The same way we don’t click with some people and then later become friends with them is a similar experience with books. The first time I read Emily Dickinson I did not care for her poems because they did not read like conventional poetry-but now I love her and very grateful for all she wrote, and thankful I did not lay aside her works! I love this video, instead of a "favourite books" list. I think if you only ever talked about "The Maltese Falcon" it would get tiring, but you have so many other books that it's all good... and hearing how passionate you are for it is worth hearing all the time. Thanks for sharing.

I got The Age of Innocence for my birthday, so I'll keep your change of opinion in mind when I read it, LOL. I'm thankful for Psycho (and to you for recommending it!) because it was the first book I read this year and I haven't stopped thinking about it since and wishing I was still reading it. Sometimes I worry that I've read all the books I'm ever going to love, but that one reminded me that 5-star reads you didn't even know existed can pop up anywhere, anytime. I'm also thankful for Candide, because I got to have a fun conversation with my professor about it, wrote a fun paper on it about social media turning everyone into satirists, and that paper got me a 98% from said professor whose grading system considers an A+ "a work of art." Two American books stand out, one fiction and one non-fiction, for which I am thankful to have read this year are _Mason & Dixon,_ by Thomas Pynchon, and _The Personal Memoirs of U. S. Grant._
