@@AdamWielgosz The episode that’s from is Episode 49: Raiders of the Lost Mushrooms. It’s an Indiana Jones parody, and Koopa is supposed to be the villain. I’ve never watched Indiana Jones but from a google search it seems like one of the villains is a nazi so it’s a parody of that.

@@mightyfilm so do I This cartoon unlike captain n the game master represents the games fairly well Plus unlike the captain n incarnations of Simon Belmont and mega man Mario and Luigi in this show are for the most part believable I felt that captain Lou gave it his all as Mario This show also has an ongoing story about Mario and his friends taking back the mushroom kingdom from the koopa clan which is great since the Mario games at the time didn’t have much of a story We also got to see multiple worlds alongside the mushroom kingdom which adds to the world building of the show The format of world building and ongoing story would later be used for another video game cartoon in 1993 (sonic satam) Mario and Luigi were givin so much personality here which is surprising considering that most people consider Mario a basic character The show has its faults though the pasta puns can be a bit much and I honestly don’t like the live action segments (although to be fair most people watched it for the cartoon anyways) there are also noticeable animation errors but that was common at the time This show is proof that just because they got no loyalties from Nintendo doesn’t mean it can’t represent its source This is in my opinion one of my favorite cartoons from dic and easily one of their highlights to cap off the 80s It’s not perfect but for its time it’s a good representation of an animated version of the games

@@jamesborlan2850 The problem with these shows is, they weren't exactly made by video game fans that grew up with them. They were new, and these writers had to get as many stories out of the game formula of chasing the bad guys down to the final level (if one exists) and rescuing someone or finding something. And for the most part, they at least try to incorporate anything they can if possible. Captain N's a weird case of both trying to be writer friendly and game accurate. They had to invent personalities for characters that they wanted to write for (the writers came up with Simon's personality specifically because they liked writing that type of character), so I can't blame them for that. But when they actually reference in game things, they did a weirdly specific amount of research. Their interpretation of Mega Man as a character is off, but when they had Mega Man based episodes, they got everything oddly right. Where as with SMBSS, they stuck to a formula of weird media parody, but got the characters pretty much down perfectly. While AOSMB 3 was more games accurate, SMBSS had more fun with their concepts. Plus, the live action segments were glorious. Captain Lou and Danny Wells just WERE Mario and Luigi to me and still are. Their chemistry was perfect. You believed they were brothers, video game characters or not. Of course, I always wonder if it's better to be game accurate in specific instances or be a cartoon that's in the spirit of the games. I think as far as cartoons based on games now, we get teams that grew up with the actual games and have a feeling for the characters. They don't slavishly adapt games so much as find reasonable stories and characters, and even expand on the mythos. We never could have had a cartoon like Castlevania back then. No adult cartoon market, no one having a nostalgic bond with the franchise.

I think they're supposed to be the ones from Super Mario Bros 2, although they might have used the same kinds vegetables in Ice Climbers.

They are the vegetables from the western SMB2/Super Mario U.S.A.. Early Nintendo games shared similar graphics. The western SMB2 is just a slightly tweaked Yume Kojo: Doki Doki Panic, and YKDDP came out in, I think 86, or 87. This means Ice Climbers released first, specifically in 1985.
