Moong dal Idli
Ingredients:
1 cup Moong dal
1/4 cup Curd
1/4 cup grated Carrot
1/2 inch grated Ginger
Coriander leaves
1 Green chilli
1 tbsp Oil
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
Curry leaves
A pinch of Heeng
Salt
1 tsp Eno/ cooking soda

Everything is fine but Eno (Chemical), i prefer to use 5 gms of fenugreek (Vendhayam in Tamil) soaked with Moong daal and again fermentation naturally before you add green chilli, curry leaves such.... It maybe more soft and Natural ingredients. Moong Daal iddly without rice, Good idea.

Just made these. Came out perfect. Made 16 of them. Had some mix left over so made a chilla from it which also came out nice and tasty.

Was good- the only problem was it didn't rise up . Wonder what went wrong. Does the curd have to be slightly sour for the acid to work on the cooking soda?

Yes, u can add baking soda, even that is optional. Manytimes I dnt use both, still idlies L b good..

Sri Guru Datta Jai Sairam you can skip this but if you want soft idli you have to add this or I think 6 to 8 hours for fermentation

Its for the soda bicarbonate. You can add soda bicarbonate used in baking to make the idli rise and be soft.

Hi Butter Kitchen ( wish I knew your name!), I tried this recipe and it came out great! I used a round steel container and it got steamed very well and slid out of the container.

This looks healthy and delicious too. Haven't yet tried but will try soon. Is this possible without eno or baking soda/powder?? Like if we keep the batter for a few more hours, will that work?

Thank you 😊 Make the batter without curd and keep it for 6-8 hours for fermentation. Then make idli. This way you can skip eno. Do try and let me know how it turned out 😍😍

@@ButterKitchen thanks for the help! It turned out really well. They taste really good and are healthy too :) In the second batch I added a little of rice flour to make it carb plus protein but didn't turn out fluffy and became solid lol😁. It could be because rice flour was not fermented.

Thank you 😍 Eno is to instantly ferment the batter. If you want to avoid eno, add 1/2 tsp cooking soda or else skip curd while making batter and allow it to ferment for 6-8 hours.
