Man Xbox players were literally saying this stuff at the start of the year about going multiplat and the future being grim for Xbox hardware, and Blessing laughed it off and said "I have more faith in Xbox than the hardcore fans." The hardcore fans were the first to realize the signs months ago 🤦‍♂️

I've said for so long that a service like Gamepass just isn't sustainable unless it is able to conquer everything up. Spending 100s of millions of dollars on developing games and then just not being able to actually sell them for 30 or 40 or 60 bucks to recoup costs is coming back to haunt Xbox imo. There's a reason Activision SELL a COD game every single year.

I'd love an X-Men game where you get to play as the core characters. Like insomniac open world with SM2 but instead of bouncing between 2 characters it can be any of the core X-Men the game is about, with their own missions and then the nain missions where maybe you can choose who youbplay as through it. But in afraid they'd be like "a team based game? Clearly this has to be ganes as a service".

Executives might not realize that before Naughty Dog made last of us part 2, they had to start with (in terms of the kind of game) Uncharted: Drake's Legacy. A huge advantage that older and established studios have is their experience with actually making a certain type of game. Making games with a big team, even with a ton of investment, is a huge challenge when starting from zero. It just seems like the market has no interest in AA games that are more achievable for a new studio.

About Thunder Ray: I was really disappointed, the game comes with 2/3 of the content its advertised with and theres' no mention on the steam page that the content is yet to come. And from a gameplay perspective, the opponents don't have a good "dazed" or "vulnerable" state/animation to let you know whether or not you can pummel them. Counter mechanics are very obfuscated too. If yall are looking for more punch-out likes I highly recommend keeping an eye out for Big Boy Boxing cuz that from the demo alone is shaping up to be a much better experience. Ray was all flash but little follow through

The idea that Playstation would release it's first party games on other consoles before Nintendo seems a little off The Switch obviously was a huge hit but if Nintendo had another Wii U on their hands in the future they would definitely also consider releasing on other plattforms. It really just depends on the numbers, as things stand right now neither Nintendo nor Playstation need to release on other plattforms but this could obviously change at any moment for either one of them With the highest chance being post a new console launch that flops, but unless Nintendo doesn't just make a Switch follow up thats unlikely

The biggest problem today is the time it takes to create a triple A games and the costs involved! Xbox is now the one of the biggest gaming publishers and they should be multi platform for all games! It makes perfect sense, and they would be unstoppable.. I just hope they still offer a console device of their own as an option.

I don't think playstation will ever put Helldivers on Xbox. It would be doing Xbox more of a favor than them at this point. If the game builds off of this major success for generations to come then that is 100% a console selling IP. Single player story games are one thing but people will really feel like they're missing out if all of their friends on playing but them.

Horizon being an M rated thing being turned into a Lego thing is just like the 80s violent action films being made into cartoons. Xbox leadership made a call to move to this model and it didn't work out. It happens all the time, particularly at MS. They needed to shake things up to try and up end the system. The problem is that games and gamers habits aren't like that of movies and TV. Some of the largest most time consuming games in the industry are free to play and wouldn't factor into a gamepass (Fornite, Overwatch, etc...). In a given yeah i might play like 10 - 15 games a year and more than half of them are already in my backlog that I got from some service giving it away or its free to play. Now Xbox i think has to find a way out of this gamespass mess. It might have to be that Xbox leadership changes and a massive overhaul to how gamespass works to make it profitable.

Good it’s not easy making money creating games. Profits are hard to come by it needs to be done. We might not understand it some may not like it but it needs NEEDS to be done.

game pass and playststion plus is devaluing games. at this point i sometimes just don t get a game i want, because it will be offered for 'free' at some point. that s nice for me, but it s not good for gaming. i have so many games where i didn t even complete 30%. 20-30 years ago i got the games i could afford and i had time for. i didn t feel entitled to have games that i kind of wanted, because they were big.

And no, Sony is unlikely to release on Xbox. The reason Xbox has to entertain porting to PlayStation is because Sony has the userbase and Xbox doesn't. For Sony, they can easily ignore a 25-35m Xbox audience that exists now, likely to end up as merely 20m come next gen. If Sony wants to take advantage of their multiplayer games, they will port to Switch 2 before ever considering Xbox, because a large enough userbase will be there. Given all these pivots by Xbox, Sony knows they can just wait before the high end console market is theirs alone. As such, it makes no sense for them to start porting games to a console they think will go kaput soon.

Jez's article is full blown clown shoes. The fact he believed MS could be good and profitable is hilarious. Corps don't get to billions and trillions by being nice. Outside of that, trying to frame it like Spencer and co. are the soul of Xbox trying to stop evil MS from ruining things is hilarious. Spencer has had 10 years to fix things and yet Series consoles are performing worse than the Xbox One. It wasn't Nadella pushing for Bethesda and ABK buys. Spencer pushed for it, obsessed with his Game Pass idea, and convinced Nadella on the "maths" behind it. If MS turns around and says "Ok, you've spent $100b now we expect big margins every quarter" then the fault isn't on MS there. Spencer in his desperation opened pandora's warchest and this is the price. By using $100b, Spencer screamed "We're here!" to the rest of Microsoft and now questions are being asked why profit margins for Xbox is mere single digits instead of the around 30% margins that the rest of Microsoft's core products enjoys. One way or another those Xbox margins are gonna be boosted. Be it with cuts, multiplatform releases, and yes, even erasing hardware. R&D and loss leading when launching a new console adds up to billions that's paid off over the course of the generation. That can be worth it when you can sell upwards of 100m or more consoles and you collect 30% from every sale, but when your userbase is in constant decline, likely to not even break 20m next gen, launching hardware that puts you billions in red begins to look more and more like an unnecessary cost. Without a console, Xbox starts every gen without being in red and can focus on selling everywhere. Again, Microsoft ain't to blame for that. Spencer and Xbox are. Stop making excuses for them, they can afford their own PR.

Do not blame leadership at Microsoft for this set of moves. Instead, do the smart thing do the right thing look at the data. If Xbox produces a AAA game that is a 10/10 how many copies will they sell? Be fair be honest if it was a great game how many copies could they sell, realistic. 7 million copies maybe 8 million copies. Is that enough? No it’s not. They have a limited install base on their platform a very small base of customers they can reach compared to the competition. There are simply more gamers on PlayStation platforms therefore when Sony produces a triple AA game, they have more people to sell too. You can’t tell Company that has fewer customers to sell to don’t worry it’ll be OK no Company is going to look around and say can we honestly get more customers and the answer the answer is no they cannot. It’s not going to happen not this generation not next generation not the generation after that or the one after that happen. Sure it’s possible but it’s not plausible. Sony would have to fall off significantly and that’s not . So smart leader looks at this and says if we can’t beat them this way we must change. Why would we continue on this path if we can’t win? So they have to change you have to change the environment and they did. They said Game Pass is our we just didn’t want to hear it clearly. What they would like to do is offered Game Pass everywhere not just on the Xbox but everywhere. They have to make a platform because the other people don’t want that application on their platform, but Microsoft is hoping that they can slip in that they can do something and make other people turn heads and say hey Sony, you need to do that hey Nintendo you need to do that. If Microsoft can get that to happen they can just turn to Nintendo or Sony and say here no need for you to start investing dollars and into creating a program like this. We already have it. That’s how you do. They cannot win in this environment so they have to change things. The ideas we had in our head about making AAA games and coming back to Xbox and everything being 50/50 that was never going to happen. I’ll ask you a question how many AAA games with Microsoft have to make to peel away 20% of Sony customers how many would they have to make on a yearly basis keep in mind they have to still compete with Sony so Sony makes 4 a year. How many would Microsoft have to make to peel away just 20% of Sony customers they have to make more than what Sony would. It have to be one more maybe two more more they have to make significantly more they would have to what the competition does think of all that money would cost to do so. It’s an impossible ask so they said let’s pivot and do something different.

Lego licensing Horizon just shows how much video games are on the same level as movies, books and TV now. Horizon is just treated like it's any other IP that has name value.
