Oh man, I spent a lot of time in Busan (back then it was Pusan) in the military. One time I remember having a day off after all the exercises were over so we had moved from tent city to a hotel on the coast, and sliding up to this little bar/stall on the beach with a couple of "soju warriors" already half in the bag, and they asked me to buy them more soju so I did and then proceeded to have fresh live octopus chopped in front of me, served with a chili sauce. It was life-changing! And we were friends for life. Just kidding, I got pretty drunk and said my goodbyes and staggered back to my hotel.

When I was stationed in Korea, ‘73’-74, street vendors sold giant onion rings - a jumbo sized French fry type bag for 100 won - a quarter back then! Arguably these were the best onion ring I’ve EVER eaten. I actually pine for them. BTW: Unlike so many close minded GIs, I tried everything and ate everything while I was there. I was very lucky to have a “nuna” or Korean big sister who was my personal guide while I was there.She was a college student who my roommate fell in love with - extremely rare for an American boy to find a “good girl”, back then.

@pinkmonkeybird2644

That’s simply untrue. Think about all the regional cuisines throughout the US. Everything from Maine lobsters, Rhode Island quahogs, Maryland blue crabs, gulf shrimps, bbq in multiple states, Idaho potatoes, Iowa corn, Michigan cherries, New York apples and so much more. That doesn’t include indigenous dishes from Native American cultures, southern soul food born out of necessity from slaves having access only to the cheapest cuts of meat and vegetables they could find. Add in the waves of immigrants who brought their cooking methods but had to adapt them to whatever ingredients they could find and you have a vibrant array of local cuisines created out of hardship, struggle, and pride. I wish Americans wouldn’t put American food down, because it’s not all about fast food, chain restaurants, and highly processed bland food here.

@@pinkmonkeybird2644 You are comparing apples to oranges. that’s all and fine if you want to travel the entire USA including Hawaii and Alaska. It’s bigger than Europe. Go back to Korea and do more videos like you do from Vietnam! In the countryside finding different ways they make their regionally unique kimchi, side dishes, even different ways they cook! Honestly I thought about you when Mark Weins did his Korea videos, you would've made it much more enjoyable 😊
