Millions of Kidde fire extinguishers are being recalled because of faulty handles.

Mine is about 4 years old and it says empty but I’ve never used it before. Mine is one of the recalled models.

I received a replacement fire extinguisher from Kidde, only to get the smallest one that you make. Mine was much bigger then the one sent. My old one was for workshops or garages, the new one looks like it belongs in your automobile.

We had the opposite experience: We had four total affected units and Kidde replaced all of them with upgraded models. One of them was an old out-of-production kitchen model and Kidde replaced it with a really nice one, much larger.

Kidde tried to cut cost buy switching to plastics nozzeles and handles. Now they have to fork out the costs to replace them, they also have liability and a public PR nightmare on their hands.

I have one from 1991 - seals not broken but it’s depressurized past the green zone. Think I can still get a replacement?

Do not buy a Kidde fire extinguisher, I have 4 which were on the recall. I called Kidde and they said they would replace my extinguishers. Since November 2017 I have called numerous times and keep getting the same answer “ we will send your 4 replacements and notify you what to do with the 4 extinguisher you have” this never happened and I am sure it never will. You cannot trust Kidde!!!

they should be sued for false advertisement dont you know there advertisement is that in case of fire trust kidde you can trust them the refused to replace my recalled smoke alarm!!! they only seemed to want to reactivate my recall claim when I went on line and left a very negative review that included a report from a professional engineer that was titled notice of child endangerment they seemed horrified enough to re enact my claim when I took a risk to publish such a thing !!!! ps did you not Know that UTC owners of Kidde has a significant lawsuit against them for failure of a smoke alarm so yes if you belive they dont keep you safe they probably don't why don't you ask Try asking : Labarrone Boone of the Beasly Allen Law firm about this video : kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nZ99aZZ1za-6nX0.html

David, your under-the-sink extinguisher used as your prop (0:17) is NOT on the recall list. Extinguishers with curved handles are not on the list; only units with straight plastic handles are being recalled.

EDIT: NEVER MIND. I miss read the post and you are correct! The curved handle types are NOT on the recall!

Aww man. I had to use a kiddle extinguisher just a few weeks ago with a plastic handle. Guess I could've gotten a free replacement instead of paying $20 for a new one! Already threw it away. Honestly preferred the plastic one. The pin was much better, the new one is metal that falls out so they have a zip tie around it

This is why I hate Kidde so so much. If you're going to get fire extinguishers, get Amerex extinguishers as they are the best ones out there.

@@Asertix357First alert is basically like Kidde and they both suck. The best brands are Amerex and Ansul Sentry.

@@aidenlui2056 Only problem is every distributor I've looked up charges about 2-3 times for an Ansul what Amerex does for theirs. And they don't offer free shipping on large orders either, so that's another $35 in hazmat fees.

This is what im talking about our safty never cames first it takes same thing to happen before new changes its so sad. Why? All these recalls was unnessary really. When thay should have done cheaks . We pay enough taxes so wheres was the money going. I was these fire exstinchers wont cheaked then why now. Thats the killer in it self too. No thing to put fires out with. Hummm ?????.....

Geraldine//// You cannot 'check' a fire extinguisher except to look at the pressure gauge. If you operate them, the valve will leak down the remaining pressure. The problem was the plastic handle and valve. The metal handle units do not have a problem.
