I flew an M20F for several years. It was a group-owned plane we bought new in 1968 for $20,000, complete with one Narco Nav-Com radio. It replaced an M20C (same cabin size as the M20E). The longer cabin provided sorely-needed leg room for the rear seat passengers.

@@skywagonuniversity5023in my humble opinion it is never enough! The vast majority of airplane videos just seem to skim the Wikipedia page before presenting. That is what I think too, Plus there is a model for everyone. Small economical ones and huge gas sucking ones. Depending on what you need.
@michaelsamson32762 ай бұрын
They are a pain to work on, they fly like shit and the yellow arc starts way too low too. The only good thing about them is they go pretty well for the gas used and if you crash they are fairly safe.

My only critique of this particular ’F’ is that the oil door Dzus fasteners are not streamlined with the airflow. That would drive me (further) nuts. I would HAVE to re-rivet the receptacles rotated 90°. That’s just me. Yes, it’s an illness. 😊 I flew a friend’s B model from Hemet, CA to Salt Lake one night w/ no gyros. VFR, but not fun.

Did I miss the part where you mentioned that the Fs have a 165lb gross weight increase over the short bodies? They are some of the best load haulers in the Mooney fleet. Typically lighter than a J with the same MGW. Many have ULs in the 1050lb range.

If the upgraded exhaust brings the M20F's power up to 230, does that mean it now requires a high performance endorsement to fly? If yes that's a slight disadvantage over the standard exhaust for sure. Must increase fuel burn too.

Mark, does the fuselage stretch come with a longer wheelbase (distance from nose gear to mains), or does that stay the same? If longer, does that help to reduce porpoising when bouncing a bad landing on those donuts? Thanks!
