Hey Matt, I am new to brisbane and live around Cleveland, I popped in to a tackle shop recently asking for some soft plastics that I saw a guy (you) using on youtube, he knew you! I just want to say, keep up the good work on the channel mate you are doing well, your vids are entertaining and informative. They are great for people like me new to the area or others who haven't got a clue also me haha. Cheers mate.

If the fishing regs allowed I would have kept the last one was blood coming out of his gills probably was pretty tired after that 40-minute fight and I definitely would have replenished my muscle mass with some good fish meat

Bloody awesome mate! Where abouts do you launch your boat from man? I’ve always wanted to take my boat across to Moreton island but have always been worried is there much to look out for?
@bowlysfishing
@bowlysfishing 5 жыл бұрын
Stez Mate hey mate, I was out in the middle of Moreton bay in this video, not all the way over at Moreton island. It can get very rough out there so be careful and keep your eyes on the wind. If it’s under 10 knots you should be fine in even a small boat like mine. Over 10 knots and it can start to get sketchy. 15-20 knots and up, definitely would not recommend going out there.
@Steele-Robinson

I was so stupid to throw a whole whitting on a 6/0 circle hook conected to 12 pound line on a 3 to 5 kg peen rod with a 3000 size akooma reel at a tuna about the same as yours maybe a bit bigger, not sure as it was still in the water. 1 hour and 15 minutes i fought that tuna getting it along side twice and not fitting in the net and the third time i lost it. So yes it hurts your body so much and i had a mate with me so we could chase it down yet i was so buggered!!!!! Good work mate

Aww man, shark food :( might as well keep those ones hey, they struggle to survive 15 min fights & released boatside let alone 40 mins and time on the deck. Even if they swim off at first the lactic acid build up gets them in the end. Cool vid though! :)
@bowlysfishing
@bowlysfishing 4 жыл бұрын
Sam Steele long tails are extremely tough fish. They don’t have a swim bladder so they don’t suffer from barotrauma. They swim non stop, he wasn’t out of the water for long and I speared him back in and he kicked off strong, I’m sure he’s alright.
@Samsteele115
@Samsteele115 4 жыл бұрын
@@bowlysfishing yeah they are tough :) swim bladders and barotrauma obviously aren't an issue being pelagic fish. The issue is lactic acid build up that kills them. Its worse in mackerels, they don't really survive release often. Tunas will survive short fights and quick release more often than not, but not really after 15 mins. Ask a diver who has watched a release. They swim away then pretty much just die after a long battle. I did some longtail tagging for NSW DPI and the instructions were to tag fish with fight under 10 mins and minimal time on deck for the above reasons. It doesn't really matter cos the sharks would have been happy! Just something to keep in mind for future if accidentally caught on light gear, and might as well have some tuna steaks instead ;)

Sorry I'm American I don't even know what a meter is but I have caught eight foot long sturgeon it in a 10ft boat I have gone for good I called them canoe rides or sleigh rides with big fish 120 lb halibut 8 ft long version 3 ft thick I looked and thought 500 lb jewfish in Florida it's not the size of the fish it's the size of the fight in the fish pound for pound even though I've caught much bigger larger fish in my life still the best fight I think I have ever had was a 36 inch male summer-run steelhead honest small pool small real 6 pound test line 4 pound test leader in a 45-minute fight that steelhead tail walked pulling line 6 X and clear the water more times than I can count because I had to leave my drag light because of 4 lb test leader and fishing for trout not expecting a big steelhead I believe was a better fight then any fish I ever caught no matter how big or how much pain I felt in my joints and muscles or how tight or loose I had to run my drag that steelhead was one of the most awesome battles I've ever had and was an amazing meal that evening I have finished good morning into this country Coast to Coast south and North Easton West hope your line stays tight a real sings aloha and yes I fished around the Hawaiian Islands also from Alaska to California to Florida to the main thank God aloha

Lol good old America, piss of with your stupid trout that don't even pull drag. You've got tarpon in Florida? Good for you. Even your sacred bald eagle is just a glorified seagull hahahaha. You'd know what a metre is if your old ASF country got with the world and used the metric system FFS 😅

Actually I don't think you understand the proper mentality on the Cedar River I was fishing for trout 6 lb test line 4 lb test leader with a Nightcrawler hooked a 36 in summer run steelhead 45 minutes of a glorious fight that I will never forget and did not complain about to fight when it happened you have never complained about that experience one of the most glorious flights I've ever had on 4 lb test leader when you're enjoying the sport you enjoy I'm just saying quit complaining enjoy it instead love it instead appreciate it instead just saying
@bowlysfishing
@bowlysfishing 3 жыл бұрын
I just think you don’t understand what it’s like to fight a 10kg long tail tuna on a light BAIT CAST setup for that long. It’s pure pain. You aren’t going to be in agony. Fishing for trout with 4lb let alone any fish on 4lb because the pressure of locked drag, weight of fish and having all the weight on your wrist. There’s a very short period of enjoying it, it’s the first couple minutes and then when you finally land it. The comparison you’re making is completely irrelevant.
@jayrandall9668
@jayrandall9668 3 жыл бұрын
I was fishing for trout but I caught a steelhead on 4 lb test line 36 in Long what are the best fighting fish in the world pound-for-pound and what I understood of my time fishing all over the world thank God that the amount of pressure you feel is also contributed to the amount of drag you set in your real I've seen people horse in big fish with a tight drag and it doesn't look like much fun and the yes they catch their fish myself I'd rather use lighter gear lighter drag and play the fishes long as I can until they're tired till that fish can give me no more rather than horse it in and the bigger the fish the more of this is true that's just my opinion but either way your fishing because you enjoy fishing the pursuit of happiness your constitutional right as a as a US of a citizen just doesn't make any sense to me that you would be upset about how long a flight takes and complain about the very thing that you pursue to make you happy if the fish is pulling too hard loosen up the drag and enjoy the fight if you have a good hook in him it's not going to matter how hard you pull just keep a tight line and a smile on your face that's all I hope the next fish you catch drags you out to sea and you're smiling all the way aloha
