Did this hike today and the sights and sounds on it are beautiful. It is a bit muddy at this time, though, but that is a small downside. (Also, don't skip the view of the wildflower-covered hills and snow-covered mountains from Ortega Highway). Thank you as always for this guide!

Thanks Cris - great review! I’ve been curious about this one for a while (every time I do Sitton), so this really helps. Loved the 3D overview at the end. Keep up the great work!

Thank you 👍👍 Yea, it's a mellow one with no big peaks, and usually pretty empty. Nice to escape the crowds.

Wow!! What an incredible looking hike! I've never done this hike, although I did San Mateo Peak once and thought the area is insanely beautiful. Those potreros are great wildflower areas in spring. The willows and sycamores, as well as the poison-oak also provide some nice fall color in late autumn as well! The Elsinore Mountains and Santa Ana Mountains are truly a treasure, and they are one of my favorite ranges to hike and even just to visit and look around!

Yea, Morrell Canyon would probably be right up your alley, lots of fauna. And agree on the Santa Anas, the more I dig deeper there, the more I enjoy it. Getting away from the OHV routes and radio towers really opens up a beautiful and rugged world.

@@Hikingguy Very true! I am also more of a fan of the "lesser path traveled" hikes myself. In fact, many my hiking videos often focus on random, unnamed peaks I find on the topo maps!!

Nice Cris. When driving the Ortega to OC I always wondered where "that Trail by the Candy Store goes" And off the other end, I always wondered where that one went. Now I know. WOW talk about Rattle Snake and Mtn Lion Country!!! In all my hikes I have come across one Black Diamond and it was only 15" long, thin like a pencil. But I have seen a lot of tracks.

Ha, yea, it's pretty remote and rugged there. I haven't seen one rattlesnake this year yet, despite hundreds of hours out on the trails. Spotted a bobcat in San Gorgonio Wilderness yesterday but that's it. I probably smell too bad for most wildlife...

Thanks for stating at the beginning of the video exactly where this trail is located. It is so frustrating when the name of the state (or even country) is not made clear. Since I'm in California, this trail interests me.

Do you know if recreational shooting is prohibited in this wilderness?

ive seen some videos of this area where there is some pretty big pools with fish in them. do you happen to know where this is or which trail? it looks like you hike out of fisherman's camp?

I think you might be thinking of the Tenaja Trail from Fisherman's camp - hikingguy.com/hiking-trails/hiking-orange-county/tenaja-falls-trail-guide/ - I think the fish are long gone unfortunately, but I might be wrong.
