The Mora salesmen are playing with the words a little. Eldris is a small place (35 houses) in the forest outside Mora in Dalarna, Sweden. Eld = fire, ris = branches, so with Eldris you can set fire to branches in the forest. Garberg is another small place further up the river from Mora, some 50 houses between the forest and the river Dalälven.

Thanks for sharing those details. I have these knives and other Mora’s, like them all. I enjoy and appreciate the level of respect your countrymen have for nature. Unfortunately here in America, a healthy attitude of respect towards nature is not the same as in your country.

Great review. A small knife like the Eldris can end up being used more than a lot of larger knives. The Edris pared with a large knife would an awesome combination. Thanks for sharing

Got this in red a few weeks back. What a fantastic little blade. Getting one for each of my three boys for Xmas AND a spare/second (in blue) for me, it really is that good. Bright colours are hard to loose so gotta love the blue over turf or carcass IMHO. Father Christmas never had it so easy (sorry Rudolf). BTW v v easy to sharpen to razor edge out of the box using a leather belt on the kitchen table. Not slipped out of the sheaf yet but I don't use as a neck knife so not really been tested. If neck was my thing I would probably get the secondary clip. I have had a Mora belt hung plastic sheaf split in the past, loosing a favourite blade as a result. This one fits great in the pocket so, for me, who cares. Reverse use of sheath to extend hold makes this little knife really good to handle in the cold. Get one (or more)...you won't regret it.

Thank you for the wonderful commentary. I've been really intrigued by these little blades. I have a Mora electrician knife that makes a handy utility cutter. Maybe this would be better? Good point you mentioned is that you really get the same thing with a 510/511 which you know I like. I like the standard handle up sheath on the 510 too for a neck knife. I just find it easier, and more convenient, to put the knife back in the sheath one handed. I like how the little Eldris could fit in the pocket. Not sure if it would replace a folding pocket knife though. Choices, choices... Thanks again my friend!

I carried it with me today as well. It is really fun to work with. Personally I would not replace my edc folder with it but to take it along, simply because of the size, would not be a bad idea. It is stainless, it has a good edge angle so for small carving jobs it will be really good. I will test to see how it does. Of course the small blade cannot compare with the 510/511 which is just one of he most practical knives that Mora made, but the Eldris is really fun to work with. In my case, I got is as a gift so I am really enjoying it a lot... :)

I think this is for scouts. A little longer blade on a version for adults would be nice - 2.75” to match that class of pocket knives. The Eldritch Light comes without the thinning out grind on the tip.

I still have this one. I like playing around with it to this day. it might be a nice knife, as you said, for scouts or kids...to teach them how to use a knife safely. It is a nice product, can be useful...better than not having any knife on you, of course....

Great video. I agree with what you say. Its like €35. And thats here in Sweden. To put things in perspective I can buy a Mora 711 for €5. A proper work horse with one of the best handles of all time. This might be a good knife and you can spend money on worse things but know that when you buy it you wont get the quality/price ratio that made Mora famous world wide. A large portion of the money is there simply to raise the status of the knife. As is the colorful desings that has gone from practical to pop culturr. Mora seems to put alot of effort into reprofiling themselves to these days. We actually used to make knives like this out of full size mora at work. They are useful for electrical work. It takes 5 mins and cost €5.

Say Heah Denis. I just bought two Mora Ekdris. One I got in O.D. Green for my new set I just put together with my original Fox Parang Bushcraft Jungle Knife with the Kansbil also in the O.D. Green. The other Eldris is Black. Both of the Eldris Knives have the neck knife attachments and this Black version will go with my new Fox Jungle knife that has a few suttle differences. One its a little linger, and the Clipped Point, and the Spine has Jimping on the whole spine. But it aslso is in Black so it will color matchm,,.

Mora makes good knives. So now they want to make better money for those knives. It makes sense. I would have not bought it for myself, I have to admit. Not the Eldris or the Garberg...too pricey. As you said, a 711/746 cost much less. Even so...I do like it...
@TheKimjoh560
@TheKimjoh560 7 жыл бұрын
SpartanJohns A Mora that is priced like other knives is no longer an excellent knife but good knife. There is plenty of that around. (Altough this product is somewhat unique) But since they play both sides on the knife market now there is no point complaining. I'm a bit worried they will go down the route of Fjällräven though. They made products for outdoor enthusiasts. Great quality/price ratio. Now they make clothes and accesories for hipsters and people with more money than sense. Same quality, different prices.
@SpartanJohns
@SpartanJohns 7 жыл бұрын
yes...i fear the same thing... As you mentioned Fjallraven...I was alo thinking just about that...I recently went to Germany and was amazed at the store prices. I am still hoping that Mora will bring back the old 510, the one with the 2.5 mm thick spine.

Great timing! The last days I found myself looking at the Eldris online very frequently, thinking: "Really do not NEED this thing (or such a small blade in general other than a folder) but just want to have and play with it". Your vid convinced me to purchase one.. I think it is quite expensive for a MORA, but still really affordable if you go for the basic version. In guess it will be very good in carving tasks when you use the belly / tip of the knive, cause both are so close to the handle. Will you do more testing and another vid or leave it with this presentation?
@SpartanJohns
@SpartanJohns 7 жыл бұрын
I have one more short video about how I found a small pouch for it... I did not plan to test it further but found myself playing with it quite a bit... Still...a 510 black is 6 Euros on hkgt.de...more knife I still wonder how it will do for carving...the blade is small enough to be easily controlled but it is very wide... I am guessing that after some more testing I will probably make a review of how it does.. I have to be honest and say that this is the first small knife that I am really starting to like...
@wartstein8814
@wartstein8814 7 жыл бұрын
Mine has not arrived yet, but I am really looking forward to it. Mora did something right at least in that you see that knive and just want to get it in hands, try it out and work with it... at least thats what happened to me ;-) And as you say, it is the first small fixed blade / Neck Knive I am even interested in. Till now I always preferred a folder when it came to small blades. But if the Eldris is one you really want to work with over an extended period, the advantage of the comfortable handle might be a huge plus (guess no folder will be that comfortable in hand?) / May I take the opportunity and ask two questions off topic?: 1. Where do you usually buy and sell USED knives? Is there any good source or forum or whatsoever? 2. What is the best way to square of a spine so that it does work better with a fire steel? (Would like to do so with my companion)? Maybe you find the time to reply (or anyone here) - would really appreciate that.
@SpartanJohns
@SpartanJohns 7 жыл бұрын
1. I usually buy used knives from Germany. Facebook groups such as Messermarkt/Knifemarket. And when I sell them I usually sell them locally, to avoid any "mishaps" with the post office. 2. for squaring off spines the best way is to use a diamond stone(very rough) if you do not have a vise to hold it in. If you have a vise then the best way would be to clam the knife in the vise and then to work on the spine with a file. If you choose the diamond stone way, then you need to have some time and patience....
@wartstein8814

Thank you very much! In fact I have a vise and several metal files, so I´ll try it that way. The good thing with the companion is how very cheap it is. So I am not worried to much if I mess it up.. ;-)

Thank you. Decathlon clothes and shoes are ok. For the price you pay...I only buy their "entry level" clothes...they seem to do a decent job and last a long time. Unfortunately their "higher end" stuff is not proportional in functionality with the prices. But as things stand...anybody can get a nice set of outdoor clothes that will last and do a decent job for, what i would call, a fair price. The green jacket I wear in most of my youtube videos is about 3 years old and it is my "go to" jacket for bushcrafting or hunting...not the warmest, but with an extra fleece it gets the job done! And it is still very much water resistant

I can see the logic to this knife, it's like a beefed up small carver knife, you can leave your fine carving knife at home if you're one of those people who takes it out. My Barlow knife does that job and I really like Barlow's so I probably won't buy this and spend the money on another Barlow!

I don't get the sense of this knife at all. I suspect is was intended to be the Mora skinning knife, and that its makers laugh their heads off watching the bush-crafting community trying to make sense of it. The fact is that, for the price, this knife performs worse than the absolute cheapest Mora knife for any bush-crafting task. There is nothing - and I mean absolutely nothing - that this knife is better for. I was talking to a friend and his thoughts were that the knife is tolerated only because the handle is surprisingly comfortable for the size. His opinion was that, but for this fact, no one would look a second time at this knife. Need an expensive fire steel scraper with a great handle? Spend $30 on the Eldris.
@SpartanJohns
@SpartanJohns 7 жыл бұрын
Well you can watch Mora's opinion on the Eldris on KZfaq and find out that this was actually thought to be a bushcraft, fishing, hiking knife. It is obvious that you have strong feelings about it, without owning it. In the end it is up to you if you want to buy the knife of not. That is the good thing about "free will". I think it is fantastic! I also think that the best choice for a small neck knife is the 510 and the best Mora Price/performance is the Robust. But if Mora would only make the knives I like I think they would not be the company they are today.
