years ago a guy took me to the rhyolite outcroppings down below Gettysburg . you could see where they were breaking off big pieces from the outcroppings. we even found some of the hammerstones they used at that spot. it was deep in the woods.

The amazing thing is that there are rhyolite artifacts and flakes up here in Northern Pa and into New York on sites along the Susquehanna River, but the only source is down that way and into Maryland and Virginia. It shows they had trading networks or were traveling down there for it thousands of years ago. Pretty interesting to think about. Thanks for watching, appreciate it!

I just came across you site and subscribed. I live in southeast Lancaster Co. Pa. about 12 miles east of the Susquehanna. Many petroglyphs are in this area on river rocks, some located in the middle of the river. I’ve been involved with the research and preservation of the petroglyphs and have reproduced Susquehannoux artifacts for the Zimmerman Museum located on the York Co. side. The artifacts were collected by a Swedish man 350-400 years ago made of leather, wolf skulls and deer tail hair. Anyway, I much enjoyed your searching and finds and though I’ve done little metal detecting along the river I’ve found many item throughout Lancaster Co. Thanks Kindly and I’m connected and looking forward to more. DaveyJO in Pennsylvania

Thanks for watching and subscribing, appreciate it! I've heard of petroglyphs being found down that way, but I've never been down there to look around. Over the years, I've also heard rumors that there were some around here, but I haven't found any. My friend and I have been talking about heading down that way maybe in the spring to try to get some permissions on old colonial era farms to metal detect, but I'd also love to do a little exploring by the river down there as well. Thanks again for watching and commenting, hope to see you again in another video! Take care and good luck!

Thanks for watching and for being a long time subscriber, I really appreciate it! I'm hoping to get out some more looking for artifacts this year, especially now that I've teamed up with my buddy Aaron, as he is very interested in finding new sites. We'll continue to do the metal detecting videos but hopefully there will be some more artifact hunting as well. Thanks again, take care!..👍

The river height has been great the past few weeks. I've been to Scovell twice just last week. Didn't find much. Few weight stones and some adder stones.

Thanks for watching! Yes, the river is definitely low right now. When I took those first clips in June, it was still up just a little bit. Only thing that makes it a little difficult is the weed growth now higher up the bank that covers some areas that are good. But I think it is definitely better when the river is this low overall.

@@nepahistoryandarchaeologys8623 It's always a battle. Either low and overgrown or high. This is why I've come to love late season hiking. November -April. Most of the brush is down and dead. I haven't been to the confluence since the wall blew out. I definitely want to scout that before the water rises again.

The water definitely is low. It isn't easy, I've been doing this a long time, it takes time to develop an eye for it. Just look for the signs...broken fire reddened rock, pieces of flint laying around. I've heard of artifacts found in that area, it's about an hour north of me. Keep looking, feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Good luck 👍

How the heck did you find so many in one spot?
@nepahistoryandarchaeologys8623
@nepahistoryandarchaeologys8623 Жыл бұрын
Artifacts tend to be in clusters, usually when you find something there will be more there. I have found things there in the past, so it made sense to go back and revisit it. Because these sites are in the river channel, the high water changes the site every time it floods. Thanks for watching!

The only artifacts I've found this year were the ones that were in my videos. The river went up early in the winter and hasn't dropped enough yet for me to look anywhere, even though the weather has been relatively mild compared to other years. I've identified some interesting looking areas to search on some maps, so hopefully the river will cooperate and give Aaron and I a chance to check them out. Good luck!

@@jq7323 exactly what he said, I haven’t had even the slightest attempt to go walk due to the river being high tide and not dropping at all due to the amount of precipitation this time of year. Hopefully it’s gunna slow down before too long
