You should try out Luigi, he is so much more than just fishing for grab to do the zero to death. His combos are insane and also pretty easy to do. He is really fun when you play him at a higher level and don't only spam grab in neutral.

Yay! As a Kirby main, it felt good to see you have fun with him. One thing I think you missed that is so silly - down tilt. It's super safe, and you get a 1/3 chance to trip with an almost guaranteed F-Smash follow-up that is reactable online. But that's forgetting his ultimate technique: DOWN. With one button press, you can invalidate way more moves than you really should be able to; for example, Warlock Punch, Captain Falcon's grab, Ryu's Focus (but not Ken's because *shrug*), loads of autopilot landing up-airs and so much more. I will reiterate that I think you can have fun with Zelda and that she doesn't have to be a special-spamming machine. One thing I tried that I really enjoyed was to ban the use of my B-Button unless at least one of us is off stage, and landing a dair into a fair strong hit is unbelievably satisfying!

I never laughed more at Mii Gunner gameplay than your Sans Collage at the end, that shit was hilarious!!

You should try out Joker. He’s the only DLC character you’ve barely played, and he’s really fun.

The Mii Gunner clip had me rolling at the end but I think Mii Gunner can be fun depending on the moveset you give it. For instance I have a full “movement build” that uses the psy magnet down-b and forward air to mix my options and add more creative flair.

Hi Hop! I’m really loving these videos, it’s a cool idea! I think you should give Joker a go. He gets a weird reputation because Leo uses him but I think he’s one of the most fun, stylish characters in the game- I feel better than I am whenever I play him. I think Alpharad once said of Joker/Arsene “he’s like Sheik with Ganon aerials”. (Plus that persona music do be groovy 👀)

Shulk was a character I initially didn't care for in Smash 4, but I ended up maining him in Ultimate after noticing the improvements they gave him and realizing how much fun it is to use the Monado Arts. I think giving Shulk a selection wheel for the arts helped a LOT. If not for that, I wouldn't enjoy playing as him nearly as much as I do now. Thanks for finally giving Shulk a chance! Also, 6:14 is the single greatest play of all time, lol

I think you should try out mii swordfighter. They are basically at a middle ground between Mii Gunner who's gameplay is so stupid it ends up being hilarious, and Mii Brawler, who has a lot of specific tech and satisfying setups, which ends up making a surprisingly very fun character if you use the correct moveset.

A character I would recommend that nobody plays is Villager. Not many people main him and it seems like everyone is average at them. I’m not even a main but every time I get him on random I just enjoy it especially with tree and bowling ball shenanigans.

ACTUALLY Mii Gunner DOES have combos. They can do down throw or up throw to neutral air, landing forward air into grab or dash attack, the Grenade Launch neutral b into either dash grab; running tilt; running smash attack; or dash attack, the Missle side b can combo into dash attack; grab; or the Charge Shot neutral b, the PK Fire looking side b can combo into forward air; RAR back air; dash attack; running up smash; or the charge shot neutral b, & then bomb drop down b can combo into basically anything assuming you have the right set up.

Imagine the Underdogs having a Smashdown, Hop ends up playing Peach, or Shulk and he pops off. I find just the image of it hilarious.

This was an awesome follow up video! Feel bad for just being happy last episode that you played Corrin and Robin, but I'll give a couple actual suggestions. I tried something similar a year or two ago and I found that Ryu is actually really fun to play. The way his jab and aerials connect into his specials is really fun to use and makes him feel like you are linking substantial hits together. Special canceling is a cool mechanic, but I only like it on Ryu. I tried Ken and I do not enjoy playing him at all. I'd also put in a word for Mii Brawler except with the optimal special loadout. It plays very differently but is still really fun. If they are named Roy, play them.

Kirby has some of if not the best normals in the game. Great aerials, great Smash attacks, INCREDIBLE tilts. Highlights are probably Down Tilt with its stupid low profile potential, Forward Tilt with its deceptively strong kill power for its speed and how easily it sets up tech chases at lower percents, Forward Air for its decent range for a Kirby move, and Forward Smash simply because of how early it kills.

As an avid watcher of your videos and everyone in the Underdogs (and the Underdogs obviously), it's really cool to see the perspective change on a lot of these. I look forward to you referencing how "actually this character's alright" next time they come up on random in an Underdogs video haha

Meta knight can do more things than just his ladder combo, such as falling back air into rising back air, ground canceled falling back air into down smash, down throw at low percent into neutral B, and side B draging yoshi off stage at 56% which would have killed at last stock but he fell out leaving meta knight in free fall making me sd lossing the game... I'm not crying, you are! As a warning up B is usually negative on hit unless he kills which isn't often enough.

I would suggest Bayo, for the self indulgence, but I'm not sure you'll like her that much. She starts getting fun only after you learn how to do jump cancel up b and a few of her basic combos, which really isn't hard to do, but it takes a little time. Although, she definitely has a much lower skill floor than Peach or Sheik, so if you're interested, you can try her. It is very fun to combo someone to the side or top blastzone tho. I do love doing that a lot. :)

As a shulk main I got 2 easy tricks for you 1: in buster, just down throw and f tilt. Congratulations, you just did like 40% 2: this is for the backslash fans out there. When the opponent is offstage, go smash, double jump high, and backslash to the ledge right when the opponent is getting up. Sounds like it would never work, but when you go smash they'll often get tunnel-visioned into not getting edgeguarded at 60%. Also don't try this more than once per match or twice per set, because they will definitely see it coming if you fish for it

You really should try mii swordfighter with the tornado neutral B. Sure he is kinda cheesy but that tornado will set you up for any attack you could dream up, and all the other moves are a lot of fun to experiment with and find to more cheesy mii swordfighter moveset. :)

I used to ignore Peach for years because I don't like her as a character. But when I checked official tier lists of all the smash games once, I noticed she's been high tier quite often. I then tested her in World of Light, and I really liked her and won a lot with her. She has earned my respect.

You should totally play Yoshi. His combos flow so well into each other, egg lay is a fantastic gimping move, egg throw is a fun projectile, he’s just got all the traits of a fun character. Honorable mention to Lucas since I saw him at the bottom of your KO list. His moves are pretty broken and you can have some fun with his grab!

LUCAS!!!!!! Yes he’s a zoner, but the manz got up close boxing combos, 2 different spiking moves, DJCZ, ton of off stage potential, loops, unique up B that can be challenging to new players picking him up to recover, healing option, technically an armored move, and a reflector. Character is so unique with a higher ceiling for movement possibilities, you just gotta look past “Pk Fire” and get good with the Up B recovery. Plus sniping people with pk fire while off stage and killing at low percents is kinda hype. Or even stage spiking them with pk fire is also fun. If you’re sweating use pk thunder or pk ice to edge guard. But you also got dair and bair spikes or even just ran off and fair. Also don’t forget up air chains at low percent to get 60-90 percent combo strings, don’t know why but his up air chains are the most satisfying.

I'd super recommend giving Bowser Jr/The Koopalings an honest try. Admittedly I'm biased because I used to main them back in Smash 4 (now I'm more of a Ridley/DK/K. Rool guy) but they have such an interesting intersection between heavy and zoner that I really do enjoy picking them up every once and a while. Also their jab is a kill move which is really fun

sephiroths big sword can be super fun to swing around, and even without learning the falling nair chains he still has a combo game good enough to get consistant 30% combos (if you're good enough) ~~yes this is just wanting validation plz im desperate~~

I like this series a lot. I think I might give kirby another fair go after this, now that I dont have to feel like Im a toddler for even trying him. I think a fighting game character like Terry might be fun to try. Hes not as complicated as kazuya for example and shit like buster wolf and power dunk spikes are just hilarious to me. Yes, obviously Im a Terry main, give me validation

I don't know if you already play him, as I watch quite a lot of Smash KZfaqrs, but the Great Koopa King himself, Bowser, is really, REALLY Fun. His entire gameplan is to mess with the opponent's mind to make them do a mistake, then you capitalize that mistake with either 44% dealt by flame breath, or straight up killing them with one of many powerful moves. I'll give you (or anyone interested) a few small tips, but if you don't want them, it doesn't matter. Need to 2frame someone? Down angled f-tilt does the job. Someone is hiding in their shield on a platform or you just don't know what to do? Just jump up and Grab them with side-B, that might kill at around 100% Trying to edgeguard (is this how it's written?)? Just F-air. Want to kill off a shield break punish? Down b shatters shields like paper, then fully charge f-smash, and if the opponed had more than 30% before, now they're dead. He even has some combos! Sure, they're small and kinda hard to learn at first, but they'll usually get the opponent to kill % Only thing you need to learn properly is recovering, as he doesn't exactly have the best up b in that regard, but trust me, it still goes somewhat far up, and pretty far to the sides. Though his up b is in my opinion the 2nd best up b up out of shield right after MR G&W. In general, Bowser is all about scaring you opponent to do something stupid bad so that you can do something stupid good in return. Also, if you wanna have fun just YEET an opponent with bad recovery off stage, force them to recover low and have fun bulling them with fire breath at ledge. Even when it runs out you can get something stupid out of it, and it's always hilarious. what? You still here? There's nothing else to see. no, seriously, I've got nothing else to say. if you don't leave now, you're not gonna like it. tsk, I knew it, don't say I didn't I warn you. NEVER GONNA GIVE YOU UP

Hello Hopcat, Firstly, I must say that I absolutely love this new concept as it brings a fresh view of many unliked characters and I think that it's a brilliant idea ! The quality of those videos are also amazing and I can see the work and effort you put into these (but you already made awesome videos before of course, been a follower since a long time now😎) Thus I would love to see you play Sonic in this series, as he is a character a lot of people, myself included, love outside of Super Smash Bros but that is very hated in the game. Just to see if people can still love him like I love him 🥺(not my main but I like to play him sometimes)

I’d love to see you try Wii Fit Trainer! Her hit and run tactics involve interesting trap setups with sun salutation and header in tandem with versatile normals that can kill with deep breathing active

I think one that would be great for this is Rosalina. She's good, but requires more effort to use well than most of the cast. Some of the basic tech for her is learning to hit an aerial just before you hit the ground, which will cancel Rosa's action, but Luma will still throw it out. RAR shorthop Nair into Luma landing Bair is a great tool that's pretty easy to use. You can also cancel your dash attack into a grab, but Luma will still dash attack. Rosalina may not be worth it for the time investment she takes to learn, but even with basic tools she's a lot of fun.

I know he's not really unknown or anything like that, but I feel like Sephiroth is really fun when you play him more, compared to when you just spam bair the whole time when you start. I also just love to see anyone play him, so yes I am completely biased

Kirby's copy ability are actually stronger than the originals, I should remember to use them more

One of the characters that I think gets overlooked since they got nerfed is Inkling. All the kills imo seem so rewarding when your opponent is covered in ink. Also their up throw to up air combo is just so free.

Would love to see you play duck hunt! His can is one of the most satisfying moves to land when it comes to hitting it around and launching it into someone, my personal favorite is following up nspec into a jump dair to spike the can down next to ledge, def would suggest giving him a go!

As a Shulk main, I love matching into Kirby and offering to let them take my monado arts. But for some reason, most Kirbys don’t want it…

I know this probably won’t happen, but I’d love to see Pyra/Mythra in one of these. (I will admit, there is a small amount of “play my main” copium here, but here me out.) I actually played a bit of Shulk in Smash 4, and while I was still an absolutely steaming pile of garbage of a player at that point, the ability to change up play styles is actually what drew into trying the Aegis. Also m, I can’t deny that having the ability to press down B and turn into what is essentially Ganandorf if he was actually considered a competitively viable character is amazing. (And before anybody tries to claim that this is just a Xenoblade fan ranting about their favorite character, let it be known that Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is the only game in the series I’ve played, and only started playing after Pyra/Mythra were revealed.)

Try doing Sora. Nair loops are annoying to fight, but they take a minute to get the hang of, and the aerial mobility is surprisingly satisfying for crossups.

Funniest part about Mii Gunner? They nerfed him. Mii Gunner in the WiiU/3DS era was a menace, the multihit of his projeticle lasted as long as a PK fire, his speed was based on the height of the Mii you used to create them and their campig set had an extra "landmine" build in. Sakurai really hated the world when he made this abomination from the zone zone

As a Mii Gunner main, you are 100% correct and it fuels me to use this character for evil

Ice climbers takes a bit of practice to know how to safely recover, but you can get some REAL sauce with just side B into up air. The icicles also have some BONKERS interaction with projectiles, they some how go through fully charged samus shot

You might want to give back some love to olimar, constantly deciding what setup you want, trying to preserve pikmin and keep the ones you want to use in order makes it feel like you're playing smash bros at the same time as a brain tester, or if you're not in the mood to play sweaty his moves are pretty fun anyways

Incineroar neutral B on Kirby sounds like a nightmare to play against. Aside from a little end lag, you can basically spam it for free because he’s so short.

You forgot the one fun part about Mii Gunner!! Their Forward Air sends you backwards so you can get funny momentum kills that cannot possibly catch people off guard because it’s so obvious what you’re going for and even if you hit back air or down air or nair or whatever move you’re going for you most likely die for it anyway :D Thats it. The character sucks unless you’re going for a toxic night stroll.

I'd love to see you play Lucas or Bowser Jr. If you need inspiration for Lucas, watch a "Blucas" match. The dude is insane. Bowser Jr has more than skins. He's got some wild kills to the level of Ding Dong in Smash 4. Also when you do literally any set up you feel like a genius.

I want you to try Byleth tbh. They can be sooooo funny when they get shield breaks from their 15 shield breaking moves (Down B, Down Smash, etc). Not to mention the fact that they can kill at like 40 sometimes. There’s a reason why MKLeo uses them in tournaments. They’re so funny and good to play as. Additionally, the Up-B they have is ridiculous. It can combo from an Up Throw into: Side B, Back Air (True only if you fast-fall), Nair (Not true), Down Air, Up Air (if horrible DI), etc. I really think you should give them a go for a Part 3. I guarantee you’ll enjoy the experience, especially against heavies.

Not gonna lie you should talk about K Rool. Idk if you like him or dislike him but based on your interactions with Brent (King of Skill) a while ago, well. Honestly I love K Rool. He's a cheating jerk and, when fighting him, it is infuriating, but hitting people with the cheese is hilarious to me. Armor through attacks, hit em with the nair or down smash, call it a day. However I do also love the crown combos you can do with him too. Like crown back air off stage, crown up air on stage, etc etc. And his spikes are so satisfying to land, especially since hitting an uno reverse with him is a lot easier than with some other characters due to his armor, back air etc. Also that frame 6 forward air goes hard LOL.

For Peach, "easy mode" is jump on shoulder button. Float cancels become infinitely more reliable.

If you looking for characters that make you feel really good at the game, meta knight is awesome. And as a funny little thing he has one of the only “parries” his forward smash is only active for one frame, so if it clashes with an opponents move- it will stun them for a second (grounded only) then you can do follow ups like down B etc… fun character and would love to see you try them out.

Maybe it's different in Australia, but I'd like to see Hopcat go into online Arenas. Arenas are what keeps this game fun to me, as a lot of the time it's people just looking to have fun.

As someone with a degree of self-respect who plays Mii Gunner, the amount of fun both player and opponent can have is VERY dependent on the specials equipped. Grenade Launch (neutral B 3, as demonstrated in the video) is stupid good on paper, but also INCREDIBLY boring and lame, and missiles (side B 3) fall under the same boat, but going down the roads less traveled, such as the default Charge Shot and Flame Pillar, can be quite rewarding. Charge Shot needs no introduction, but a lot of Gunner's normals flow well into it in favorable ways such as tech chases from f-tilt and of course the satisfaction of simply sniping. Flame Pillar is a bargain bin Arcfire, but just as valuable if not more valuable for the kit - Flame Pillar into jumping Charge Shot is also a kill confirm at higher percents. Gunner's normals are quite versatile also; besides the infamously good f-smash, up smash is just Samus' but leagues better, f-tilt is a good spacing tool and makes a funny noise, up tilt is really quick and really strong almost like a more fun version of Snake's. Forward air, though not as strong has the same properties as Corrin's back air you liked, except it pushes you backward, and a good distance if you're holding back before the shot comes out; it's good for retreating while still being able to put pressure on, and also for recovery, especially valuable for sets with Cannon Jump Kick. Up air is pretty strong but also has a lot of drag-down potential, like an upwards cancelable f-smash that can enable things like chaingrabs or up or down smash or Cannon Jump Kick follow-ups. Bair hits like a truck, great kill move, and is really fast for its power but at the price of being a bit short, requiring you to get in. And nair? Nair is one of your best friends for getting things started up close with Mii Gunner, it's a really good combo tool and makes Cloud's feel short. Grabbing is also really rewarding as Gunner since they'll want to shield your projectiles a lot, down throw and up throw are really good for starting combos and racking up damage. I suppose what I'm saying is, I hope you'll give Mii Gunner another chance if you're willing to mix things up. Try out more of their moves, experiment with throw combos, and try to think in terms not just of walling off sections of the stage, but forcing your opponent back to get them right where you want them - typically at ledge or offstage. As for other characters that might be worth trying out? Even without Spin Dashing, Sonic has all the tools he could want to run all over his opponent instead of away from them like you might be picturing (experiment with up air, fair, and up and down tilts), and R.O.B. can be corny but is really funny and really satisfying to play with.

Mii gunner is a horrible option if you want to feel like you're good at the game. But if you want to feel like life is a comedy and your opponent is the punchline, then he's perfect. Also you should try Dedede. He's got virtually nothing going for him except his crouch animation, but that's enough for me to main him.

For so many reasons, I think you should pick up Terry. No one in the house knows how to play a shoto, his clips are too much fun to pull off, and his learning curve isn’t even that steep. He’s easy to pick up once you learn special cancelling, and hard to master. The inputs are daunting at first I get it but if you play him like a smash character w/o all the inputs, he’s still great. Then we have the inputs. They don’t serve as anything other than to maximize his potential. Hitting someone with an input down b spike is CRISP. Killing someone off the top with a charged up b at 50 is hilarious. Integrating inputs into your gameplay can help you mix things up in so many different ways, cuz the utility being offered is crazy. You can even mix in the standard side-b/up-b/down-b motion as a way of throwing off your opponent. And this is all WITHOUT Go Mode. If you have any questions about ways to learn him and some easy bread and butters, I’m no tournament player, but I can totally help you out. Love the vid!

play bayonetta you only need to learn jump cancel witch twist and then you can do basically whatever you want. remember to jab before you punish in witch time so your smash attacks don't clank 😻

Can’t believe I missed the sequel. I feel like Hop went into my brain & read why I use Kirby. Very low skill & fun ceiling but it can be very fun to play him at higher levels. Also funny gun go brrrat

There's a guy in my local that plays Mii Gunner with Grenade and bomb (Samus downb) he plays just like Hop did. It's infuriating when he says "gg" and shakes your hand after the match, the second his opponent goes off-stage its just Neutral B and Down B. And he thinks it's so technical

People will overstate Shulk's difficulty coming from the techs he has (which even the top Shulk players don't use regularly). Instead I think it comes from how high-commitment all of his moves are (besides Nair and Fair, which are indeed braindead spam buttons).Throughout a game, your reactions need to be on-point to identify which of your opponent's options you can punish, because Shulk's lengthy start-up and sluggish cooldown means that if he whiffs, he's getting hurt. Especially in a tournament setting, having so few low-commitment moves makes for a tiring experience. He really demands precision--even his recovery, which will kill you if you're not precise with the spacing.

Ayy! My desperate comment as Shulk main actually contributed for something lol. Guess there are more of us than I though. Oh and I feel like Shulk has a rep as being super hard because of the fact that offline, and against anyone half decent, mashing Nair/Fair gets you killed. The moves are lagless afterwards but are laggy as all hell on startup. Shulk's disadvantage isn't great either. So past beginner level, it is a challenge, as your arts become way more important, and your kinda do need to develop a set of principles and theory in neutral. Anyway, me stupid rant aside, glad you enjoyed Shulk!

As a random main, I would really recommend trying out Joker. Using f-air u-air and gun makes you feel way cooler than you are and arsene is just stupid funny.

Hmm... We all know you enjoy Brawler, but Gunner was a miss. How about the final Mii next time? Moveset Suggestions: Neutral B- Blurring Blade is a BadMove(tm) and my personal choice, or you can try the ironically overshadowed Shuriken of Light. Up B - Any of the three could be used, really, but Stone Scabbard is the only spiking move Swordfighter gets. Side B - Chakram is absolutely the best move in the kit, but it's an overused projectile. Try the Ike-copy Gale Stab instead. Down B - Power Thrust is a Falcon Kick.

Oooh, also try out Duck Hunt and Yoshi, two characters that I always thought of as lame but I tried them out and they're hella fun. Duck Hunt's aerials are good and their spike is god tier, and everyone talks about Yoshi nair but upair and bair are so strong and so satisfying to kill with, and with Yoshi's airspeed bair can be spaced so safely

Kirby's Neutral-B is definitely one of the most fun specials in the game. In Ultimate they even added the ability to inhale enemy projectiles, similar to Dedede. Unlike Dedede it just spits out a moderately strong star projectile with low range, but it's still there. It's unfortunate Kirby is so bad, and it doesn't help his moveset is so outdated and fails to represent his games. He only uses copy abilities from the main games in his specials and a few normals like dash attack when really Kirby should be a swiss army knife with all his different copy abilities. He can still be easy to pick up of course, but giving him more varied moves would be a great way to introduce mechanics found on other characters. Side-B for example, instead of being a discount smash attack that's borderline useless nearly all the time, could be Beam while Hammer Flip gets moved to f-smash. It could be tapped to do the medium-range Beam Whip for zoning, and then if held could be charged to fire Wave Beam giving Kirby a way to deal with swordies and zoners. I could go into more examples like Up Smash being changed to Needle for a huge disjointed attack all around him or Down Tilt getting changed to his slide kick, but you get the idea.
