i own both and they are great, mora knows how to make a quality blade. that being said, if i had to label them, id say the garberg is the toughest mora currently out there, the full tang, pommel, microbevel, flat spine and stainless steel, not only make it one tough blade to use, but one very durable knife against the elements as well. as for the kansbol, id consider that moras perfected blade. taking all the classic features found in past models , but upgrading them. the kansbols thin blade and secondary flat edge towards the tip make it an excellent wood carver, and game/food processor. if i had to choose only one, ill take the kansbol. nothing against the garberg, just my lifestyle and my environment dont need strength in a blade as much as it needs finesse and precision. just my 2 cents.

Well said. I think it has to be a question of where you are and what you need. From what I've seen the Kansbol just seems to be a solid all rounder and got mine on the way. I'd take a small axe too so adds to my overall set up for my needs. Plus it weighs less than a lot of folding knives so you can easily afford the additional pack weight of an axe. That said as a grab and go, one tool to do it all garberg seems like a pretty solid choice as it seems to be a 'survival knife' by design. Sure there are compromises and it wouldn't exactly be the most comfortable experience but it would see you through.

@Bob Dobalina From using Companion and Companion HD, i have a feeling the scandis can be considered multi purpose knives only when thin. Thick scandis just don't cut well and i think that's what a knife is for primarily. Thick scandi is maybe good at batoning or other HD use, but sacrifices much of it's slicing performance to the HDness.

the real difference boils down to price point, here in the UK, the Garberg retails for $147, the Kansbol $44 , get a Kansbol and a Husqvana forest axe for the price of a Garberg and be prepared for all eventualities.

For hunting oriented purposes I prefer Kansbol, for Utility and Survival I will choose Garberg. Price wise Kansbol is the winner but having only one knife all around, Garberg wins. Thank you for beautiful great energetic unbiased informative videos.

I have both and love them, the kansbol at the cabin, food prep, skinning, great knife for any precision work, the garberg for when Im out in the woods, its a little tank, batoning, chopping, notches for traps. They are both great knives and compliment each other perfectly so I say get both, you cant go wrong with either.

I got a Kansbol, and I love it. I can't believe the Garberg could be any better. As far as notching and stuff, I also carry a Cold Steel Trail Tomahawk, with a pommel on the end, so that's what I would use for that. I used to think the CS Bushman was the ultimate outdoor knife, but now I carry the Kansbol everywhere. Mora rocks!

I just found the perfect woods combination. The Kansbol, and Eldris. I love them both, and for making Feathersticks and shavings, the Eldris is tops. My Kansbol does everything else, including dressing out trout, and small game. The Eldris isn't bad on small game, either. It skins great. Like I said, Mora rocks. I even still carry a Companion.

If I had to choose one it would be the Garberg. The security of a full tang sets it a little ahead for me. But I see these two as a system. Wear the Garberg and use it for general camp tasks. Keep the Kansbol in your bag, and use it for skinning, food prep, etc. Great review John!

Garberg is like a Tier1 operator. A sturdy, fearless, reliable and direct action commando who handles any situation better than expected. Kansbol feels like a Green Beret. A Tier2 warrior who can also be deployed for higher-level missions. Versatile, flexible, professional and perfected almost in every aspect.

I just recently bought a black carbon steel blade Garberg because of the thicker full tang blade. I was a little skeptical of the thinner profile blade on the Kansbol as I figured it would not be as durable. Having seen your video I think I will eventually add the Kansbol to my other Mora's as I can see them complimenting each other as a set. Just like different guns are used for different tasks different blades would be as well. You need a well rounded tool box. I definitely believe in that approach. Of course it also means I wind up with Hella lot of tools lol.

Just ordered a Garberg Carbon steel with the multi mount, i think it will be a good companion. I have a couple of Mora 2000 as well (same blade as Kansbol but different handle), which i think is a close to perfect hunting knife for larger games. The 2000's have served me well at more than 20 years at mostly moose hunt. For smaller games like red dear and such i have an more estethic typical scandinavian hunting knife. I really like the blade of 2000/Kansbol for different tasks, one of the best or most practical. The Swedish army have used the 2000 as a std field knife for many years, they holds up for more beating than most think. I like the low weight for all tasks except chopping, but in normal situation i use a axe for that. Cant tell who winns, but a sturdier knife allways give me a better feeling.

Great video. Just ordered a Kansbol as for me it seems to be a solid all rounder. I'd take my fasthawk and a folding saw with me which would compliment the Kansbol. I get the 'if all I had is one tool' argument which makes perfect sense too but for me my set up is a system and not a single piece of gear. I'd rather have a couple of tools with me that carry out their function well rather than one tool that will make do. Yep you could carry an axe with the garberg but for me it then seems a bit redundant. That said in its own right the garberg is a great knife too and I can see why others would want one.

That garberg is just awesome !! They both are great knifes, but as far as the both go i think the garberg is a tough work horse survival knife and the kansbol is more a bush crafter for more of the fine details in carvings, traps, skinning. I would love to have them hahaha! i have a few moras now and have already fallen in love with thease knifes. Id put them up against the best out there and the prices are just amazing/ best for the buck. Thanks for another great video

I have a big Becker BK 9. That handles all the big chopping, hacking, splitting tasks, but I needed a smaller knife that fits more of the smaller bushcraft tasks. That's why I chose the lighter Kansbol to fit in a small bag that supplements the larger knife. I think the compound grind of the kansbol makes it the more versatile choice, while sacrificing some toughness of the thicker Garberg. If one can ONLY have one knife, maybe the Garberg would be better.

Two different knives. Also two of my favorite knives. The Garberg is obviously better for heavier duty tasks and the Kansbol is better for around the camp utility tasks. If I could only pick one, I would obviously pick the Garberg as it is far better for Bushcraft and if you find yourself in a survival situation. But for every day life and camping, Kansbol all the way. Perfect slicer for food Prep and can do all the heavy duty tasks, just not as easily and as reliable as the Garberg

Mora Companion- great knive for simple every day cuting tasks. But just for that. Perfect budget option only for those who had never try Kansbol. Mora Kansbol- fantastic knive for food prepare and wood cuting. Shape and steel is in another level than Companion. Kansbol is a little bit too light and too thin for biger wood. But have fantastic balance for small hand. Perfect edc- for price and performance. Mora Garberg- perfect tool for wood cuting and for hard tasks in the forest. I recomend this knive for people who have big hands and very strong hand grip. Kansbol and Garberg is an example of perfect and simple knives.

Kansbol, of course. The Garberg is Mora response to all the “me too” requests for full tang. Why do we need full tang? Because all the “experts” tell us we do. Let’s just close our eyes and think back on all those knives we’ve snapped in half out in the field because they weren’t full tang. Ridiculous. Good on Mora for responding to the market demands, but they set a price point way at the top of the band. And kept it there. So good on all you guys for buying into the full tang hype; thanks for supporting a great company. Personally I’ll go buy two Bushcraft Blacks or two Kansbols for about the price of a Garberg. And I don’t like the handles on either of these, John. Too slick and too little guard. Companion or Bushcraft Black handle is way better.

First of all, thanks for another great vid. One thing you didn’t mention is price. On amazon, the Garberg is selling for about double the price of the Kansbol. I bought the kansbol a year ago; it’s a great knife. I didn’t need the real heavy duty Garberg, as I have other knives in that category. My advice would be: if money is no object, get BOTH! If you must pick one and you need something really heavy duty, get the Garberg, but otherwise, if what you want is a step up from the average Mora Companion, the Kansbol is a great choice. When taking price in to account, the Kansbol wins.

AS Garberg was just $25 on Amazon a couple days ago (with the Molle Multimount). I would probably have gone with the Kansbol if the Garberg hadn’t been so inexpensive. As always, it comes down to your needs and usage. If I want a camping knife, I’m going to grab the Kansbol. In the grand scheme of things to do outdoor, it’s just a more well rounded knife. If I want a heavy bushcraft or survival knife, I’m going to grab something other than a Garberg. Esee 5 or 6? Something slightly longer and beefier that can do bushcraft and survival duties properly. I really don’t see a place for the Garberg at all other than for Morakniv to claim they have a full tang knife. When you ask the question, which knife does its respected duties better, the Kansbol is the overwhelming winner, in my opinion.

The reality is that these are two different types of knives. I own both. The Garberg has better steel, is thicker and would stand up better. The Kansbol is so thin on the forward end of the blade, that is a liability. Around the camp kitchen, if you needed to process fish or game, the Kansbol wins. I really don’t pay much heed in comparing knives of different design features. I own the Garberg and think it is the best designed knife I own and it pperforms bushcraft tasks beautifully. The Kansbol is a fine knife, I’m sure, but I have other knives I use that perform those tasks better. So, in the final analysis, it’s a matter of preference. @@danielcesena7951 Sure Daniel. First let me say that knives are personal and people really love the knives they have. For me, knives are about performance and esthetics. Knives have 3 components: type of steel, geometry of the blade, and the handle, or scales. I already said I think the More is an excellent knife and I really like the handle. A perfect design in my mind because it is comfortable and does not cause hot spots. So what do I have? I carry my Mora Garberg and the Mora carving knife. I also have the 1095 K-bar BK-9, Bk-16, and BK 17. The BK-9 is an outstanding chopper and big bushcraft knife for producing firewood. Its big, its heavy and it is a badass knife. I like the BK-16 for a camp knife and food preparation because it has a flat grind which is perfect. The scandi grind Mora is not a flexible as the flat grind BK-16. The flat grind doesn't do feather sticks as nicely as the scandi grind, but it does food processing and camp chores better. I also have numerous Swiss Army Knife and I don't leave home without it. I also have several Buck knives because that is what I grew up with and I'm nostalgic about Buck. In short, there are all sorts of quality knives to choose from and my personal choices are Mora, K-bar, and SAK. I don't like to argue about the "1 best knife" for bushcraft. But, if you pin me down, the 1 knife I would always take in emergency/survival situations is the BK-9. Its not ideal for all tasks, but I can do all tasks with it. If I'm going out for several days, I will take the Bk-9, the BK-16, and the swiss army Huntsman. If I'm just going out for a day hike, I will take the Mora Garberg and the SAK Huntsman. But, in all fairness, there are many excellent knives from which to choose. I'm not a 100% fan of the scandi grind and I would prefer the saber grind (BK-9) and the flat grind (BK-16 and SAK). If we are going to have a contest on making feather sticks, I choose the Mora Garberg. Hope this helps.

Garberg for me, simple to sharpen and is the thickness I need in a knife. Full tang is a bonus

What makes you think the Kansbol would be any different to sharpen? It’s the same Scandi edge from tip to grip.

These knives are pretty much almost the same, however the Garberg is a more robust knife and is made for the heavier duty tasks like heavy battonning, maybe chopping small saplings. its full tang for the heavier duty stuff. The Kansbol is a great knife to use for every day outdoor tasks but is capable of some heavy tasks. in my opinion i would take out the Garberg in the field and use the kansbol as a back up knife, maybe set it up in my car or something.

First off I have to admit that I own dozens of custom blades as well as high end production knives due to my buckskinning participation. I reallt do like and own the Garberg, Kansbol and bushcraft Mora's. For heavier field use the Garberg is quite good, now as for finner camp crafting and chores the Kansbol is the better choice. Now all around bush crafting the bushcraft wins. As a servival blade I'd go with thd Garberg. For all the above reasons is why I have all three, purpose built knives.

I would go with the KANSBOL - if you need a beefier knife move to a Becker or ESSE. For a handy light weight knife go with the Kansbol oooor Bushcraft Black love em a lot. Great price & perform excellent. Those SWEDE'S

Have you tested out a Real steel knife? I was trying to decide between the kansbol and a real steel coyote blade Kansbol is half the price so that plays a factor into it, but the real steel is full tang so idk

Dylan Mitchell - I have a Real Steel Bushcraft 2 and I love it. I do not own a Garberg, but have handled one. I think the Real Steel is a much nicer knife and it's about half the price of a Garberg.

I would say the Kansbol is the smarter choice. Part of it has to do with price point. Both perform the same tasks, the Kansbol better at some the Garberg at others. The Kanbol is just a really good knife. The Garberg seems to be trying to be more than a Bushcraft/camp knife, as if it is trying to be a light survival. Knife. There are knives that serve that purpose better that are at equal, even better price points than the Garberg. As such I would say at half the price the Kansbol is better for the tasks these two knives do well. Want a ~5 inch survival knife spend the same money on a BK2 or save money and get a Schf10

I think it's a tie. I own companions and a Garberg, thinner blades slice easier, but the Garberg has to be used with slightly different angle. It's a tie.

Not just the full tang, you're getting a thicker/more robust blade. Plus a higher quality steel. The exposed pommel is useful as well :)

Indeed BOTH are excellent. I own only two Mora's which I figure to be the best buy combo of the whole line.....the Light My Fire Mora with it's fire steel & thinner sculpted blade (very similar to the Kansbol) and the Mora Companion HD with it's more roubust (thicker) blade, (similar to the Garberg thickness) Of course both are rat tails. 1) In Mora knives I don't care about a solid tang at all. I own some large, 1/4 inch thick, one pounder survival knives/choppers/etc. 2) Back to true Mora value....both of my knives were purchased for $44.85 total. By comparison, the Garberg is currently listed for $89.99 by itself. Add the 34 dollars for the Kansbol and well.......that's $123.99. 3) Sooooooooo...I would not buy either of the two reviewed knives. 4) I have nothing but praise for Mora knives.....but I pinch each penny. Always will I guess. Great review as usual Jon. All the best from Arizona!! ;-) Merry Christmas and a healthy and happy New Year to you and yours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

your clothing choice seems to be mostly in support of the garberg (black) and less in favor of the kansbol (green) I have owned the kansbol for a year now. It’s my truck survival knife. never even picked up a garberg, but I would bet you couldn’t go wrong with either

Great comparison! How about: 1. Garberg stainless. 2. Vix/Leatherman. Should cover 90% of your outdoor needs. If Garberg is small for you or you're more into survival consider FALLKNIVEN or ESEE.

The Gerber wins. A full tang, a thicker blade, more is better. If called upon to perform above and beyond, like supporting your weight while climbing, I would place my trust in the Gerberg.
