Having PTSD is hard. Having what the VA calls a “Moral Injury” can be even worse. It’s PTSD without a clear and obvious cause or effect.
The VA won’t give you VA disability for PTSD unless you can prove a specific event was the stressor for your condition. That is why so many VA disability claims are denied every year. The VA wants you to show them a specific event on your service record that gave you PTSD.
A moral injury is even more fluid because it’s all internal. You can’t point to a scar and say “I got PTSD from this!”

What is a moral injury?
A veteran can sustain a moral injury whether they are in combat or not. Even seeing something happen to someone else can cause you to have a moral injury. When the effects of an event cause you pain or other trauma mentally, spiritually, emotionally, or even socially - that is considered a moral injury.
