What gets me is how some of these actually sound about right. Like the Meowth and Persian ones are so apt. And even a lot of the ones that are super far off from any characterization the Pokémon have ever had still have some sort of logic to them. And as an American, that Pidgeotto one has aged like wine and is unironically brilliant satire. And I do find it interesting how he interpreted Psyduck as a platypus, which is def the more obscure (though not super obscure) animal, but then also still interpreted Golduck as a duck, but I can kinda see it from the general shape Psyduck has and it does have some of the right features since it’s a duck with duck features (the bill for instance).

As the matter of fact, in Soviet Union (I believe author of Ru PokeDex grew in Soviet Union) has always been a high regard for the classics of literature. Including foreign ones. Mowgli, Robinson Crusoe, and yes, including Cipollino. Moreover, many of them received cartoon and film adaptations, television and radio productions. In short, it was not difficult to learn about the conditional Cipollino, but it was a shame not to know.
