Just picked up the 4 Volt Skil Cordless Screwdriver. I picked it up because it was on sale, but also mainly because a subscriber recommended it.
Sharing its features & my thoughts... to help you decided if they are the right tool for you.

I bought this a couple years ago for installing things around the house. Before I bought my M12 combo, my only drill was a huge blue Ryobi that just did not fit into small spaces. I liked the form factor on this and had previously owned a couple electric Craftsman units and missed the convenience when doing assembly, etc. I realized as this video came up that I haven't seen mine in a month and now I'm in a panic and wishing I had bought one on the sale last week, too. LOL

Yeah… I saw it for $18 and thought why not. I do like it. I really like where the control switch is located and how it works.

I have one, no complaints. It lives in the kitchen and my wife actually likes to use it a lot more than a drill or regular screwdriver. For myself, since I bought the m12 installation driver i use that pretty much exclusively for any application i would use the skil for.

I’m the same if I’m doing very much work… the installation driver is my tool of choice. A screwdriver like this is good for those quick jobs where you know you won’t need much “umph” and you don’t want to carry much.

I'm a diy'er and help family and friends, have been trying to retool my tool pouch, for a better attempt at tool organization. I appreciate your reviews and thoughts on some of these tools that may not be powerful but make the jobs easier to do. Thank-you! I also like your note that is on your small tool pouch, it is very fitting. 😂

I just purchased the skil electric screwdriver 2 months ago and it works great. I’m a DIY and I use it for changing my door locks and installing fire alarm. It a great product to buy. Thank you.

I had never really used a powered screwdriver much until I got the Vessel... I've been missing out.

Love mine, only wish it came in a pistol grip. But it’s super easy to use and very convenient when I don’t want to pull the drill out.

Very nice review, I’m using it for basic maintenance work, the charge lasts all day for me. The voltage testers not there to replace a good meter, it’s just a quick check to make sure there’s no live wires when your starting the job. I found this most handy when installing ceiling fans. Especially installing the blades.

Using it daily for over 3 years as low voltage installer. Wall plates and even the sheet rock screws through caddy fasteners. It’s been licensed from hammerhead. The improvement skil made was the locking collar. Tried vessel, dremel, dewalt, and craftsman, but keep coming back to the skil. Just feels more natural than the fwd/rev buttons. Cons: battery level indicator, bit storage, and usb micro. Thx for the video!

As a HVAC service tech, something compact like this would be awesome. I love my M12 gen 2 fuel, but I rarely use it, and it adds decent weight to the bag, something like this or vessel might be cool for my bag load out.

I have been using my Vessel in my electrical pouch since I got it. For routine things like fixtures and receptacles I never get out a drill anymore.

This one is good for the price. I like my vessel better because it feels more like using a Screwdriver. Vessel did email me that they have a new electric screwdriver coming soon. I emailed them just to say how much I enjoyed their screwdrivers, they put that in their thank you reply.

There are a lot of these electric screwdrivers about now. The Bosch Go is quite popular here in the UK and retails around the same as the Vessel. This one looks to be a lot more robust than a lot of the silly brand ones on Amazon.

First Impression it's not bad... Especially for the $18 I got it for. It may not last long, but out of the box it's pretty nice.

I have this Skil tool and I remember having a bit of FOMO over the vessel brand because of the compact size and form factor. But it’s significantly cheaper than the vessel and I’m a homeowner who hates receptacles so it’s perfect for me. For $18 you’d be hard pressed to buy anything that can out value this, especially with Black Friday coming up

I do like how the forward/reverse works on the SKIL and the size isn’t bad. It was smaller than I expected it to be.

Personally I agree with your remark on the handle shape. I prefer my vessel ( use that thing a lot putting up and taking down lots of smoke detectors ). The shape of the skill reminds me a lot of the Bosch I own too. That Bosch feels to bulky to take to work. It’s fine around the house for small tasks but yea if your going to use it a lot then having something that feels like a screwdriver is in my opinion better. And as a electrician I trust my fluke non contact tester more.

The Vessel is pretty much the same as holding one of their screwdrivers. The NCV is ok... but it is going to be hard to distinguish wires if they are bunched together. My Fluke pretty well sniffs them out. 👍👍

Have this driver. Love it, only gripe is that when tightening screws the driver feels like it can break. I would like a setting that puts it in manual like a ratcheting screw driver to put me at ease. That said I haven’t encountered any issues or broken the tool.

Seen it on handsome or handy on youtube. I've used it on ac units for removing access panels, nut drivers, and any other situation where I don't need a lot of torque. I like twist action over push button less likely to accidentally bump. My coworker has dewalt 8 volt gyroscope screw driver that handle rotates 90° for driver vs inlinr screwdriver. It's nice but kinda finicky

I’ve been waiting to see the Dewalt in person. I don’t know anyone that has it, and none of my stores carry/display it. I’ve wanted to try it. I like this one. Not bad for the price.

@MORGANSMaintenance the dewalt is not as intuitive as you think. It's neat but expensive for what it is. He uses it for removing hard top on his jeep.

Around 2002- 2003 I had couple of Skill SDS drills and corded drill drivers. These were very cheap and pretty decent tools. After that Skill became feeble DYI brand, something way below green Bosh tools.

Other than their circular saws… I never knew they really made anything else. Here lately it seems they have been trying real hard to get into the cordless market. I see videos all the time.

@@MORGANSMaintenance I've just checked. Now Skill is Chinese, previously the brand was owned by Bosch and before that by Emerson Electric (they own Ridge Tool Company among many other brands).

The voltage checker is what sold me on this electric screwdriver. I was considering the DeWalt gyro electric screwdriver but the price and lack of the voltage feature turned me away. Although it’s a nice screwdriver.

I’ve looked at the Dewalt several times… I have still yet to see it in person though. I’ve always looked for a powered screwdriver that wasn’t overly big… if it’s very big I might as well use my M12

Does its no-contact sensor sense even when something's plugged in? Because that could be useful like you said "to get a general idea" if the area is hot.

Yeah it detects if something has voltage. So anything that is plugged in, or any wire that has voltage.

@@MORGANSMaintenance i like testing the tester before and after checking a socket to minimize chance of a false negative. but chances are the closest known-live socket to do this verification on is plugged. so this would solve that problem.

Was wondering if you attach a powerbank to it, will it work while its charging? That would mean way more power on the go

Great review. What is the country of origin? Would you please add that info on future reviews? We seldom can find this info when ordering online and it helps to know this when making buying decisions. Most retailers know this and hide this fact, especially when it’s made in ch!na, which is always a deal breaker for me. Thanks, and keep tooling it up!
