I thought the same since the draft. That's the pick I am most excited about in my life and the most higher ceiling since Lafleur. I know people were pretty excited back then with Wickenheiser but I was too young to know what was going on. But it's clear no pick I have ever seen the habs made has this much potential from day one

Hearing the name Guy Lafleur might mike someone scoff and claim that its a ridiculous take, but the claim is correct. No one is saying he's going to be as good as Guy. What's being said is this is the best offensive prospect the Habs have had since Guy. Two very different things. The thing is, as much as this is praise for Demidov, it's also a glaring indictment of the Habs draft history in the past how many years?... well lets just say in the modern era and leave it at that.

That 84 draft was crazy good to Montreal. Drafted Peter Svoboda 5th overall, Shayne Corson 8th overall, Stephane Richer 27th overall and Patrick Roy 51st overall. 84 draft basically set the Canadiens up for their 86 & 93 cups.

@@jasdosanjh7211 I feel the same way regarding the Habs last few drafts and believe there are potential similarities to 86, 89*, and 93. They lost in 89 but they were in the Final. They seem to currently be on pace for two 40 year Cup reunions.

I would agree . Been a Habs since the late 60’s . There has been nobody since Lafleur which is why fans were so upset about the pass on Mishkov . Time will tell of course but Demidov looks pretty impressive and seems up to the challenge .

I can see the first wave of the Power Play with Caufield and Slaf on wings, Dach as the Bumper, and Hutson and Demidov on the blue line. Back in the 70s, Lafleur was often used on the point during PPs, that was mostly due to his powerful shot, and in the case of Demidov, his hockey IQ at finding the best play possible (same as Hutson).

@guypaquette7549
@guypaquette7549 25 күн бұрын
@@dav4303 That's the point. Eventually, Suzuki will be a more useful "Patrice Bergeron" type of player than an actual 1st PP player. He could well be a perfect fit on the second wave of the PP as well as a perfect fit on the PK, first or second wave. This would increase his efficiency with better managed on-ice time.

A few corrections or comments: Steve Shutt was not selected in the same draft as Flower but one year later in 1972. Selected after Lafleur in 1971 was a player you are forgetting in terms of talent and greatness: Big Bird. Then how about the best pick by the Habs since Lafleur, a certain goaltender who led the team to two Cups in 86 and 93. The last player to score 50 goal is not Shutt who did it in 76-77. The same season, Flower did it and then he did it 3 more years in a row after that. Then Stephane Richer did it twice since then.

Crazy story about Demidov and the Habs. Seems like Habs co-director of scouting Nick Bobrov have interrest to draft Demidov before the 2023 NHL Draft because he went to Russia in person to see him play. His father is a scout and a high-level member of the direction for the SKA, and seems like he gived somes infomations about Michkov and Demidov before any teams in the NHL (and that's all begins for the Michkov bad attitudes rumours......). Seems like he advise him to wait another year to draft Demidov instead of Michkov, because for multiples reasons, and that's why Montreal selected Reinbacher at the 2023 NHL Draft instead of Michkov. Also, Kent Hughes confirmed that he didn't went to Florida to meet him (instead of somes teams like Chicago, Anaheim and Columbus), because he haved all the infos about him because of Nick Bobrov and also because they didn't wanted to show their interrest on Demidov to the other teams.

Aren’t any of you concerned that this guy will be just about to make his move to Montreal and they (the Russians) will simply send him to the front to be destroyed. No? Really?! He’ll never play in Montreal and all the knives will be out for Kent Hughes. I really hope not, but I can’t see him getting out of St. Petersburg all that easily, unless Mats Naslund can place a call to some Swedish commandos to do him a favour.

Anyone and i mean anyone that could compare Demidov to Lafleur is clearly on crack and needs rehab , Lafleur on one of the greatest winning franchises all-time leaders Lafleur is second in goals scored 518 , first in assists 728 , points number 1 1246 , the top three skaters for Montreal to me are Lafleur , M Richard and Beliveau they are legends the player Demidov is an unproven player so whoever is comparing him to a legend is clearly high on crack so please do not slander legends with this comparison . even they are just trying to draw a comparison to a top Habs number one draft pick save us all and find something else to write instead of trying to compare some unproven bum to Lafleur .
