My seemingly infertile dairy goat has been impossible to breed. We have checked off many health and nutrition boxes with the vet, but were we missing something? An internet query on medicating an infected hoof may have led us to a solution! (fingers crossed)

If you see an OTC antibiotic at the farm store for your goats, pick it up. There's talk about removing this OTC option for livestock owners soon.

That really concerns me! I don't think any of us livestock owners can afford to be forced to consult a veterinarian every time we have a health issue come up!! We all need to stock up on OTC livestock meds & look into alternate solutions as well!

It's true. Its $45 plus a half day lost for us to visit the vet and if all of that needs to go through the vet then they will definitely be getting backed up!

Oh man, that has to be fun. I use to need a trip to the ER and course of antibiotics (azithromycin) every 3-4 months for chronic ear infections. This went on for decades even tho I got the flu shot every year. Coincidentally, I stopped getting the flu shot and quit taking all medications (including birth control, anti depressants, anti anxiety pills) and detoxed my body and it went away. Havent had a painful ear infection in over 10 yrs now. I still sleep with my old pillowcase (covered by a new pillowcase) that's got blood from when my ear drums ruptured to remind me of how far I've come (dont worry, it's been washed many times). Best thing I ever did was kick drs to the curb, change my lifestyle, and self medicate. I'm the healthiest and happiest I've ever been and I'm 45! The fact that they are threatening to pull antibiotics off the shelf for farmers tells me the controllers are greedy, evil, communists that want people & animals to suffer. Just my opinion.

Good morning Heather. Ice water bottles work great for the rabbits and the animal’s water buckets. 115 degrees is hot.

Hoping the LA200 is a good solution for S'mores!! I had to smile when you were giving her that shot. That mini-rodeo looked very familiar! 😁 Thank you for the info on the meds, part of that I didn't know. I'll be checking out that website! I hope Elipis doesn't have ringworm, it is nasty & contagious, to the other goats & you!! Your goats always look so good & so healthy, it makes it more frustrating when issues come up!!! Sorry you're having to deal with all this!! Prayers! God bless!

Because it is so contagious I'm thinking it can't be that? But I may have to take her in if she gets another big spot!

@@SageandStoneHomestead from what I've experienced goats don't seem to get ringworm very easily, it's as if they have a degree of natural resistance. Though that resistance varies with the individual. I've also noticed that sometimes it takes switching fungicides to totally clear it up. It's concerning to me how long poor Elipis has had this & that it's spreading in spite of the intensive way you've been treating it!

If she gets another spot I'm going to take her in!! The original spot got BAD after I sprayed Blu-kote on it, which is antifungal. I do wonder if she was having an allergic reaction to the Blu-kote! It got 6x bigger overnight after spraying it. I felt awful. I'll definitely keep you updated! The spot on her head is looking much better today. I keep alternating the nu stock and the Vetricin.

Its funny to me that you mentioned clamydia this morning! If I have to take Elpis to the vet for her skin I'll probably pack S'mores in there too and see if I can get more answers.

I have had good luck putting a tub upside down or a tire w a piece of plywood on it, to help the smaller bucks reach the mature does. You may have to hold the doe. If you can get them into a smaller area (like a stall) it will be easier. If the doe is in heat it shouldn't be too hard to coax the buck up onto the tire/tub etc. I have some Kastdemur's in my Lamancha lines too..lol

Levi helped with the first dose because I wasn't sure how it would go with her. She did pretty okay and I did the next 2 myself. This was her 4th dose and she knew what was going on this time 🤣

Smores is a beautiful looking doe! I have 1 lamancha, Black Betty, and I love her! But also... she didn't get pregnant this year either. Which sucks as she's my main milk goat. I'll try her again, but if not, maybe I'll consider this! My Nigerians are little hussies and have no issues. Tennessee meat goats is a great site! Also the podcast "goat talk with the goat doc" is another good one if you like audio info.

Please keep a cap on the syringe until right before the injection. Biomycin, is an oxytetracycline that is formulated to be less painful. As many have said, January 2023 is when all otc drugs go Rx. I would not use oxytetracycline during pregnancy. It can cause bone an teeth issues. Discuss with your vet, which would be the correct antibiotic to use. Great channel, new subscriber. Found you on Ryan Hall y'all. PS common household bleach works wonders on ring worm. Just dab it with a cotton swab.

Thanks so much for all the awesome info! The problem with discussing with the vet which antibiotic to use is that it's a half day trip and at least a $45 bill just to ask that. I have the TN meat goat website plus a few books that discuss which antibiotics are best for certain issues.

So I am watching this a few years out and would like to know the outcome. Was Smores ever able to have a baby? Do you still have her on your farm?
@SageandStoneHomestead
@SageandStoneHomestead 12 күн бұрын
Smores went to a friend's farm where she was treated for cysts and still never settled. She grew a lump in her udder area and was subsequently put down. We think she had cancer.

No. She never settled and I gave her to a friend that treated her for cysts but she still hasn't settled. We are worried about maybe her having cancer or a type of infection that blocks the fallopian tubes. Still not sure but not looking good.

@@SageandStoneHomestead thank you for the reply! I'm sorry to hear that. I think the one girl I've been having that issue with might have had Clamidia, and unfortunately this season I am dealing with an actual abortion storm. LA 200 has been hard to find locally, so we finally acquired some last night. One of my girls came back in from the pasture after birthing them somewhere, about a month early! We searched, but never found them. Then I've had 1 premature birth, 2 weeks early. The kids were both so weak that they didn't make it. Her due date was February 5th. I have one more girl due on the same day, and thank God she's still cooking them kids, lol! When I couldn't get the LA200 I started giving her every natural thing I had on hand, like GSE and Colloidal Silver. I did start her on LA200 last night. Rather than doing the 1 shot, and then another 4 days later, for the abortion diseases, I'm wondering if I should just give her the 5 day in a row? This just sucks... she is going to be my only spring mama now of I can beat this. I will be treating the other does today, but they are all 3 and 4 months out still. I really wanted to do the holistic thing, but I can't find holistic treatment plan for this, so here we are, lol! And thank you for keeping that part where the shot didn't go as planned! It went exactly like that for me last night, my first time! She screamed, and I felt so bad, and I still had to stick her again to give her the rest. And now I know, that's just the way it goes sometimes, and I don't feel so bad. You are awesome, and thank you for all you share on here! It so helpful! 🥰
