Moreton Bay Mackerel, they are HERE!

Well this day didn't quiet go as planed but in the end, it was a cracker day on the water. I have a soft spot for spotted mackerel as I would chase them on a family holiday down the coast growing up. So when I get on to some spotties, I brings back some good memories.
So, heading out of the Brisbane river I was meet with less an ideal conditions after recent rain. Next option was to head to Mud island while I waited for the wind to back off. It started slow there but had a blast with some good tailor and a couple bream in the shallows.
The wind stopped on clue and I headed to Harries for my revenge on a big bay snapper. I got him on but again, I pulled the hooks!
While fishing there, I spotted some surface activity and the lost snapper was soon forgotten as I got stuck in to some quality bay spotted mackerel.
After cleaning up the mess in the boat I cruised back on smooth seas as the northerly started to pick up for the afternoon.
What a cracker day!

Awesome video mate, what I wouldn’t give to have a day like that on the water. So good to see that fish can be caught consistently. It’s inspiration for us to keep going, lots to learn still. Thanks for the info on equipment you use too, it’s really helpful 👍

Nice one Pete! I saw you out at Harries on Friday. The sharks were unbeatable. At one stage I had 5 of them circling my boat… Good to see the spotties are back!

Thanks mate! Yeah, had the one come up not long after I lost the big snapper and couple on the mackerel. I’m over the sharks in the bay 🤦‍♂️.

Thanks Peter for another helpful video. You have convinced me to try for spotties again tomorrow morning. Those Amergari lures look great, but at $69 each, I am not sure I will be using them, probably stay with the Halco slugs, unless you have a more economic suggestion for a stickbait.

Cheers mate! My taste in music isn’t for everyone but glad it gets your approval 😀. I’m not a clip man to be honest. I mostly take any rings off the nose of a lure too. Prefer to tie directly to the lure.

Am also wondering why so many pulled hooks with the Amegari Flavie 110mm Stickbait Lure ??? Maybe upgrade the trebles to BKKs ?? Although at $45 /lure RRP I'd expect better performance than that. Cheers mate. Tackle box is a versus box available at most good tackle shops. The Amegari flavie comes with bkk treble already. I was pulling them because I had so much drag on the reel as I was trying to get them in before those 2 massive bulk sharks could eat them. I probably should have explained that in the video sorry.

Loving your videos lately! How long does it take to get a video out from filming to posting? Are your videos sometimes over a few sessions?

Cheers mate!! Think I’ve one video from two sessions and twice I’ve got 2 videos from one session haha. But vast majority is one video from one day fishing. Best part of a day to get footage off and edit the video. Probably more work than people realise. Plus the work involved in actually filming. Basic routine is fish for half a day, get footage off in the arvo, then edit for half a day on Saturday or Sunday, then post Sunday arvo.

Hard to know when to go/stay. I come out usually around the tide change to get both directions if I can but wind will always dictate what I do.

Probably. I do pull pretty hard to get fish in parks the sharks. I have moved the sound camera to just under my neck too….. I often have bruises on my hips from the but of the rod if i’m fishing around sharks.
