I'll never forget the first time as a kid going mushroom hunting on my uncle's property. I got so excited when I spotted the first mushroom I went running for it and both my dad and my uncle, in unison, screamed at me to STOP RUNNING!!! WHERE THERE"S ONE THERE"S MORE!!! I never did THAT again! LOL. Earl looks so cute with his mohawk and of course the donkeys are adorable.

I'm 63 years old and one of my favorite things to do with my Dad was to hunt morels. One of the many things I miss about him.

Once you spot that first one it's game on!! You keep spotting them. We like catching trout and crappie at this time of year. We cook them up with morels on Mother's Day.

Omg..those are huge over! I love the Morels my dad when he was alive loved hunting for them and eating them. He would soak them in the sink because they usually had a ton of little ants and sand. He would dry them off on a towel and would fry them in butter some He would batter and fry. I wouldn't eat them for the longest because the way they looked but once I bit into one I was sold. You could make some money off of those big guys you got. They are expensive to buy! ❤❤❤

My dad once found a morel mushroom that one half of it took up the whole bottom of a 12 inch skillet. I've always remembered how excited he was when he came home that evening. A good memory for this Ky girl.

Wish I was hunting for mushrooms! Most places we had to go have been left to the children of family friends, and won't allow us to hunt they're woods anymore 😭 or they've sold off the land. Growing up it was a family event...wonderful memories.

When picking mushrooms, I was always told to pinch them off before the roots to give them a chance to regrow next year. Can’t verify it works, but it doesn’t hurt.

When I was young we also put out mushrooms in a bread bags! I miss hunting mushrooms! I haven't gone hunting in 40 years. I live in Georgia now and never found one here.

Love moral mushrooms, my family would go hunting for them up in northern Michigan around Mother’s Day. Us kids my dad, uncle and our grandpa would walk the woods. I was clumsy I always found a bunch because I tripped and fell. Lol We also use to drive back roads looking for wild asparagus.

****Arms Family, may I just say here thank you (Mahalo in Hawaiian) so much for taking me back in a walk down memory lane. I really miss some of the older generations of my family. Watching your shows like this one on the Morel Mushrooms bring tears to my eyes. Being born & raised in Hawaii I've never experienced these things but I have grown up in the life style of living on farms & ranches. I take that walk down memory lane almost everyday just by watching your show. My youngest grandson at the age of 4 was who introduced med to your channel. He loved watching you & Houston catching crawdads n fish in your river. His dad dies these things with him still. Now I feel like I can sit down with both boys & tell them stories about how it was for me growing up. I can't thank you enough for that lead in as to how I can hopefully get them interested in knowing what the other side of their family was like. They've only been able to meet 2 cousins & their families but hopefully now they can & will want to at least learn about the rest of my family. I've been trying to figure out how to make it interesting to where they wanted to hear about it & I believe the Arms Family has now helped me answer that. Maybe I can get them to give me a few hours out of their busy lives to listen to a piece of history that even their mom doesn't know about. I grew up in Stilwell, Oklahoma, Adair County at the foot of Coon Mountain. My grandparents had a 125 ac farm with woods at the back of the farm house and the foot of the mountain. My grandmother would take me up in the woods after a rain and mushrooms were usually around trees and dead trees. She would fry them after rolling them in flour. They were delicious.

Those mushrooms look yummy. This reminds me that as a young girl we would go hunting for asparagus along the irrigation ditch banks and fence lines, but with all the development that is disappearing. Train Belle to hunt for them like the ones in England that hunt for truffles. The are going more for dogs and not pigs because the pigs eat them. Emalee has grown into a beautiful young woman. It's great to see her.

This is a granny from Oregon letting you know we have these morels here and there's nothing better for breakfastthan a good batch of fried morels. We fry them in butter. Add scrambled eggs and hash browns makes the best breakfast ever. Wish I was there with you eating those yummy morels. God bless!

Love Morel mushrooms!! Coming from downstate Illinois. Such great memories of mushroom hunting with Grandparents!! Mouth watering. My Grand ma would make with egg wash, white crushed crackers and fried in homemade butter. Delicious ❤️❤️❤️

Used to find them by the bucketful along Rock Creek down by Madill/Kingston. Would “sneak” over on Governor Gary’s land and pick them for 3-4 hours. Would always drop a bucket off on his porch on our way back home! Thanks for sparking some good memories!

I have been morel hunting for the past 38 years now and I get so excited when it is time to hit the woods , if you haven't been then you don't know what your missing ! The excitement in hunting morels is intense for me and my children ,and teaching your kids and now my grandkids is so exciting in itself ,watching their little faces light up when they spot one or even a huge patch of them , my middle son found a patch of at least over 35 and he was young preteen then and he was so overwhelmed in that he found them all by himself lol ! My oldest and I went by ourselves and we both found this patch that sprawled out in a wide area and they were huge and very fresh !! I started at 18 yrs old with my husband that introduced me to it and as we had our 3 boys we took them when they were old enough to walk and now they are all grown up we still go together and also now their kids / my grandbabies now go and I will take them myself sometimes. They love it and they love to eat them ...very delicious and the business owners buy them up! 😉 BTW We cook ours in crushed Ritz crackers they are buttery and flaky and use the egg wash also very delicious 😋😛😁

Thank you, that took me back to my childhood. Morel hunting was one of my favorite things to do. To broke down these days. Back in the day they were considered a real treat. Some thought they were almost as good as getting ice cream. I preferred the mushrooms. Wild onions go well with them.

This brought back so many memories for me. I’m from Illinois. We live in the woods. Years back we could walk out our back door, take about 10 steps and start picking mushrooms. The farmers have stated spraying fungicide for their crops from an airplane. Ever since that we no longer get any morels. We had so many we used to invite family and friends over to pick them. One year we tried counting them. We got to 1,200 and stopped counting. That was so much fun!

I'm so glad I caught the Moral mushroom hunt, when I lived in Wisconsin I'd see these in the woods, but never knew they were edible!! CJ LOVE seeing you feed the babies!!

Other than family fun, I think what makes morels so special is that they have a unique flavor The closest flavor I can think of, although different, is green-fried tomatoes. Love those too

I have never eaten a Morel mushrooms and have been too afraid to go pick any kind of mushroom wild but Morels are pretty clear what they are. Looks like fun. DeJay I enjoy watching you with those cute baby donkeys and I think Feebs is a bit bigger as well as Fallon just so sweet and cute. 💜💜

Prime spot for Copperheads too. They blend in so well under the trees. I was bitten by a copperhead 3 years ago. I stayed clam and got to a hospital for treatment. But I thought my career was over. I need my hands....as a surgeon. Luckily, no permanent damage was done. Now, I wear good snake proof gloves when I need to dig around the ground...during snake season.

Morel mushrooms are a delicacy. It always seems like once you find the first one then you start seeing all the rest of them. But it's finding that first one to get that vision in your head of what they look like. 1 pound of morel mushrooms could sell up to $50.

They grow all over the woods here in West Virginia, Daniel. That was something I always look forward to growing up as a kid the first warm day in April and the first rain shower that occurred the next day we were out in the woods looking for "Muggles" as my family call them up here. And no we weren't Harry Potter fans back in the '70's, LOL!🤣 We would go picking them and placing them and empty bread bags. I remember one great mushroom hunt in the spring of 1978. Mushroom hunting was always a family event. My brother and I went with my dad. My mom stayed home because she was 9 months pregnant with my little brother. We went hunting out on my grandpa's old homestead. There were lots of old growth forest areas. We came home with seven bread bags full of Muggles! We had a big mushroom fry, but mom thought ahead of time. Mom cleaned up several batches and put them in 3 lb butter bowls with the lids full of salted water and put them in the freezer and save them for winter time feasts 😋🍄🍄🍄🍽️

I always loved hunting mushrooms when I was younger. Then got a very severe case of poison ivy when I was 12 and had to be hospitalized for two weeks. So I couldn’t hunt them anymore. Haven’t had any since my dad passed away 25 years ago. We would fry them in butter. Freeze lots of them for winter. I really miss that!!

My mouth is watering. I used to go mushroom hunting with my dad when I was a kid on our family farm in Indiana. Here it was usually late April/early May before we would find any. We would fix them just like you did.

If you put a ram pump in the creek you can pump water for the animals and vegetables for free. Where you find mushrooms you my find truffles .

This video brought back memories of going mushroom hunting with my Dad. One year when I was a little Dad found enough mushrooms to cover the kitchen table! I don’t think he ever found that many again. I haven’t had fried mushrooms in years! Enjoy them while you can.

I'm here in Frederick County Maryland and have been looking for weeks and haven't found any Morels yet. I think it's still to cold here at night. We've definitely had enough rain, but I think it's still been to cold. You found some good ones. Around here they love coming up around Tulip Poplar trees and by the creek. I usually find around 100 of them in my yard.

I always we used to pick mushrooms childhood memories.

Seasoned flour in a large ziplock bag. It's so much easier to clean up. Arby's Horsey sauce would be delicious on top of those fried mushrooms.

Have you considered growing some mushrooms and augmenting your collections? When frying the mushrooms, (1.) a pair of tongs would make it easier and help to prevent fingers from getting burned (2.) you can season the flour with various spices for an added kick. By the way, what is Jacobe doing. I haven't seen him in a long time.

Mushrooms. The best part of springtime and theres nothing better than a big ole plate of fried breaded Mushrooms and juicy eggs fried in the leftover grease of those fried mushrooms. Now thats what springtime is all about. Also the best way to hunt mushrooms? Get off the couch, hit the woods and find them. Always take a grandchild that loves them as much as you. Their low to the ground and can see them better. LOL

When I was a little girl I was picking mushrooms putting them on a Ritz cracker and eating them. When my mom saw what I was doing, trip to emergency room to get my stomach pumped. DeJay your hair looks so beautiful today.

I live up in washington and we get at least 10-15 minimum! quick tip... they like ferns! and cottonwoods! we get up to 30 every time we go and I love them! mom me my brother and sister come and we have a great time! we freeze them in water inside gallon zip-locks so we have them longer. I personaly like them beep fried, though. happy hunting!

We use to go mushroom hunting with our dad when I was a little kid. When I lived in the country house when I was older by myself there was and ash tree in my yard that the mushrooms grew all around . I would have a 5 gallon bucket full and my fence row was full of Polk that I would take in town for my mom and dad. They were so good. Oh how I love those memories of home. We have morel’s in West Virginia. When we were young my Grandmother would start asking everyone for Molly Moochers and if they were going hunting. I did not know that they were Morel’s for many years. So enjoy your Molly Moochers they look fabulous. Happy eating!

Find one sycamore tree get mushrooms ,and shake the heck out of them around tree. And let's see what happens next year.one or two,or did it work? It may be worth planting some seeds for future.

Deer runs by the MO River on the bluffs have always been great for Finding Morels! I think the mesh bag people need to go out and see who is spreading those Spores! Been hunting em for 45+ years!

We hunt mushrooms in north Iowa when the lilacs start to bloom. First we find the darker, smaller morels, then the blond color larger ones. It’s so much fun finding them. We cook ours differently, first roll cracker crumbs, use Ritz Crackers. Then mix an egg up really good. We use butter to fry ours in. Soak, clean and cut like you do. I put them on a paper towel to drain first. Then dip in egg, roll in cracker crumbs and fry in butter, slowly to a golden brown. I watch the butter so it doesn’t burn and change the butter after a couple of pans. That way the mushrooms don’t get too dark. They are crisp and oh so delicious. I know a lot of people use the flour, but we like the cracker crumbs best. Oh, do you have to watch out for the bad snakes this time of year? We see bull snakes sometimes and they climb trees, then I’m done. Once we saw a ball of gardener snakes. I didn’t have my camera, but saw a baby fawn lying in the grass. Wasn’t too old. Didn’t bother it, but it sure was cute. Glad you found some mushrooms. Still cold here in north Iowa.
