Having PTSD is hard. Having what the VA calls a “Moral Injury” can be even worse. It’s PTSD without a clear and obvious cause or effect.
The VA won’t give you VA disability for PTSD unless you can prove a specific event was the stressor for your condition. That is why so many VA disability claims are denied every year. The VA wants you to show them a specific event on your service record that gave you PTSD.
A moral injury is even more fluid because it’s all internal. You can’t point to a scar and say “I got PTSD from this!”
In this video:

What is a moral injury?
A veteran can sustain a moral injury whether they are in combat or not. Even seeing something happen to someone else can cause you to have a moral injury. When the effects of an event cause you pain or other trauma mentally, spiritually, emotionally, or even socially - that is considered a moral injury.

I had a major fall down a flight of stairs in Germany during a snow storm while walking back to the barracks. My head caught every cement stair while sliding down them. I was out for a while and remember waking up but I don't know how long I was out. I never told anybody about this incident because we were tough.

I was physically assaulted by my instructor at my MOS School in 1986 but have no proof , it happened in front of the rest of my classmates , kicked slapped and shoved . I went to alcohol rehab a couple years later while still in service . I've struggled with drugs and alcohol and self confidence . I've been to rehab 2 times since being discharged and been arrested for meth twice . I feel it's ruined my life and the VA somewhat agrees and one Dr. said there is a connection but now they are shutting me down when I mention it after a couple months of therapy they think I'm doing ok .

I'm sorry to hear about these challenges after your service. We hear stories like this all the time from our clients. Mental health ratings are tricky, since treatment with medication and/or therapy can help mitigate symptoms. We'd be happy to discuss the specifics of your claim with you to see if there's any way we can help. We're at 800-544-2108, or you can request a free consult at www.woodslawyers.com/contact/

I am at 60% right now from Migraines 50% and Tinnitus 10% for a total of 60%. I was diagnosed with Apnea , they gave me a cpap machine and oxygen, and now they have paid for Inspire and I have implanted. Can I still get a rating for it ? Currently they have me at 0% , because I didn't know I could get Apnea as a secondary, because the drugs they gave me for my headaches made me gain weight which caused me the Apnea. Am I getting that right or am I way off on my thinking ? Should I still be able to get a 50% rating from the Apnea, also if they do give me a 50% rating on the Apnea would that put me at 100% ?

Based on the information you provided, it sounds like you have a sleep apnea diagnosis, and you require a CPAP machine. If a doctor can attest this is at least as likely as not related to your military service, either directly or secondarily, you may have a claim for a 50% rating for sleep apnea. That would bring your combined rating to 80%, and, if you are unable to work due to your conditions, you would meet criteria for individual unemployability (TDIU). TDIU pays at the same monthly rate as a 100% schedular rating--currently $3,332.06 per month, if you have no spouse or dependents. We'd be happy to discuss your claim to see if we can help.
