Let’s look at some small trees for your garden: dwarf and small conifers, mainly evergreen, in all sorts of shapes, colors and textures! Here I visit Burkland Gardens in Mt. Vernon WA, a nursery specializing in dwarf and unusual conifers.
This video is part 2 of 2. Here’s a link to the rest of the tour:

I’ve never really been a conifer fan for my yard & garden but the dwarf varieties are quite interesting! I’ll have to pay more attention to that side of the nurseries from now on.

Thanks Valerie. I think I may have caught the bug a little bit myself. My landscape is quite deciduous

Beautiful and interesting! Being in zone 8 I am very limited to wha conifers I can grow! Bummer! Thanks Jason! Blessings!

Thanks. But why would zone 8 limit you so much? These all seem to be much hardier than your zone would require.

At 3:10 I noticed the pots are inside larger pots. Im assuming this is to keep the potting medium from freezing over winter? Is there anything else between the pots, like leaves or straw? Such a beautiful range of colors, makes me want to add more to my garden!

Thanks Jim. I noticed the same thing, but no, there was no other fill, just pot within pot.

Watching this tour of Burkland Gardens made me feel like a kid looking through the Sears Christmas Wish Book and dreaming! Many of your videos make me feel that way Jason and my wish now is for acreage so I can grow lots of these amazing plants!

Thank you for sharing! It is really amazing how many conifers are now available for smaller and midsize gardens -- if you know where to look. But I would note that the Nootka Sparkling Arrow, although a tighter footprint, is estimated (in the Northeast) to reach 30 ft in 30 years according to some… These trees are not super slow growers, they put on height - at least in Zone 6 New England…. This is an absolute must have just not small…

Thanks for adding that note Emma - I'm not sure what I noted about ultimate height for this variety, but there were others in the group as well that can eventually top out in the 20-50ft range, so I suppose I'll have to leave it to individual gardeners to decide what's small enough or slow enough to fit into their landscapes.

Were you guys wearing mics because it sounded like you were inside and not more than 5 ft apart, great looking trees also

Thanks. Yes, I used a couple of wireless mics by Saramonic. They tend to pick up a lot of wind and background noise, but happily on this day it was relatively calm.

Really interesting. I lived near Seattle (in Snoqualmie) and I had my 2nd child in a Seattle hospital in 1968. It is beautiful countryside up there. I live in Florida; I long for the conifer varieties that grow up in the northwest, especially the blue colored ones! Can you help me understand why they don't grow in the southeast? Thanks you.

I know some of these trees (like Blue Spruce) are reported to decline in climates with warm humid summers - but I'm afraid I can't say which other species specifically

Awesome video, thank you for making it! Are you allowed to purchase those trees and bring them across the board to Canada?
@FraserValleyRoseFarm

Thanks Tom. Not without first getting a USDA inspection for crossing the border, so I'll see if I can find a few on the Canadian side before I'd bother with the extra work and expense.

I've been looking for miniature conifer sellers that ship within or to Canada (quebec), but no luck for unique ones like this. Do you have any recommendations?
