats so I really appreciate seeing you compare these polishes to other Mooncat colors as well as other brands. I ended up just getting the magnetic shades from this collection as the dark shimmers seemed too similar to what I already have and I’m not a huge fan of green. Looks like I made the right choice based on what you showed, so thank you!

This is maybe the first collection in a long time from MC that I was not all in on. I love Full Scream Ahead and Drown My Demons though. Those 2 are definitely going on my wishlist. I’m kinda iffy on Misery and Monster. I think if they showed up in rewards I would snag them, but they don’t wow me so much that I have to grab them.

i agree, this collection does seem a little..subdued or lacklustre. ILNP's Enchantment knocked Drown My Demons out of the park, for example. There IS a time and place for understated emo grungey alt-aesthetic dark shades in my house..but for Mooncat's price point, i want showstopping glittery shimmers and flakeys and fancy finishes 😂 i feel like i can get dupes or similar shades for cheaper elsewhere :x

I’m glad you get it lol! 🙈 I know not everyone loves extra flakies in their magnetics (like Cirque’s for example) but idk they just feel so boring to me! I def would choose Enchantment over Drown My Demons too 😩 and haha yeah exactlyyy I just wanted a little more oomph in these, I get that they’re supposed to be dark & grungy but yeah sadly just not hitting for me rn. Maybe I’ll love them more in the fall 🤷🏻‍♀️

I felt awful yesterday, too. Today is better. I think this was the perfect time for Mooncat to release this collection after the bright summer and holiday colors, this feels like a great winter break. But, it would work around Halloween, too!

I agree the collection overall seems more subtle and basic than other releases. The only polish I want is Full scream ahead, but I'm not a moody dark polish kind of person haha lots of people seem to consider this their favorite MC collection of the year!!

yeah like i totally get that these fit the dark snd grungy aesthetic so well, it makes sense a lot of people love them! I think maybe I would enjoy them more in the fall personally lol i do like some moody and dark shades for winter and Misery Is is probably the closest to what I crave rn haha. but i do love that this is veryyy mooncat 🤘🏼🖤

I'm with you! I mh prefer their pretty polishes. I've got so many of the darker ones, have the selene, apollo, blood moon, access denied... but I've finally stopped listening to the hype as I so rarely reach for them.

I agree that this collection is a little more subtle than other Mooncat collections but that actually makes them more appealing as far as I am concerned. Not that I don't appreciate the beauty of their regular collection but the subtlety of this one is more appropriate for me and my 9 to 5 office like environment. Winter is hard for me also, currently I’m recovering from a really bad cold 😢 but your video was the highlight of my busy day. Excellent comparisons and I agree with how you feel about this collection. I truly love this whole collection. It feels so different for this time of year and I'm totally here for it. The dark, murky and mysterious vibe is really lush. I like the very low light shimmer in the dark shades. It keeps it moody which for me is the point of the collection. As always, I love your vids and comparisons! Thank you!!! ❤️ ❤

Hi Stefanie! I always love your reviews and look forward to your videos each week. Your swatches are beautiful and the comparisons are also really helpful to me. I did just wanted to make a quick mention about the shade names that you add to the bottom part of the screen; when watching the videos with CC, the captions overlap and cover up the shade names. I do end up having to either move or turn off captions to see what you've written. Not a huge deal but just wanted to make you aware! 🩵

I could have sworn the closed captions would almost move automatically when there’s text on the screen (maybe that’s on a different platform), I’m not really sure if there’s another/better place for them as the upper corners end up getting blocked by either the cards or the paid promotion banner, so maybe I can play with just raising the text to be a little higher than where the captions would be. Sorry for the inconvenience though!

Amazing video! So glad you were able to review this collection. I have to say I’m a bit divided on this - I love the idea and theme of this set (high school emo kid checking in), but I feel some of the shimmer shades are quite dupable (your comparisons and recreations were really great!!) and they are missing the omph factor that I usually would expect from Mooncat. Especially with your low lighting look of the polishes - I was very whelmed so to speak. Lol. I probably would end up getting some of them at some point to try them…but I’m not sure if they would be shades I would reach for that often. :/

And ahh yes that’s exactly how I feel 😅🙈 it really is weird to feel this way about a mooncat release, I feel like it’s almost similar to how some people felt about their Nightmare Before Christmas collab shades where they were expecting more from the shades? And I get that, even though I thought those were really pretty. I also remembered that I shared a lot of lighter sparkly shades in my winter favs video recently so it makes sense I’m not lovinggg these lol. I do think I would gravitate towards them more in the fall though, but it sucks to have to wait that long 😅 yeah maybe by their next sale you’ll know if you really wanna grab them or not !

I love these lol And love the concept. Favs are Nightcrawler, Full Scream Ahead, Monster Under Your Head and Like A Moth to a Flame. I like the others too. Hi Stefaniem new to your channel and as a predomently HT and Mooncat gal, I REALLY appreciate the comparisons. Am going back and checking out previous swatch videos as I've got a sizable collection and need to be a lot more selective with purchases. I have Access Denied and the 13th hour, but was diasppointed with the pics from the website to real life, and seeing the swatches confrimes that most of this collection is not for me. The jury is still out on this is a storm warning and full scream ahead, but as these are LT, I will wait. I've just picked up House of Hades and River stix and some others in the lunar sale and as well as the remaining 3 HT shimmers plus some others in the Black Friday sale so I've plenty to play with. But it was great to see Freezer Burn and Scorched Earth used here. Thank you!

hello!! welcome to my little corner haha :) i’m so glad you appreciate seeing all the comparisons!! it’s something i’ve always wanted to see more of so it makes me so happy to hear others love it too! i totally get you on being more selective with future purchases 😅 aw I’m sorry you were disappointed with those, but yeah I would say these shimmers more or less are similar to Access Denied and The 13th Hour. but I honestly do think Storm Warning & Full Scream Ahead are more typical mooncat shades if that makes sense lol but i wish the silver magnetic in Storm Warning was a little stronger maybe? it felt subtle compared to their other magnetics. but yay for grabbing House of Hades & River Styx, those are STUNNERS 🤩🤩 along with the other HT shimmers too! i’m still missing a few hehe 🙈

Yeah I just didn’t have anything to compare it to! It’s very unique to my collection 😅 but thinking about it now I feel like it could maybe be recreated by layering Holo Taco’s Freezer Burn over a dark grey, and then using Cirque’s Chemistry as the silver magnetic shimmer! 🤔 But thank you soo much!! I’m glad you enjoy seeing the magnetics with a velvet effect too 🤩🤩

Yeah same!! I shared my winter favorites recently and they were just not this dark and moody, which explains why I’m not lovinggg them haha. But still very pretty shades!

Thanks for reviewing and comparing this collection. I assume it's a lot of work and I too struggle this time of year, so it's especially appreciated. I think the light was fine since it's realistic. I don't think a collection's theme, name and shade names has called to me more that this one, but then, I wasn't blown away by the shade reveals, although I do really like a couple of them. Hopefully, I can pick them up at a later date since I seriously, for real, cannot buy another polish right now! Aw of course! Yeah I don’t want to complain about it being hard work necessarily, just time consuming if anything lol 😅 but I’m glad that you understand. And yeah this theme really was so fun! But yeah they just didn’t totally blow me away like other releases 🙈 haha yes maybe it’s worth waiting till mooncat’s next sale to give you enough time to decide if you really wanna grab them! But ahh I know it’s such a struggle this time of year having to prioritize buying things other than nail polish 🤣 but hopefully you can expand on your storage soon!! For the past few years I would ask for an IKEA Helmer for Christmas LOL maybe it’s not too late to put it on your wishlist!! 🎁

oh thats genius!! i think bc i knew just how many other comparisons i had i kinda gave up on combos for Storm Warning lol but yeah my first thought would be another deep grey, HT’s Freezer Burn and Cirque’s Chemistry for the silver magnetic! I’m glad to hear Cold Slate is a good dupable base color though! 🩶

hey! i would say they’re like cousins, definitely similar vibes but not dupes - mooncat’s shimmer is stronger and slightly more shifty, but NOL has flakes in it and has a slightly lighter base!

I wouldn’t say so, I know Mermaid has a shimmer that shifts to green but it’s more in extreme angles. I can do a side by side on my IG stories if you wanna see :)

Honestly same!! I only had the epiphany after recording that I had shared so many bright shimmery/glittery shades for my winter favs lol so it makes sense I wasn’t loving these 🙈 I’m sure I’ll be gravitating towards them next fall though LOL but for now gimme all the holiday sparkleee 🤩🎄🎁✨
