One of the questions I frequently get is if I would show my bushcraft knives for a video thinking I have a whole collection of customs and the truth is although I have had many I own none other than Mora Knives at this time so here they are. This is not a knock on customs in any way as I am a fan but rather to show the lower priced options available that will do you just fine if you do not go that route -hope you like it

Reminds me of a conversation I had with a blacksmith about files, I was debating some unbranded ones and some Bahco at 3x the price. He pointed out the expensive ones will probably be a bit better, but are very unlikely to be 3x better. I believe they call it the law of diminishing returns.

Very good review. My collection of Mora knifes started 1975 when I visited Sweden the first time. Since then I've been there nearly every year and most times I visited the Mora factory. During the time my children grew up and went with me for fishing and canoing there. So my knifes became less and less because my son and also my daughter let them dissapear in their backpacks when we returned to Germany. But still we have some rather old ones which have more than 35 years. And they still do their job☺

Thanks Doug!! I've wrestled with the thought of buying a custom knife for some time now. I just go back to the same thing I think your saying and reinforcing in my thoughts is Mora just builds a great knife. I, like you, have most types and I just like them. Thanks for sharing your, as always, straight forward thoughts on the subject. You're much appreciated!!

You have a copy of your mindset in another part of the world. Through decades of loving, collecting, and using knives all around the globe, my most favourite knives are Mora Companion Carbon, Mora Companion 12c27 stainless, and Opinel No. 8 carbon version. I grab these ones automatically when need a blade though I have many fancy lovely custom knives from all big names. To be honest I never realised why. Your videos are really really great. Thank you 🔪

Great vid Doug. I too find myself coming back to my Mora’s more and more. Great designs and performance that just plain work. I prefer the blade designs of Companion and Bushcraft series. The Garberg and Kansbol are great too and I prefer their handles over the Bushcraft series. In short, I am take my axe/Hatchet and my Companion with sharpened spine and have everything I could possibly need in the woods. It’s hard to argue with a design that’s been around for thousands of years and just plain works for everything from BC, hunting, fishing and food prep. Thanks for sharing bro.

Nice video, and a great, honest review of some excellent knives. I still have a few customs left in my collection, but agree there's not a lot they can do that a Mora can't. And they're so much more stress free to carry and use. I just picked up an Eldris, and love it - very handy, useful little knife. After watching this, I need a 106, a Bushcraft and a Garberg to round out the pile. Thanks for the great video. Please keep them coming.

Hey Doug, Thanks for sharing ALL of your experiences with the Mora knives. As a knife enthusiast, I appreciate your opinions and knowledge of them. (Fantastic vid) ! Also, we thoroughly enjoy watching the " Carving and Coffee" series. We especially REALLY LIKED the one C & C VIDEO where you were by the lake, with your beautiful dog, with coffee on the go as the small rather tiny waves were lapping up on the beach with the sounds of the lake water; it was an absolutely very calming laid back vid. As a relatively new subscriber, about 18 months, the content that you put out, your sense of humor, as well as the collaborations you've done with other KZfaqrs like Joe Robinet; you made the funny comment about his channel, something to the effect of " he (Joe) has a little known KZfaq channel" and the other vid of yours depicting you "stealing" some wood from Shawn's wood pile was freaking HILARIOUS! YOU'VE GOT A GREAT CHANNEL! KEEP DOING WHAT YOU'RE DOING! BIG TIME FAN IN ARIZONA

You’re helpful as always... I really like your point a regular knife can make the same job of a “luxury “ one week pay 💰 custom. I should say that I like your videos as you don’t focus only in promoting sponsors crap but you teach simple -daily leaving life, you go hunting and don’t focus in promoting the gear, carving the same... I know some of the other people have to promote the sponsor crap because that’s the way of leaving but I love to see that you always focus on simplicity of life -Weldon and thank you buddy. I hope you read this one day 👊

I love MORA knives! Thank you for doing this video! It brings me back. My first fixed blade knife was a MORA with the hand guard and wood handle except it had a sharpened grind all the way to the point. I was about 11 or 12 and I found in my granddads old tackle box and asked him for it. “ you got to ask your mother” he said in his deep booming voice. Well she said “ ok I guess” there is a story behind it I guess he got it in Sweden a long time ago.

I agree. I bought a mora light my fire knife with the striker and I use it for everything. It goes on hiking trips because it’s light, I take it fishing for filleting, it’s dressed countless deer and a CO public lands elk and we actually use it in the kitchen over our expensive kitchen block knives for cutting meat for stews etc. Amazing knives for the cost. Plus it’s blaze orange so I haven’t lost it yet!

Thanks for sharing the collection of users.Picked up my first Mora right after I received a copy of Green Woodworking by Drew Langsner in 1989. It was similar to the old Mora #2/0 Classic without the red paint and came with a leather sheath. Picked up two more from Ragweed Forge for my twin boys when they started hunting around 2005 when they were offering waxed leather sheaths. Great knives for large and small game along with being an excellent solid knife.

I'm a Mora lover as well! I have the Classic #2, the Companion, and the Light My Fire for my daughter. The Light My Fire is a cool knife with a great fero rod. My Classic #2 is my most used and is still in the original crappy sheath (I plan to make a leather one soon). The Companion was my first and still stands by in my pack, sharp and ready for action. Great video! Thanks!

I haven't gone the custom route, but have owned a bunch of $80 - 100 knives. I actually bought an F1 from you, a few years ago. Those have all been sold or gifted away, except for 1 Enzo Trapper that never gets used. A Mora 611 was my 1st "bushcraft" knife & now I'm onto the Garberg, along with the Basic Carver(slojd). I still love watching videos & reading reviews of all the exotic stuff, but honestly can't bring myself to spend the money. Thanks from Guelph.

The Mora curved edge is great for long cuts but is also good for the curves in a spoon handle, spoon bowl (the outside), and the transition from handle to bowl end. I've really enjoyed using that curved blade, designed after the Scandinavian "Sloyd" pattern. Smaller curves, smaller blade (the 120). The first video I watched was "Little Man". The straight-edged Helvie produces what the Scandinavians call "Flat Plane" carvings, like your great little guys. They use the Sloyds for making kitchen tools. Unbelievable how you make one of your cuts do the work of five of mine.

Nice concise vid Doug about the Mora Knives. I own the basic Mora Companion and the Bushcraft Black and use them around my homestead, especially the Companion. The only reason I purchased the Bushcraft Black is because of the 90 degree spine for use with a ferrule rod (I did file the spine on the Companion). Tools are only as good as the person using them regardless of their cost. Cheers!

Your Mora Knife episode led me to remember my own journey from 'honking big belt knives' to knives that met my camp needs. I was not likely to need to confront a bear where I grew up and camped in Central New York State. Mostly, I needed slicing knives (until I began to slaughter sheep for my Muslim friends in Arkansas (of all places.) I commissioned a big Damascus steel 'Green River' knife from now legendary smith, Bob Hollar. Never needed to use it; too big to use...and, like you, I gifted it to a collector. I watch many KZfaq videos from Europe and North America: the conclusion is that good steel, mobile blade geometries and decent packaging make for 'life long' using knives.

Thing I like about the Mora Classic is that with it's wooden handle it doesn't look out of place in the kitchen whereas most others look like they should be returned to the workshop/garage/boat/battledress - pair it with a decent sheath and I could see myself using it all. the. time...

I have the bushcraft black, 106 and 120. All very reasonably priced and all do a great job, I can't see the point in paying over the odds for a 'pretty' knife, like you said Doug, you lose a Mora you can afford to replace it easy enough.

A young man usually starts off with a Mora, then he buys a few expensive knives during his time only to realize that the cheap Mora did everything that the expensive knife does and that it actually felt better to use a cheap knife (a tool) rather then an expensive one (an heirloom). Good video mate. I love my Mora 2000 (Kansbol-esque).

Great video! I love every knife I own but the Bushcraft Black is my favorite. I have beat the crap out of mine( just to see if it will take it).It fits my hand like a glove, is easy to sharpen, and batons like a champ all for around $50.I have the ss Garberg but the BB fits my hand way better.
