I've been a victim of this shameful situation. Even though we were a group of 3 boys and 2 girls, we were on separate vehicles, not even travelling as couples. They even asked us our castes. We said that we are progressive people and we didn't even know our caste, neither our father's incomes, nor their job description. They asked us to call our parents for which we didn't agree on. It was tough. They told it's a precautionary measure on their behalf since students gather and do shameful stuff(sex, threesomes), take videos of it and then complain later. They quote 'what if you girls do stuff like this and come to us? Then who is responsible?' After an hour or so of argument, they demanded a bribe, which we gave just not to get harassed futher. Later We all sat in an uncomfortable silence knowing that we've been victim of violation of human rights. I should've known better. Thank you for addressing this.

I was stuck in a similar situation but didn't lose my cool in front of the cops and neither the girl did. I was in car with this girl and we were just talking, suddenly 2 cops came out of nowhere and started knocking on my window and asked us rudely 'ye kya kr rhe ho' i told him nothing we were just talking . He threatened us that he will take us to police station if we don't give him our parent's number. I'm a law student I knew that he can't actually do anything but he can misuse his power and create trouble for us. Though i was playing it cool , i was prettified inside. I told them confidently that i don't talk to my parents as we are not on talking terms But still if you want to embarrass us in front of our parents you can come to our home we live nearby and they know about us after hearing that he had nothing to say then he asked me for 500 Rupees i told him i have only 100 Rupees and he took it. My bluff worked , I'm from Delhi and this happened to me at Noida but i had to bribe him 100 Rupees. In my opinion do not get scared if you were not doing anything wrong, just be normal, act smartly and do not lose your cool.✨

In 2017, I was in a park with my fiance. Police asked the same question - "let us talk with your parents". Our parents fully knew that we were dating, but we were in no mood to relent. We said as an adult we can go anywhere. They made us wait behind a van for 1 hour for some big officer is to arrive. The big officer never arrived and then a low level constable came and directly asked to "please him so that we are pleased". We refused that as well and said 'take us to the police station if you think we were doing something illegal or you want to question us and we would cooperate, but we would not call our parents first'. After 1.5 hours, we were let go.

I've had already experienced horrific case where I was just crossing the road and they just hold me and the other boy crossing across whom i've never ever met, ohh the bad memory it has with me!

Some policemen are so stubborn. I was legit out with my cousin and the same thing happened. I told them : 1) she is the cousin (knowing they would not agree) 2) I told them that I would not disclose information or talk to my parents. (There was actually a family issue then it was not worth bothering them) *After that they let us go with some talking and all and while we were waiting for the metro two of the constables LEGIT came running towards me and arrested me I knew resisting them would just create a bad image of me I just pulled my hands up and submitted myself* I was in Custody for 5 hrs I guess after that my cousin already brought some relatives on site they helped get free But the good thing is we took this matter to Court JUST SO it sets an example that this is wrong. And we were lucky the justice was served pretty soon and the officers involved were charged with high fine and some months of suspension. No rash decisions of course.

I once took my gf (ex).....to a bike ride...and there was a sudden police check point....they stopped us and asked for my bike papers... I showed him and then they asked for my mom's number I was scared and had to give him....he complained that your son is roaming with a girl ....my mom was in a bus and couldn't hear clearly what he said😂....now he asked my gf(ex) for her dad's no......she was clever as a fox....she had given me her cell phone before the ride to keep in my pocket and it was silent....so when the cop asked for her dad's no ...she gave her own no and told that her dad is a very busy man and don't usually pick up calls... meanwhile the cop called her phone and it was ringing in my pocket....The cop made us stop for a while hoping for a bribe...but we didn't give him a single penny...so after some time he let us go.

Can't believe this was recommended to me and I can relate to this with a horrifying incident which took place in my city. The year was 2018. Me and my wife were walking back from work and we sat at a park to catch our breaths as we were tired. The park had seats which catered to all the citizens and children. We were wearing blazers as it was our dress code. I saw an old man who was walking on the path dialing a phone soon as we sat for hardly 3 minutes. 5 minutes later police car came and a PC spoke to the old man and he pointing finger at us. The police constable menacingly walking towards us from the other gate finger pointing and signing to get up. When he came close, I said what's the matter. He started to tell us to go get a room or go home. This was truly infuriating and I was in shock. I said, we weren't doing anything illegal. Are you insane? He started to yell at me. My wife was concerned and I didn't wish go further the conversation with that ignorant fool who didn't understand citizen safety or de-escalating a situation. More than me, I was concerned of my wife what if something might happen and we got out without putting up an argument. We were sitting distance apart in an open public vicinity at 5 in the evening and genuinely catching our breath. If this is what I am being a part of being a responsible citizen, I am truly ashamed of the policing by the police. To serve and protect is a pipe dream.

The thing is as they say, Yeh sab sunne k liye achha hain but practical nhi hain. Unless we have police reforms, with body cam, dash cams attached to every police and their vehicles, its always gonna be my word against their's.

Faced same situation, that's correct police officials are either looking for bribe or assert dominance, ki yaha kya karra hai ? . So police asked me to call my dad, i declined, he (my dad)asked whether he lives nearby, to which i told me yes, he's at home, and I won't call him. If you have any problem arrest me or call your superior I'll talk to them. I won't call my dad. Yes he was offended, but he didn't do anything and left mumbling.

I find it extremely weird that in our country individuals over 20 are asked to give a call to their parents. I recall a situation that happened in 2019 in Mumbai where a 22 year old woman was forced to give a call to her parents because she was allegedly roaming with her boyfriend who in fact was her colleague at work.

I have been in similar kind of situation, they took me to the police station , fortunately left my girlfriend alone ( who's my wife now ). Eventually in the PS, they took 100 rupees fine and let me go. P.s. - I was just roaming around in the park with my GF and not having 'Coitus' 😀. This is a serious issue in India, needs to be addressed fast.

What I Believe in Is Throw a Bigger Card to the Police. I remember a scenario when There was an ASI Who Tried to Make Me Pay for Something that I didn't Do ( Fake Challan Scenario ). These situations are actually a test of your confidence. I have been in harassed multiple times by the police, as a guy it is best to be assertive, tell them that you're a lawyer so you know the law, throw Article 21 and some legal jargons their way and never allow the Police to push you to the defensive.

An EXACTLY same scenario happened with me, I was sitting on a bench with my male friend, reading him my poems and having a healthy conversation however a random man came out of nowhere with so much hate in his eyes asking us to get out of the park and never ever enter again, I tried to question if it was his park to which he was infuriated and threatened to call our parents. I didn't want to stretch the thing and so we left. This was so humiliating and sad for us. We felt shackled to talk in our own country.

A few days back, i was stopped by police and in my car, i was with my sister, they wanted to see paperwork, license and all...i had all of them....they started asking for pollution papers i showed him the purchase date of car and invoice (you don't have to check pollution for 1 year after purchasing car) it was 6 months old only.....then he kept harassing me for papers and all i had everything and i knew i wasn't at fault i got aggressive and told him fiercely you can cut my challan but you have to explain to your seniors on what basis you did that, then he asked for 500 rupees i said i only have 100 rupees....then he said okay give me that....i took out 100 rupees infront of his seniors and shouted aa lo uncle...100 rupaye, he was embarrassed and took me on side and started laughing nervously and told me, sadi police walia di tankha hi ni hundi eh tan bs dara dru k le lenia...chla ja tu....i felt a bit bad but i was angry soo i just went away.....if you know you're right, don't get scared just answer them confidently

They asked me to give my father num but I told tat I am 19 n I don't stay with my family anymore and they asked my girls father num and she told tat her family knows about us and she gave my friends num and my frnds voice was very deap and my frnd told the police tat we know about them and soon they are marrying each other (if this failed then I might call my brother bcz bhiya vediyak hai 😂)

Something similar happend to me when I was just 16 years old. I met one of my guy friend at a public bus stop and we sat down and talked for around 20mins and we were absolutely doing nothing wrong. Two of police guys noticed that and stood in front of us, called out the guy and asked about where he stay and college name and why are we waiting on bus stop and finally abused and scolded him for no reason. They embarrassed us and asked us to leave and so we walked away. This happend to us in Mumbai during day time.

Sir i need some guidance because this is very common in India. Even i faced such situation 4 years back. She was my school crush but never proposed her in school because of fear of the society. Then we moved to another state and city for higher studies and there we become friends. I was roaming around with her in a park and police came and threatened us. She went in tears and then she never agreed to meet me again. That bloody moral policing has cost me my love of life. Our relationship was not even started then.
