At 11:41 the drain likely used to be below the level were the ground is currently sitting. Groundlevel is not constant and does change especially if you have animals digging underneath or dying root systems.

At 1:31 the McDonald’s specifically asked the company if they could have a sign that had one arch so that it was similar to the classic McDonald’s designs. So it’s not a design fail, it’s just a design choice or genius if you ask me.
