A great day practicing at the local shooting range with the Varberger 6,5X55 caliber. this time moose shooting range, close to 100 yards. practicing before the annual moose hunt is mandatory in our team. even this year practicing showed to be useful.

To be honest, i did not think i would enjoy this as much as i did! This was actually really nice to follow along to. I'm hunting as well, but more small animals with a shotgun. Love the standard on your shooting range. Mmmm... i can almost smell the gun powder. Thank you for taking us along tjommi. I think you can do much more content like this as well 👏🏻

Hahaa, Konrad my dog was examining all the gear very thoroughly when i got home. He love gun powder smell 😂. Small game hunting is the best hunting form, but the mooses on our permit must get down in the freezer. The social part of it is very nice though. Thanks and see you tjommi!

Thanks Andrew! We have a really nice shooting range club, many members who works on there sparetime to get it where it is. It has ranges for pretty much all shooting disciplines. Every time i'm there i think it's so fun to practise so i should to it more often 👍😁.

Yes the range is relly nice we have skeet and trap shooting ranges, short ranges. And trails with different moving targets as well. Great club with mlstly retires guys that keeps it nice voluntarily. 30-06 kicks good 😂👌, a popular caliber!

Thirty years since I took my “hunters exam” never hunted once. But it’s fun with target shooting. A couple of years ago I tested a working friends .338 first shot was fun but not the second 😳
@Braapncamp

Haha, 338 is hilarious 🤣 the classic 9,3X62 is also beefy 👍
@JoonesAdventuresMC
@JoonesAdventuresMC 3 жыл бұрын
Yes the 338 was bad. After a couple of thousands of round with 7,62 NATO I didn’t think I would be afraid for the recoil but I was wrong. There’s a big difference between those rounds and I think that the reloading mechanism in AK4 takes a lot of the gas pressure witch reduce the recoil a lot. I have never tested 9,3x62 but I can imagine that it can kick a lot especially in an old rifle with an poorly designed, wats the name “kolv”?

I have the same rifle. They are very well built but a little on the heavy side. Smooth bolt and excellent trigger. Puts most of my handloads under an inch but will put Barnes 120 ttsx under a half inch all day long. Definitely a keeper

@@Braapncamp Sweden exported a bunch of rifles to Canada the past few years. I have 3 Husqvarna mausers (9.3x57, 9.3x62 and 8x57) and the Varberger in 6.5x55. Love the metric calibres. All shoot well but the varberger shoots the best. It was mint when I bought it. Even came with a test group from the factory that measured under half inch.

Thats cool, very nice rifle collection. My Varberger came with the same and was shooting as good as advertised at first day out shooting. I use mostly Norma ammunition, for hunting i use hand loaded rounds with Oryx bullets. 6,5X55 all mooses and deers i have fallen for these rounds except the first two years in the 90's. The Husqvarna rifles are nice! Very popular to restore old Husqvarnas and modify the flag type safety, if not allready done. I would like to have a 9,3 with short barrel, great for sneaking in on moose that stands for our Jämthund (moose hunting dog). My grandfather had a 8X57 a nice one. The oldest Husqvarna i have is a shotgun from 1915, my grand grand father had it, still does the job! Interesting that used rifles are exported to Canada. Must be a demand/availability thing? There is a nice Facebook group for Husqvarna rifles users. Have You seen that? Happy trails! 🤠🙌

Update… shot a .091” (2.3mm) group today with the varberger with 127 Barnes LRX and CFE223. Best group I ever shot with any rifle ever. This rifle is amazing. Thought I was missing the target with the second and third shot. Measured outside diameter was .355” so subtracted.264 to get the group size. Also, was getting 2950 fps velocity average so pretty happy with this load

Thanks! The old Varberger does better than me 😅 I have shoot crazy good with this rifle over the years. The factory advertized 3 shots with in an inch precision at 100y/m and it has delivered that over many years. This is a 6,5X55 and has performed flawless at all type of hunting in 26 years. The range have many type of ranges for different disciplines and are well kept by the members of the club. Thanks again for joining in, are you hunting and or shooting at range?

The feeling when your young dog taks up and drive game in it's beginning of ghe learning curve is something special, as well when you and your dag later work as a true team in the woods. No other type of hunt beats the well-being feeling in this success. Happy trails my friend!

How effective is 6.5x55 on moose? Is it still the most popular hunting cartridge in Scandinavia? If not what are the popular ones? Thanks!

@Braapncamp 3 жыл бұрын
During my own 26 years with the 6,5X55 no moose have ever walked/run more than 20-30m after the shot. One hit in the lungs or heart kill effectively. In the video after this one when I shot a rather large moose, it just fell on the spot I shot that moose bull. Like most others. I have killed a large moose at 240m with this gun, nothing to be proud of since it's irresponsible, but I was young. That mosse walked 20m. The bullet did not expand, so the wound was like you have stinged/stabbed it with a flourette. Most popular caliber is 30-06 and .308 I would say. Shotguns it's 12, on my combi bock I have 12/7X57R with is also nice in hunting situations were we have a moose still on the license but also release dogs on small games or wild boar for the matter.

@@Braapncamp Hello Mattias, greetings from Canada. My "meat gun" is a CZ550 6.5 swede using 140grain Nosler Accubonds @ 2650 fps. It is one violent bullet. I use it for everything from white tail deer to Elk and Moose. The last Bull Moose I shot was at 300m. He was slightly facing towards me. The bullet went just inside his right shoulder towards the middle of his chest. The bullet went through the entire Bull front to back and exited out of his rear hip, going through the hip bone first before exiting. The bullet broke the front right shoulder, destroyed the lungs, the liver, punched through the stomach, and then through the rear hip and out. I have never recovered one Accubond yet from any animal. I haven't had to shoot anything a second time with that rifle and that bullet. In Canada we do not have an energy minimum for large game, we have a caliber minimum. The smallest legal caliber for large game [including Moose] is a 243 Winchester. I have much larger calibers to choose from but I always reach for my 6.5 swede 1st. I feel like I'm cheating on my wife or something if I leave home without it haha. So far, I've seen no difference between the 6.5x55, 7x57, 7mm-08, 270, 308, 30-06, 300WM out to 300m.

Hey, thanks for this comment. I have the Oryx bullet in home loaded shells. I do not remember the figures but it is slightly more speed than the factory shells. These bullets I often recover in the far away shoulder. But thats OK, all yhe energy stays in the moose. I like it alot and use it for all kind of game with different bullets. Would not change my 6,5 Varberger for anything. Happy trails!

Have you bought a new bike? I did see a ktm 790 adv r at a dealer in Karlstad. With a nomad sticker on the tank. And when I asked where it came from, they said that it came from a town not far from Trollhättan. (I do not want to reveal which city) sorry about the grammar google translate
