Moondance Notepad Holder Sew Along

Күн бұрынWatch me as I sew the Moondance Notepad Holder from start to finish! This pattern uses vinyl, leather, cork, or other non-fraying material. This pattern includes two sizes. One size to hold a standard Jr. Legal Pad and a second size for an A5 top bound notepad. I'm sewing on a Juki DU1181N, but this could be made on a domestic machine - just choose materials that your machine can handle!

Great video! Thank you for not editing the issues out. Makes new users understand it isnt the DST and can be a vinyl issue too. And then just rolling with sticking yourself to the tape. You made this project so much more approachable and real!! Like shit happens, just keep going!

Love this project. It's easy and quick to make. Couldn't find A5 notepads anywhere so I bought the legal jr. from Amazon. I glued a pretty piece of scrapbooking paper to the top to cover up "Amazon Basics" and the whole thing turned out great! Now I know what to make for next year's stocking stuffers.😁

I loved this project!! I would like to use cloth instead of vinyl on the outside of the notepad. I'll try and I already have in my mind planned how I'm going to do it.

Great tutorial. I plan to use this with A5 comp notebook, So I think I will omit the last step of stitching in the video. Let me know what you think. Thanks Jen!

That should definitely work. I think I would still stitch the front side down, then when you go along the back, sew on the center piece instead of the lining piece. Hope that makes sense!

In the beginning of your video you show a pumpkin vinyl... where do you get your printed vinyl from? I don't have trouble finding plan vinyl but I never can find cute printed vinyl!!

I love this pattern! Thank you. And all your patterns, actually. I am using glow in dark vinyl and it slips, moves around when I sew the sides and bottom. I am a novice and would love to hear what you would do to solve this problem. Other than that, all is good. Thank you

Are the two pieces slipping, or slipping on your machine and foot? I use a lot of double sided tape anytime I'm sewing vinyl and that really makes it so much easier.

This is great! If you add elastic to the middle to hold a pen, do you think it would it close properly?

I think so, because of the thickness of the notepad, there is room there.

Yes, it can be done on a domestic sewing machine. I would recommend using a Teflon foot or walking foot for sewing vinyl.

Such a cute project. Which 1/8 DST do you use? The permanent or the water soluble?

I use the permanent. I haven't tried the water soluble yet. It does get my needle a little gummy, but it wipes off easily.

On step 7 in the pattern, it says to place the angled pocket 3/8 inch from left and bottom edge. In the video, you instruct to use 1/4 inch from edges. Which is correct?

Whoops! Either is fine, just an equal distance from the side and bottom.

@@SincerelyJenPatterns , I used 3/8. I think it worked better for the passage of my machines foot. Flat as opposed to tilted. It’s only an 1/8 inch, but that made for clean passage on my foot. Thanks for the reply.

What type of spray adhesive do you suggest using if your Decovil isn't cooperating? The only area I am struggling with is the notepad slit. the decovil keeps separating. Ugh.

I don't know of a spray adhesive, but I would recommend E6000 glue. I think that should hold! You can also topstitch above and below the slit to hold the decovil in place.

It is just the regular foot that came on my machine. It is a walking foot.

@@SincerelyJenPatterns is there a reason for your preference over other heavy weight stabilizers? I believe Pellon has a heavyweight stabilizer too and one that is foamy?. I'm trying to figure out the pros and cons (to know the best use cases for certain stabilizers) of the decovil. It's so hard to understand without having samples of each in your hands, ya know?.

You could also use Fusible Pelon Peltex for this. Both are stiff fusible stabilizers. There are other brands of similar products as well. I know there was something called Stiffy that was sold at wawak.com. I wouldn't use foam in this since you want it to be stiff
