Today, Tension Climbing's Brand Director, Michael Rosato gives a thorough overview of the campus board and the benefits of using it as a climbing training tool. Michael then leads a campus routine containing a broad spectrum of exercises that target certain climbing skills (max power, dead-pointing, finger strength, coordination, etc.) while Quinn Spadafora follows along and adds a few campus exercises of his own. We encourage you to modify any of these exercises to your current climbing experience!
Michael's Routine:

Great video! You guys are very strong and powerful. I see you have a sweet hangboard setup on the wall. I"m looking to build a hangboard setup like that in my garage. The way you set it up is a very compact setup. Would you mind sharing a picture or build spec? I was thinking to hang something from the ceiling. But if I could get something stable just on the wall that would be ideal.

Those Large Bumps gave me large amounts of dead skin aswell lol. Definitely gonna be watching the Intensity on that one. Less full extension bumps for more accurate full crimp on the holds, if you look at you hands towards the end of that bump exercises you lost your full crimp to a half crimp. But if you want to get specific about what your training. Its something to pay attention to, it's no different then having the best form while deadlifting, training for full crimp endurance/ power triggering, is best trained with that specific grip type in mind, if you fail the half crimp but still perform the move are you just training your arm's? In that sense it would be more beneficial to hit the gym and isolate those moves... this is also something I have to constantly watch myself when doing campus training, because if your not doing it right, then my & your training will be tempered with... I hope this makes sense.

Great video! I'm sure you've been asked this before, but do you think campusing or hang boarding is most beneficial for bouldering? Or a little bit of both? I tend to hang board myself but I'm thinking of getting back into campusing. My weaknesses are dynamic movement and contact strength. Just afraid I'll lose some finger strength if I stop hang boarding.

Hey guys sorry if I missed this, but do you think about your type of grip when doing these at all? Or does it not really matter?

Typically, we like to do all of these in a four finger open position, if possible. From time to time, your pinky does slip off making a three finger open, but again, we try to focus on keeping a four finger open position.
