Looks like a good knife. My very first knife was the classic wooden handle Mora that I bought in the harbour kiosk when I was a small child, so I feel strongly for Moras still!

Have been watching your old videos all evening again. Discovering this channel for possibly the best that I have found on the internet EVER! :) A really big thank you to you Lars for ALL these videos!

Finally an actual outdoors person talking about knives! KZfaq is full of people sitting at desks talking about steel. The steel discussions I find completely meaningless. It’s like snake oil for knife consumerists. A good steel is a good steel. A well tempered 12c27 or 1095 is all anyone needs. I bought all that knife forum bs over a decade ago and got all the bark rivers and esee and Fallkniven stuff. Then noticed I always just grabbed my Mora 2000 because it was much lighter in the backpack, worked better than the others with wet and slimey hands. Worked better in the cold with no exposed metal, and it wasn’t so precious that I worried about losing it. Short story I got more into being outdoors hiking than buying knives. And then I lost interest completely in the knife community because it’s just full of guys harping on about s30vwhatever. The Mora 2000 has been the standard issue knife for Swedish army for decades and it’s a great knife. I got the Kansbol too to compare with my trusty 2000. I kind of like the 2000 handle better. And not sure I always like a sharpened spine. The round spine on the 2000 is easier on the thumb with hard use.

Love this blade. My most used, most versatile fixed blade. I don’t have the multi mount myself. I often remove the belt loop and just pocket it. Weighs nothing. “It. Is. Awesome.”

I've found knife preference comes down to the techniques the person has for their projects. They move to the knives that fit that nitch. And it comes down to the comfortability and talent they train their hands too. In Nepal they all use Kukris. I got one (Cold Steel 0-1) and have used it for a few years and I love it now. At first it was like holding a club, that intimidated me. All that blade and physics could come back to bite a person. But now I carry that and a Swiss tool or spirit and it's great

After you first reviewed this I tried to get one but here in Canada they cost alot. So I got a $20. Mora and made my own cross draw mount. This is always with me in the woods and is one of my favourite knives. It's blade is carbon steel that I put an anti-rust finish on by soaking the blade in lemon juice. So thanks for the review and tip about the cross draw method.

I have this same knife and sheath, I like the versatility of carrying it. I also put a small length of paracord through the hole in the handle

I have used a cross-body sling made from webbing in the past. It is practical in cold weather while wearing jackets that hang down below the belt line. The Kansbol is in my pack now.

My wife and I both have mora knives for hunting. Hers is stainless and slightly flexible for things like preparing food and butchering/deboning game but it's stiff enough to field dress a buck. Mine is higher carbon so a bit thicker and stiffer for processing wood for fires and breaking joints but holds an edge very well so it will field dress a buck as well as skinning it in a pinch. We also carry a Wyoming knife and saw set that we can both use.

I have been carrying the Hultafors OK4 now. Great little woodworking knife! Love my Kansbol for food prep!

Good review, I think the Multi-Mount looks awesome and serves the purpose of being kept handy, more so than other methods at times. In winter we wear so much clothing that getting a knife out of a belt sheath, pocket or pack is hilarious, this would solve that in a hurry:) Will rig something up to see how it works and might have to take the dive and invest in one, cheers.

I made a similar cross draw rig for a RAT Cutlery RC-3(now called ESEE-3) a few years back after seeing the American survival TV host Creek Stewart sporting one in a magazine article. For mine, I mounted the knife's original MOLLE sheath back to a leather sling off a Romanian GP WASR10 rifle. The main difference is that I prefer to have the knife's handle pointing down. I can just get to it easier that way. This setup makes carrying and removing/replacing the knife into the sheath much easier than it would be if worn on the belt, especially if I'm sitting down or wearing winter clothing.

I also have the same or similar thoughts on big knives. I personally do not like them. I prefer to carry a knife with a blade length of around 4 inches and carry a saw and hatchet. A large knife does everything poorly compared to the tool made for that task. I prefer to carry the tools made for the job that perform their prospective tasks well. I know that a lot of people will disagree with me but when I see someone carrying a big knife I immediately catalog them as likely being an inexperienced person in the woods. Most long time woodsmen do not carry long knives and that is for a reason.

I have three Mora's and they work great! Carried them in Afghanistan, a real quality product.

Great set up you have there. I agree about neck knives in general, they are over-hyped. I made a kydex sheath for my Mora Eldris and I configured it to use as a neck knife. It's works well. A shorter knife used for a neck knife seems to work well... but not a longer knife like the Kansbol.

Nice Lars, my step father was finish and my Grandparents came over from Finland and my grandfather was a blacksmith and carpenter and the knives they always used were Mora's. I have a few of those that have been well used and well sharpened over the years as you can tell by the lack of material left on them. My grandfather shaped many of these mora's for his woodworking efforts and things that he built. Once again great video and have a good weekend.

Knife size seems to be a polarizing issue here. I view it slightly differently. I used to carry a large bowie type knife, with a folding saw. I occasionally added a hatchet, but not that often. That combo worked great for what I needed and wanted in one northern environment. When I moved to another northern environment, I ditched the big knife and went to a bushcraft knife, again with the saw. Again, I occasionally added a hatchet or a real axe. That combo also did what I wanted. I'm now a little further south than ever before, and the Mora and saw still come with me always. But, I've now added a 12" or 14" machete or Parang. It allows me to do what I want to more easily than if I simply made due with the Mora. In this case, I'm talking about crafting stuff. Nothing cleans a stick as fast as a short light machete. Since I'm working on building stuff more these days, it is worth it to me to carry the bigger (albeit very light) knife in addition to my basic needs. In my younger years, I did not do much crafting, and a single blade would work fine for my limited use. You can certainly skin 10, 6' branches with a Mora, but it is not so fun. The machete makes it fast and easy to do. A hatchet is a traditional tool for the job, but it works better on thicker stuff. Making ski shoes is not the ideal situation for a hatchet, though it can obviously do the job. You have to choose the right tool for the job at hand, and in the woods, we all decide where we draw the line for weight vs. bulk vs. ease of use. No matter what though, my folding saw, carried faithfully now for over 25 years, always makes the cut. (pun intended). Thanks for the great channel Lars.

Caught you just before I head out with my Mora, my shotgun and my pack. Ya, the old timers knew how to do it. Knife and axe, possibly a pocket knife, too. Nowadays you can add a decent saw to your kit! Never got into the huge knives, myself. Take care, see you soon, we hope.

Great video Lars! I use a Mora neck-knife in the woods as well, and have been for years. I don;t have the cross-mount system, bu just tuck it in my shirt/jacket/vest/etc. and that keeps it from flopping around. It's funny but I brought up the issue of why "smaller knives" are preferable on another very prominent survival channel, and got a pretty strong response, and my very polite rebuttal was blocked. The argument coming from that person was that if you are only going to have only one thing (which is very unlikely by the way), it needs to be a big knife, so you can use it to process wood. I argued three basic points: 1) 90% of the things you use knives for (carving, processing games, cleaning fish, whittling, etc.) are easier to do if the knife is no longer than 4"; 2) If you only have one knife, you would be crazy to be hitting it with a baton (as you have said as well); and 3) If you are in the North, you need and axe or a saw to process wood for heat. A knife is basically useless in this job given how much wood you need. If you have any kind of knife, and that's all you have, then you find dead trees. Where fire is concerned, etc., you don't need it to baton kindling, etc. because there's are always twigs, usnea, birch bark, etc. maybe you need a knife to make shvings if it has been raining a lot and you can't find birch anywhere, but that's about it. Anyway, great vid, glad to hear it's not just me.

Good mount for fishermen because it can be rapidly deployed single handed if they get tangled with rope or other dangerous situation

My Go-to knife is a Finnish Ahti Puuko with 4 inch blade and a traditional dangle sheath...great steel! That being said, I bought a Mora and will try out your Danish cross draw rig. Very interesting. I love your channel! I live in Bayou country in Louisiana but I travel a good deal. My son lives up in Alaska and I’m looking forward to trying out your rig over rain gear and winter layers. The situation/ location calls for different tools. When I hunt/fish I take my Kansbohl with me to me it's perfect for that. Now I live in Florida so when I spend a weekend out in the woods I take a longer knife which can be used as a machete. Here I don't have to built a shelter or make big fires so a saw or hatchet has little use to me. Camping up north or in your neck of the woods Lars and it's a different story I take a folding saw with me. Lately I use the Skrama from Varusteleka...so far I love it! It is long enough to be used as machete, it's a great chopper and with the second grind close to the handle I can do fine work. However tool selection is also based on personal preference and taste I have no problem with people taking other tools in the woods...it is all about having fun!!!

I love Mora's I have the Garberg scored it for $55 a year ago, now that its relatively in the $70 I think its way worth the money. I went in to my local sporting good store and they had a Helle Utvar knife for $230!!!!! 12C27N😮 🤔 The sheath is CRAP super thin leather. The Garberg is 14C28N and comes with one of the nicest factory leather sheaths I've seen for $70 its amazing deal. You are very right on the smaller knife idea I agree 100%, I've used my Garberg for a year now and believe me its worth the extra $25. The Kansbol is an awesome knife but its around $49 U.S , the Garberg has better steel and an indestructible tang, the weight and balance is solid in hand. BUT that being said ya can't go wrong either way cause the Kansbol is a great knife ....its just Mora's price points that have me scratching my head. I recently bought an Eldris, the most ridiculously over priced item they sale....I love it now that I made a wood handle its become my favorite edc BUT!!! $25-45 IS INSANE. They sale it with just the sheath for $23-$25 but with a fire steel string and piece of thin leather snap for $22-25 MORE🤔 ANYWAYS LOL.... I love Mora but they need to adjust their price points or not cause stupid people like me still buy um ROFL😉😂

Yep 4.3" handy size light will do what most pocket knifes will do as well as 80% of the over sized knives will do yep 3.5 to 6 inch range is pretty standard as for what's best it depends upon what you feel comfortable carrying around with you because if you aren't comfortable with it you are probably not going to carry it yep making a decent looking multi mount is a little harder than it looks but can be done for any knife all depends upon what you want

I personally use the Garberg and I like it a lot for many reasons. I actually think of it as good value compared to similar knives like the Fällkniven F1. I personally prefer it to be full tang because it is my main belt knife but as a secondary knife in this configuration the Kansbol seems just about perfect. And by the way, to my knowledge, the Kansbol is made from 12C27 and the Garberg from 14C28N.

I have had my Mora Kansbol with multi mount for a month. I use it across my chest also and it is very awesome compared to other knives I have carried :)

That multi-mount sure works well, I remember you extolling it's virtues and the cross-draw in previous videos. Moras get way more bad press in some outdoors gear scenes than seems justified. Overall as you mentioned about the knife's usability it brought to mind how usable in general that universal scandi knife shape is. In Finland the local variant is called "Puukko" and I think they still remain the most used outdoors knife here. Why change a classic(/don't fix it if it ain't broken etc.) Hope your weekend is good, cheers!

I use a pocket knife and a Mora mostly. It depends on the purpose of my outing whether I carry a folding saw, Cold Steel shovel, big knife, Cold Steel kukri machete, or hatchet. I do wear a neck knife. No problem been doing it for years. I tuck it inside my shirt for certain activities. I prefer to wear a belt knife horizontally when I do. Liked hearing your thoughts as always.

I just purchased a Mora GARBERG for $64 usd on Amazon with the multi-mount sheath. It Is AWESOME!!!!!!--- It's like the Kansbol but also Full-Tang. --- If You get one, I think You won't regret it.

The way i see it most of the time with most gear is you either get smarter or stronger (don't think either is bad ) and by that i mean you use the bigger knife you use a bigger backpack with more gear and get used to the weight or the other way around and you downsize and learn to make more with less. Me personally i carry a reprofiled yugo-bayonet and a pocket chainsaw. In some instances i'm a pack mule in others i go feather light the thing most need to remember is carry what you NEED not what you WANT.

I'm sold on the Mora Clippers, so much so that I bought two. I have a Schrade M-52 six and seven eighths or whatever. Anyway, if I need a machete, I'll use a machete. Nice one capt.

Reading everything and following both channels it would be nice to see what the “real bushman” in the old days would carry in Russia and in northern Amerika (US, Canada & Alaska) and then look at what the natives in both areas used. That would get my interest just like Ötzi.

just checked the price in NZ for the kansbol with a multi-mount. Its $99.00 which is about 2.5 times the price of the basic mora knifes. Looks like I will have to get busy in the workshop and multi mount an existing sheath.

I carry my multi-mount on my Savotta backpack's shoulder strap, which is conveniently fitted with MOLLE webbings, it sits securely and I can use the Kansbol without removing my backpack. I really find the Kansbol useful and I like it's understated utilitarian design, it kind of quietly proves itself the more you use it...

A good Leatherman tool and such a knife like this makes a very good combination.

In the 'old days' of the Fisheries, fisher folk needed instant access to the knife. Hooked by a longline, pulled overboard, the knife would save the 'Jonah' from the 'Deep Six'.

LOL, I never knew there was a mount to that, I like the neat position of the knife but I just taped it up on a strap and used rubber from a bike tube as security strap. But now I want that mount too, I should never have watched this.

Most hunters when I was a kid in the Rockies had maybe a lock back hunter, a traditional hunting knife or some sort of folding pocket knife. Lock back hunters were like Mora's are now, most people had one. The big knives thing didn't happen until the Rambo movies came out. You've said most of my opinions on big knives, the weight to usefulness ratio doesn't add up, that weight/space could be used for axe/hatchet/saw/machete in hotter climates. I'm not currently in a climate where you can plunge through ice or other instances where you need your knife in seconds but if I was, I'd buy a multimount, as is, I'll stick to my Mora 2000!

from a practical point of view, thats a great set up for the middle aged man who has expanded a little around the middle or if you a carrying a pack with a waste belt.

I’ve heard it said that the people who survive in the extreme north will carry and use knives/tools that fit in the palm of their hand. As you travel south towards the equator the knives keep increasing in size .

Agreed on the big knife scenario, they are too cumbersome, when I'm out I will carry five cutting tools, my Jacklore which has a short 41/2 inch Scandi grind blade, a Mora backup knife in the Bergen, a Golok machete, a Fiskars pull cut saw and a hatchet, all designed for different cutting tasks and all do their job well, I'm not a believer in the " one tool does all " idea, specific tools for specific tasks is my way of thinking, cheers Lars and atb to you and yours 👍🏻🇬🇧

Far North said it well. I own a large semi-kukri that is useful, in case I don't have my silky saw. If you only have one knife, this would be an excellent choice, although why someone would only have one knife at the price point of Moras is something I vaguely understand. Once upon a time I said I would only buy one Mora. Silly me.

Recently got my Kansbol. I’ll be trying the sling but will be curious to see if it’s easier to draw upside down on the strap.

One has to make choices as to what they carry into the bush. If they have a horse, mule, or Survival Russia vehicle, they can carry many tools suited for particular tasks. But usually, we are on foot, with a back-pack and a rifle. I see from this site that an appropriate knife and a folding saw are indispensable, along with a tarp, rope, food, etc. what else?

Scandi grind is just the best everybody comes to that conclusion after short or long time

What I hoped might be shared was what keeps the belt with the multi-mount from having the knife slide down to around his side ... it usually seems to ride up on the chest most all the time. Maybe that question could be mentioned and answered in an upcoming video. Thanks.

Big knives are cumbersome. They might be more multiuse, like whacking smaller trees down, or (oh my god) batoning stuff than smaller knives, but for those tasks i would rather use saw or axe much much more efficiently.

I usually carry my knife on my chest, on my bag strap. But I'm gonna try to carry it the sling way. I carry a larger knife so I'll see how it goes.

I have a Mora Companion, great knife for the price.

Mora are nice knifes but I find my self mostly buying cheaper Mora knockoffs from Biltema or Jula. They might not be of the same quality but on the other hand I can buy 10-20 of them for the price of a Morakniv.

The inexperienced often break/bend bigger knives when using as a lever. Bigger knives give the impression of being indestructible, they are also heavier, take longer to sharpen and are less capable at jobs which require dexterity. I've done the big knife thing and written it off as "youthful exuberance"...age and experience is a great teacher :)
