I did mine while I was in Iraq, but what I did was have my guys quiz me all day while we were working but another thing is don’t get frustrated if you miss something just move on and make a mark and study what I missed that night and after a week or so the list of the ones I missed was getting shorter. So study, practice the seabee song, how to put your gas mask on when someone taps their shoulders and make sure when you go to put your weapon back together someone didn’t keep your firing pin like they did me 😂. Good luck on your murder board and let me know when you get your SCW pin brother.

Recieved my ESWS in late 1979 early 1980 aboard the USS Wichita. The device requirements had yet to published when I qualified. I found out about a year later that I was not the first, a HTC had been awarded some two days eariler. Advanced to Bos'n [CWO2] in May 1984 but didn't finish my PQS for SWO, was about 10% shy when I retired out 1987.

I did sub duty and unless you got fish on your chest, nobody respects you. The main focus is damage control. Know your ventilation line ups, power supplies, and know your EAB locations. I've heard of people being blindfolded and having to touch every EAB manifold before they are even considered for a board. As long as you know your damage control stuff for every system, you'll do fine. So put in the time to go through scenarios and ask questions. You'll get shit for it, but if people see that you are trying, they will help you out. Expect lookups, and you'll hear people say "put your dick on it". The joke is, you never forget where your dick has been lol It's rough, I remember working 16-18hr shifts and studying for another 2 hrs. Anyone on nights gets fucked with drills. As long as you bust your ass people wont fuck with you as much. Def a tight knit community tho. Cranking is the best time to work on quals so don't piss off the cook or they wont give you that time to go for checkouts.

I know that in the Marine and Navy community that the Combat Action Ribbon and the Coast Guard that is the ultimate award to have. I have realized that the Navy has created the Expeditionary Badge which looks bad ass for any Sailor to get. I was a Navy Brat as a kid growing up Navy for 5 years. I respected the Navy SEALs with their Tridents, SCUBA bubbles, Navy Parachutist Wings, and Combat Action Ribbon. Same for the Marines and their RECON units. I went into the Army and got for getting shot at and IEDed as an Infantryman. I am proud of my award of the Combat Infantrymans Badge and Parachute Wings. Reason is I have had bad guys shoot at me and have jumped out of airplanes. The Army also awards those to guys who have jumped into combat by parachute and to kick ass and kill with a star on their wings called a "Mustard stain". I didn't get that privilege. Glory to those who did more bad ass stuff than what I did as an Infantryman. Shit we do as veterans has more recognition on our DD214s than what civilians can claim. You can always call BULLSHIT on those by asking them to see their actual DD214s. There is no such things as Special Operations DD214s. These are veterans from peace time who have serious inadequacies of never had to see combat in their service. Especially those who never really seen combat but got combat wards for just being there. I see these guys at the VA clinic all the time. They stay way from me and I keep the peace by not asking questions to their exploits when they were in service. The former Marines talk a lot of shit, the Army guys talk the same shit too until they see a Combat Infantry Badge, Combat Medical Badge, or the ever present Combat Action Badge. There are so much stories or even BULLSHIT to mix in. I just have my own earned badges earned on my own merit. I am just an old veteran now.

Speaking for Nicky on this one - you don't retrain, you basically are required to know all of the information and then train junior sailors to get it themselves. You also can wear it for your whole career as long as they don't take it away.
@Jesuspaid4oursins
@Jesuspaid4oursins 3 жыл бұрын
I know this is a year old, but I'll chime in. Once you learn and earn the specialist pins, you will be tasked or expected to train the junior sailors and help them understand as well. As you're doing this, this is helping you retain knowledge, why? Because studies show that the best way to learn and retain knowledge is to teach it, and pass it on yourself. So there you go.
@pattgsm
@pattgsm Жыл бұрын
@@kyles9320I agree. Once you qualify and start training others, on the platform you actually understand the material much better than just studying to qualify. Like any good trainer, you will have to find various ways to explain topics to those who don’t understand how systems integrate or those not comprehending the basics. Everyone learns at different pace. The more knowledgeable you are the more methods of training are at your disposal and you find yourself being the subject matter expert (SME) of the department and assigned to department or command level training teams. Typically at the E-5 and above level and pretty much locks you in for early promote (EP) category compared to those that get qualified go back to work and don’t go out of their way to train others or dig deeper into topics. While every Sailor is required to give training, It becomes evident almost immediately who puts in effort and who doesn’t. Non qualified Sailors know it too 😂. You get 2-3 yrs to qualify ESWS but will only take you 6-9 months if you are serious about your training. Same for EIDWS, and other community specific qualifications. Ironically, one can qualify EAWS in 3 weeks, yet it holds the same value EVAL points as the more difficult and time consuming qualifications. Not to talk bad about the Air Wing community. They work just as hard as surface and sub communities 6 months out the yr. Lol.

It’s a joke.

Get your ESWS pin it makes you an all around better sailor. This guy talks alot, and probably too much. Just get the fucking pin it's a warship your in the military if shit hit the fan be ready for war, it's what you signed up for. Mommy and Daddy aren't there to hold your hand anymore. So man/woman up and do what it takes to get the WARFARE pin!
